This bill is absolutely stupid and unnecessary. We've dealt with it for over 50 years in Michigan and there's no purpose for it other than to make the state money on bottles and cans that don't get returned. If the customer is required to sort the bottles or cans when they a r e returned they should pay the customer 15 cents per can or bottle for their labor. No excuse for businesses getting away with putting labor on their customers, the same with self-checkouts. Customers should get an automatic 50% discount for having to use self-checkouts. While businesses are saving money hiring Clerks add other help, the savings they reap do not Translate to customer savings.
