Local reporter for 20 years, and I have not once implied there was something negative in order to get a response. People like that make it harder for me to do my job. It really pisses me off.

Sounds like Emily will lie and screw over anyone she can for an article. Basically she is what’s wrong with journalism.
Some intrepid independent journalist, who wanted to do a story on her since she seems like a fascinating public figure, should contact her kids school l in order to get fuller picture of how parenting intersects with her role as esteemed investigative journalist. And if they really need to get a reply, they might want to lead with the insinuation or accusation of child abuse since it’s just a journalistic tactic to open the door to get to the truth. Unfortunately, she’s probably a childless wine aunt who writes worthless articles so that example doesn’t really work.
But if someone did that, it’s nice to know she would be very understanding.
