poland is a beautiful country :) went there for 2wks , stayed in krakow and then warsaw, no....and all is not grey, in fact i find the countries in central europe very charming. have the sort of pre modernised feel to them, they aged pretty well , he missed out on the beautiful country side eh??? wat a pity :(
I heard Poland doesn't have good diesel. And our BMW said 0 kilometers, and we still did about 25 km to the gas station. 635d is great.. Love the idea.
I really don't get the "skint flint" mentality over diesels, the dirty tractor days are long over. Yes they don't sound as good as screaming V8 granted, but they just put modern petrol engines to shame. Even if you don't aim to drive for economy you get an excellent return.. Personally I love the sound of the turbo in my 1.9TDi whinding up.
It would be cheaper if bought "red diesel" costs 2.45-3 PLN per liter. In fact, Poland is a beautiful country, Germans and Russians have always wanted to have for themselves a piece of Polish ;) and they still want.
Well, neither do I. Thinking of Polish, I believe they'll just sweep aside this sorry attempt at joking to their account, coming from a Limey. Instances like these, when reverse prejudice comes handy, I suppose. ☺
Not sure why he drove through the entire city, in the wrong direction from the highway, etc. There are several petrol stations closer to the border, the one right on the highway inside Poland, then the Shell leading from the highway into town. Several others of course. And actually, the highway inside Poland to the Szczecin exit is in much better condition than the last 50kms in Germany just before the border where you can't drive even 80kph. Much of that was laid down pre-WWII.
Has your BMW not yet been stolen? There are also hundreds of BMWs and Mercs and Audis that are stolen every week in germany and brought to poland. It's an important fact, why shouldn't he mention it?
The Jag diesel is better, plus the Jag diesel can go quite far even after its told you that there is no fuel left in the tank. Although diesels always have enough fuel left after the fuel warning light comes on so when you fill up you don't have to bleed the injectors, so this gives you a range from 50-125 miles after the empty mark depending on the size of the tank.
No, It's still true.. Here in Germany all the Foreigners drive big fat Beemers, Audis, Mercs etc. but they just live of the social they get here.. mhm... how can they afford those cars, if they " just" get around 500 bucks ( for doing nothing) ??
pretty pointless going through all those countries and not showing any sights....crap version of top gear. Yeah they should have showed some gorgeous polish girls! mange tout!
Yes, but there are two different points. Cars are stolen here, too and of course they are being stolen in rome as well. But i was talking about cars being stolen and then brought to somewhere else - which is either to africa or to poland, from where they are transferred to some other country. It may be that there aren't actually that many cars being stolen directly IN Poland, but many, many stolen cars are definitly brought there.
Look at topgear, remember when jeremy tested the a6 and let it run completely empty, and the car still kept or, or the Eco race. Yet another topgear tipoff from fifth gear, sad, just sad.
Idiotic show, they could at least let the car run out of fuel ( for drama sake ) to really know whats the consumption is , but nooo, that would be dangerous , that would mean buying a gas canister , for fuck sake

Poland is gray? I've been to UK and it's rainy with all hoses nearly identical. They don't use paint, just leave the bricks so it looks like a giant WWII tank factory.
This is why people don’t watch fifth gear. He spoke about the specs (0-62, mpg and engine and turbo) and that’s it. Nothing about the BHP, cost, size or extras. Oh I do remember he said he liked giving it the beans for a second or two and the sat nav cost 2k. So how does the 635d feel. I have a 335d and thinking about the above
you polish people need to calm down, i'm american, so i'm used to the british car shows saying crap about us and coming to my country and portraying it negatively... from what i've gathered (from my polish friends) this was an accurate depiction of poland.
Haha, famous Polish rage. Come on folks, Poland is sunny and bright and happy sometimes but when it's grey and rainy it's depressingly grey and rainy. Especially in places like Szczecin suburbs (in case of problems with a pronunciation, it's something like: shtetsin). One issue about the clip though - there are at least two gas stations between the border and the city but, oh, well, in TV you've got to spice things up a little for the sake of entertainment :)
10 miles left on the range and he's stopped for petrol? Top Gear went through the whole journey for that opening ceremony, and remember the Audi A8 diesel? Went all the way till the meter says naught. Nice Review though
6:50 So you have to pay attention to traffic rules. AND OH FUCK ME, IS THAT PEOPLE CROSSING...AT A CROSSING??? Poland, you mad, mad country..... fifth gear, really?
+TheSpyChecker Yes actually why would you have crossings on a roundabout and tramlines? Roundabouts are the busiest/hardest types of junctions why would you make them harder to navigate than is necessary.
Hahaha.. This summer I was pounding away in my Z3 Coupé and I came across exactly the same thing in Finland. Two 22-metre combinations driving side by side motorway.. Doing 89km/h. Wtf is that all about..? Truckers used to be professionals and gentlemen of the road.

Im from Szczecin and unfortunately I have to agree partly. It is exactly like he said, really really bad impression when you cross the old border in Kolbaskowo. The nice motorway suddenly finishes and the landscape is not pleasant at all, grey and dodgy. Szczecin itself is mostly dark as well, there are beautiful street and places in it, but usually reminds Britons of Manchester...When it comes to petrol stations just checked the Google map and it shows at least 4 just behind the border!!! hmm..
