To be honest, the most frustrating parts of Homestuck to me were the parts with Jake in them. I felt like he was an outlier to every other character, that no matter what he did he could not get his head straight and do things right. Despite Dirk being obviously very clingy, Jake ran away at the responsibility to comfort him, and he absolutely peeved Jane off when he knew she liked him in order to avoid hurting her feelings while also coming to her for relationship problems. Not to mention dissing Roxy entirely. So many times i shook my computer, seething "idiot!" between my teeth. With Hiveswap's release, i felt my disdain growing to an insurmountable amount. I'd just about lost all my faith in Jake English, but with this video i think i have gained some perspective. I have to admit some valid points, and maybe, just maybe, you've changed my mind a little. : )
I know this is an old comment but Pages have shown to be pretty fickle individuals in regards to their personality and relationships. I mean Tavros is a prime example of this.
I don't think it's really an adequate explanation. The Baroness's formative influence can't be understood without way more exposition. But she herself is a slave. We can't form a complete picture of Jake's youth without also knowing what her orders were, and that's an abyss of speculation that would take hours to plumb.
I think Jake Harley is all of the things you mentioned but above all, I think he is lonely and i think that the one way he could have been not lonely was with his children, and he didnt take it because he was chasing ghosts, and that is the worst thing anyone could have done, keep him alone forever and he did it to himself
"in my dreams i am the star. its me "and THEN the big man comes for a little one on one" -Joey Claire, probably I fully agree with your idea of her motivation here. Joey is desperately starved for attention and approval and that desire comes through not so much in the passive-aggressive or dangerous high-risk behavior of our canonical Light girls, but in an absolute determination to get attention through being as good at what brings her joy as she can be. Ultimately she's starved for love that her dad isn't giving her and her mom can't, so...that's Joey. Anyway, on to Jake. I appreciate the fact that you managed to explain Homestuck's backstory (well, the terrestrial part of it) in a way that almost makes sense. "Hoarding is a common symptom of depression and anxiety" And you just explained the state of every single person's house in Homestuck and Hiveswap. Except Xefros, I guess, he seems more prone to compulsive behavior. La la man I didn't realize the colors thing was in book commentary, a-- Holy shit Calliope is a deer. *Calliope is a deer* *Joey is a deer* Holy shit my inner theorist just god-tiered. I'm going to go with the obvious answer to your question, by the way. Jake is large and contains multitudes, most of them obnoxious. But then over on the Homestuck side of this channel you have me convinced that he's the uncreated creator of the entire universe, Matter and Ideas, so there you go.
I tried! RE: Homestuck's backstory. It's wild because the story just keeps going, just covering Grandpa's step-mother means covering the histories of two other planets, with their own apocalypses. Homestuck really never stops. Also, how is Joey linked to deers? Come to think of it, its pretty interesting she picked up Dammek's deercat lusus...hm! Now I'm really curious.
In addition to the deercat, and the deer in the study you're linking to Calliope (and Calliope's connection to Alternia etc.), check out the Magical Animal Companion Heal Rescue posted in Joey's room. It describes Princess Shika, the deer-riding anthropomorphic deer girl heroine of an --anime-- Japanimation who is a healer and hates violence and loves magic and animals, not to mention dancing. Most of the description of her character or the story of the show you get from interacting with the poster either describes Joey or the story in Hiveswap (although Princess Shika sadly cannot tapdance. Soft hooves.) I took MACHR as a symbolic foreshadow for Joey and her journey specifically, in much the same way John foreshadows and symbolically connects his journey with references to Con Air and Armageddon. (Also the best interaction is Ballet Shoes + MACHR Poster, which references the infamous bowdlerized US dub of Sailor Moon which cast lesbian couple Uranus and Neptune as "cousins" and therefore implies Shika has a female love interest. I personally interpret Joey as gay as the Fourth of July so that was a nice bit of symbolic association as well.)
Oh haha, I LOVE the MACHR poster and all its interactions, but I didn't pick up on the deer thing for some reason! I was too focused on the healing/magic implications and what that said about Joey's Classpect, I guess. Sweet, sweet catch! I should note that at the root of the Calliope/Deer connection is, in my opinion, a link to the mythological figure of Sophia from Gnostic myth. At least one gnostic text describes her as wearing a "deer's skin", hence the connection. But Sophia is referenced by more characters than just Calliope! Dirk plays out the myth of Sophia, too--with AR as his version of Yaldabaoth. And Light players all seem linked to Sophia to some extent, which makes sense, as Sophia is the Light of wisdom imbued in humanity, enabling them to reach Enlightenment. All of which is to say that if Joey really is connected to deers as well, that makes sense, since she's at least linked to Light, and thus to Sophia. It's gonna be really interesting to see how this bit of symbolism develops, going forward. Thanks!
