    That is not where it was in the sun, it is where it was touching the ground, not getting light so the chlorophyll didn’t develop.. You want to get the one with the orange, or as close to orange, as possible. That means it spent longer in the field ripening.

    • @nicosfutureson4450
      @nicosfutureson4450 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That doesn't mean much either the higher brix comes from not being watered good sun exposure is also key but if they get rained on before they are harvested they won't be as sweet.

    • @nicosfutureson4450

    • @pairofdragonflywings
      @pairofdragonflywings 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All of the explanations for her tips make no sense. How does pollination cause scaring on a fruits surface? Pollination only needs to be successful once for a fruit to start developing. More pollination makes no difference in watermelon sweetness. Also sugar seeping out of a fruit would trigger pests and indicate rotting. If dark spots meant sugar was seeping out of the fruit, stay far away from it, that's a rotten fruit! Her tips may correlate with sweet watermelon but her explanations are bullshit.

  • @pancake3553
    @pancake3553 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The yellow patches are patches that didn't get any sunlight.to pick the perfect watermelon the smaller stem the better,the greener the better .the pattern also has has to be as balanced as possibly. If the watermelon is greener it means Its got more sunlight.

    • @hichizarai

      R u sure😅. Im so confuse now 😭

    • @pancake3553
      @pancake3553 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hichizarai I'm 100% sure ! think of it why would the sweeter part be yellow? And not green ? Yellow means it didn't get any sunlight and the green gets the most sunlight so it will be green.

    • @廖卫扬
      @廖卫扬 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hichizarai in theory it makes sense because the rate of photosynthesis would be low and lower chlorophyll which is used to trapped sunlight during photosynthesis. There’s no fool proof method, I’m pretty sure those cracks aren’t from pollination. They are most likely a result of scarring from being scratched against something in early growth but I take chem not bio so idk about the second one. I find the tapping method has been most effective and fun, but it’s an accumulation of experience as the the perfect balance between a hollow and ‘flat’ sound is different for every body

    I was in Safeway digging for *my* watermelon and employee came up and told me she didn't want me fondling her produce anymore and that due to the pandemic I had to buy all the melons I touched. 😅 The produce manager was literally working 15 yards away and he laughed with me and told me don't worry, get your watermelon.
    She started picking up watermelons that I'd presumably touched and throwing them on the floor, going "well we can't sell THIS because you touched it...we can't sell THIS, or THIS..."
    She had to be physically removed by security.

    I’m pretty sure the spot is where it was sitting on the ground… not from the sun. But still means sweeter melon.

      Sweet isn't always healthy...
      And beauty is on the inside in that sense means ..internal organs of humans..comparing to watermelon flesh...
      Nature is not telling you anything...you sense things as per your values
      There healthy fruits with beautiful outside and inside and good nutrients...
      Everything in nature is beautiful

    See that the tendril (the twig that connects to the creeper) is dried and tap the melon a few times for a sound of full echo not a hollow one and you have picked up a sweet one. All those scars and patches might not be on all watermelons.

    I have been on a watermelon kick for the last month. I've bought one a week for three weeks and every time it is SO SWEET. I also know what to look for and can't help eating so much as it tastes SO GOOD. Just be careful too much can cause indigestion, burping and more... First hand experience 🤪

      That is a good trick for knowing when it’s ripe! I believe these tips are geared more towards knowing how sweet the ripened watermelon is. Could be wrong because I’ve never picked a watermelon with these tips in mind.

      @@thejackrabbit77 I was taught that the more hollow, the juicier which I guess is typically sweeter? I don’t know, but I always come home with a good watermelon

    This is better than knocking. Knocking on a good watermelon gives this weird low resistance sound, the vibrations moving through the water, you want the watery ones. If it gives back a hard knock sound, no good. But since the pandemic touching stuff isn't cool so this is a better system. I feel like a criminal squeezing avocadoes and mangoes and stuff lol.

    Thank you for this ! I once lugged a heavy watermelon home from the supermarket only to find it was tasteless. I would have thought the least blemishes the better and the yellow patch would put me off but now I know better 😀

    The yellow area means this area was in the sun? I thought exacly this area is the part which toughed the soil. And because no sun can shine there its not good colored. I mean i still have this opinion. Because its how it works with Pumpkins and Zucchini also. 🤔 Somebody agree with me??
