Helen when you’re in York you MUST visit the House of Trembling Madness on Stonegate - it’s the coolest little bar with more beers than you can shake a stick at. Bar upstairs, beer shop ground floor, spirit shop downstairs. Think it’s right up your street!
EDIT: oooh and there’s a new Viking pub in York too, it’s called Valhalla and you can get a horn of mead 👍 just off the Shambles market
I work in York and lived there for around 6 years, so I have lots of recommendations!
You'll want to check out House of Trembling Madness (so many amazing beers to buy) and Evil Eye (amazing cocktail bar) on Stonegate, Gibson's and Artful Dodger of Micklegate which are the more alternative bars. There's also a few cocktail and wine bars around the Stonegate area fairly close to the Minster, there's a few snickleways and cut-throughs to get to them. A little further out but still in the city walls is Brew York, brilliant brewery with a tap room and so many delicious beers.
The Museum Gardens are a great place to chill out and soak up some sun. There's also a couple of record shops on Gillygate (I think one of them is called Cactus Trading or something similar)
If you want food there are so many great local places: Rustique, Stonegate Yard, Blue Boar, The Go Down, Fiesta Latina, Lucia's Wine Bar and Grill.
If you're going to the Jorvik Centre, I would recommend booking tickets in advance as it's the summer holidays and the queues can regularly be an hour or so long to get in without booking. I donated my hair in early June, and I got a very similar haircut. The moment in the salon I loved it. Once I got out, I hated it. Just like you, I love the 70s hair styles, with the waves and the long hair. But suddenly I had to change that free flowing look and become a 70s rocker with a blunt haircut. I looked like I could belong in the ramones hahaha
At this point I’m still waiting for it to continue growing out, but I’ve grown to love it in a way. I style it now with a lot barrettes and hair pins, to hide the layers. At this point I look more like a 60s mod girl, but I’m glad for pushing myself to try new styles.
When you go to York find a place called evil eye lounge it looks like a shop from the front but as you go through to the back it has a cocktail bar and noodle bar it's amazing I know you will love it!! Xxx

Omg yes Helen! I'm a fellow Yorkie that also lives between there and Norwich. Please please do a meet up in York! Recommendations wise the house of trembling madness, the habit, dusk, the drawing board, stone roses bar, sutlers and the hop are all great bars. There's also loads of nice independent food places. For coffee spring espresso and coffee culture are fab coffee shops 😊 also just a warning that some people queue for hours to get into the Jorvik centre this time of year x

Spark York has recently opened which is formed of lots of shipping containers which have different street foods/drinks/shops/music, definitely has an insta vibe! Evil eye and House of Trembling madness are also cool bars to visit (Valhalla is a Viking inspired bar/restaurant that has recently opened too). Non-alcoholic wise there is an abundance of cute cafes but Fossgate Social is a particularly cosy one! The minster is obviously a beautiful visit but museum gardens are lovely to walk around along the river if the weather is good (there is also an ice cream boat which is always a winner)!☺️xxx

Id definitely recommend the viking bar Valhalla! Got some cool beers and they sell mead too and sharing food platters too, there's a viking festival in February too where you can attend a viking banquet and watch a huge battle reenactment too 😁

I was exactly the same with my hair, I had to have short layers in due to severe breakage and I hated it. It's starting to grow out now so it's not so bad, but 100% know where you're coming from!

100000% go to House of the Trembling Madness in York. Tons of Belgian beers, cheese boards and taxidermy. The ultimate place to chill. Also there's a bar called Pivni, which is like an old rickety house, sit upstairs on the chesterfield, put some tunes on the jukebox and have a beer. Enjoy! X

If you go to York you need to buy some fudge from one of the little shops ! It is amazing I go every year just for the fudge !

The Access workshop was brilliant by the way (I came to the Manchester one & was awks af) & I think it’s great for you to try different things career wise, we all need variety. I feel like alot of people are in a bit of a rut, some more than others - myself included. And regarding doing more things than just TH-cam; that's a sign of you moving forward in life. You don't need to stay still and try to crank out videos if you're not feeling it. Doing more stuff in life is good! We love you Helen and we're always here for you x
There is an ice cream shop in York called LICC and it is amazing, you have to go!! Also a lovely vegetarian/vegan restaurant called El Piano ❤️

I really feel your pain with the hair thing, a load of mine has just broken off from bleaching on top of bleach and I just don't feel like me- probably going to have to do the fringe thing too! Least we both know it will grow :) x
Helen I LOVE your hair like this!!! Don't feel self conscious - you rock it! You were very wise for having some time out, you seem a lot better for it. I love taking my dog for a long walk somewhere pretty listening to music when I feel a bit overwhelmed. Self love woo 😊😁❤
I always appreciate your realness. As for your hair, I would recommend Thatayla’s channel for some advice. She tried to go from box black to silver and it was an experience. She documented everything and had some really good advice got damaged/breaking hair.

Helen, I just love you! Wish I could come see you in York, I live in Teesside which is an hour away. Obviously evil eye lounge is the place for drinks and cocktails. For food, I can not recommend the go down enough, such a cute little restaurant which gorgeous service x

no one does the same thing all their life, it’s full of changes and you grow as a person with experiences as well, we all have burn out moments, I certainly do as it’s the summer holidays and I haven’t been productive or met with any friends at all, because I feel anxious about it. but I’m glad that you’ve got your flame back x

This has been me, for the past 2 years basically.
2 years of cutting it off, letting it fade out naturally and having god-awful roots for ages, split ends, weird uneven colors until I couldn't stand it, and slathering on hair masks like they would extend my life.
FINALLY it's healthy again.
I love your honesty when it comes to all sorts of different things, but especially the struggles of hair care and maintenance because it's so relatable.

I think this hair style is really fun but also mature and it does look rocky it will be good for a break for your hair though :) glad you talked about mental health, as a therapist, it's great to hear people talking about self care. And I'm with the bum bags too. I remember having one as a kid in the 90s but I didn't really have much to compare it to and now I so love it as an adult! I got a totally hippy looking one from a fair trade seller lol x

Helen, gahhhh I just adore watching you. I can definitely relate to the beginning of your video, I've felt like that in July too, I've been way to harsh on myself & I'm hoping to turn it around this month with less pressure. I'm itching to do something else too, I want to experience so much! I feel I want to give more to the world, If you ever want to do something together I feel we could put our minds together and create something epic. I'm in the same situation with my hair too, so much random breakage, growing it is a ball ache, and I'm itching to bleach it again but I feel I should lay off for a hot minute. Love you girl. Whenever I see you brush your hair on your vlogs I always comment saying it looks like you’re too harsh when brushing your hair and that’s a common way for breakage to happen with bleached hair, and from experience being super gentle when brushing and starting from the ends and working up to your roots really helps! My hair is bleached and is over 30inches long, just looking after it a little better will help loads, use hair oil daily and using a wide tooth comb instead of something harsh like a tangle teaser will help get some length back😘xxxx

Yay for talking about mental health, it's very important!! And your hair looks nice, but if you don't style it with heat for a few months and use lots of moisturizing products it will start to look and feel healthy again.
I found coconut oil really helped my hair, made it grow super fast too.

My brother literally talked to me about 3 Billboards, what a coincidence! I would probably cry the whole time but I heard the mother is like a kickass gal when it came to someone talking about a billboard? Anyways your hair looks great and I'm glad you got yourself out of a funk! I recently started a job that was a 9-5 job and only had it for 2 weeks because the guy I worked for worked from home so I was the only employee and he was such a jerk and I wasn't happy and ended up writing a letter when he wasn't in the office saying thanks for the opportunity but was quitting. It made me feel kind of like a failed adult haaaa, but I think as long as you're always searching for what feels fulfilling that's great! It's good to get new experiences and get the feelers out and take advantage of any opportunity! You go girl! It's great for your soul to see what other things you might wanna do!

Something I've tried with my hair is aveda...they basically test your scalp, hair strength, density and nourishment and then they give you the best product for your hair. I lost a lot of hair due to stress and I was devasted I went to them and my hair grew back became stronger in a month. I don't work for them or anything there products saved me