Outside of power within and influence on Sburb, Lord/Muse indicated an absolute control over and oneness with the Aspect itself. I'd hesitate to throw that around casually for someone not directly involved with playing Sburb, but it's entirely possible that's where it's going. I'd have to wait and see on the later acts for that one. About all I'm sure of is that Joey would be an Active class and "Joey Claire, Lord of Light" is a fun image but. Probably not what's happening. oD pretty much covers the Aspect question for Joey - it's unclear and about evenly split between "Light" symbolism and "Life" symbolism. Jude also has a bunch of Light symbolism so I'm wondering if they are just Lighty as a group or because they're reacting to the Rogue of Void or something.
I feel like the B1 Guardians are "people with much potential succumbing to flaws," in contrast to their B2 counterparts: "people with much flaws realizing their potential." At the very least, Jake fits this for sure. Every look we get at him, whether in Homestuck or in Hiveswap, just... oozes with perspective and depth. Makes him three-dimensional, you could say. Even when we see the things he does wrong, it all provides context in the end. Provides Hope.
I had a thought after oD's last Homestuck Explained video on the nature of the Alpha Timeline. Viewing things in publication order, the Post-Scratch Universe is essentially a world where a bunch of adults get to go back to being teenagers and overcome the personality flaws, circumstances, and choices that made them miserable and/or dead. Bro becomes Dirk and learns not to be such a toxic shithead to people he cares about. Mom becomes Roxy and gets to kick the bottle and connect with her kid(s) emotionally. Nanna becomes Jane and gets to live a full life with actual power over her own fate (more or less). And Grandpa becomes Jake and kind of does a combination of all the other three - he's no longer under the doom of bringing about the end of the world, he gets to *be with* the people he cares about instead of being lost in a fantasy world, and he eventually learns that that comes with the responsibility of treating his loved ones with respect and like. Talking to them. In a conversation. Where he listens and accepts their thoughts. Takes the whole comic, but he seems to get it. In all four of these cases, it means they get to live up to their fully realized potential and save the universe, and be Heroes. Yes, Heroes, not just Nobles.
I agree! Just look at Dirk, who in the beta kids' universe ended up as a terribly abusive guardian to Dave under the influence of Lord English through Cal, while he had friends in the alpha-universe (in which Cal also wasn't posessed yet) and turned out as someone who deeply cares about them. (I just really like his talk with Dave and the perspective it offers on the contrast between the two versions)
it really is crazy how many layers there are to homsetuck writing. genuinely some of the most in depth characters ive ever seen in fiction, and thats why i love it so much.
The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse: The Blue Rider of BAD MOVIES The Purple Rider of AWFUL PROSE The Red Rider of CLOSETED BISEXUALITY The Green Rider of FURRIES Seems legit.
nerdorama009 Depending on who you ask, those will lead to the end of the world... Furries and bad movies especially common as a source of deep sadness for some.
Wait a second. I wonder... Dave has a lot of dead shit and is constantly haunted by his own death through doomed timelines Jade grows plants, specifically pumpkins, which she loses Rose becomes infected with Horrorterrors John is introduced through his conflict with Dad and, more than any other character, has a lot of screen time devoted to him killing Underlings Death Famine Pestilence and War? Nah. Gotta be coincidence. BUT THE ALPHAS ON THE OTHER HAND Jake has an obsession with skulls Jane is the heiress of a baked goods company Dirk is a warrior and Roxy.... has no links to infection or disease. Wait. She programs a computer virus. Maybe?
@@karkatvantas9557 I was thinking it revolved around each of their traumas. Jade is connected to guns and ends up killing her grandfather with them, leading to her childhood of loneliness and isolation - War Dave had no food in his home and mentions a few times that he was often hungry as a child - Famine Rose is neglected by her mother who struggled with alcohol addiction. And addiction is a disease (best I've got honestly) - Pestilence And John's is the weakest but his father isn't technically his ancestor like the other kids are. (There isn't a young dad hanging out with Jane, Roxy and the alpha gang.) His version of Jane, his grandmother, is dead when the comic starts connecting him with Death. He's also the last one left alive before the retcon, having to watch everyone else in that timeline die
Maybe Jake Harley's confusing actions can be explained as him acting on his dormant hope powers. All of Jake's doll friends would be real from his point of view, sentient beings brought to life through the power of belief. Sadly, only he could interact with them, making him out to be a crazy old man.
I believe Joey might be an Heir because of her familiar Byers, but also because she invites manipulation of Light with her flashlight! Though her need for the spotlight may seem a little more of an Active class thing, I am sticking to Heir of Light. What do you think?
I think that's a solid possibility--she has a few references to wizard-themed dances (meaning that she's got the Archetype link I would expect to see), and I've seen at least one interesting instance of the verb "Change" in her text. She's got a strong appreciation for magic, but that parses about equally as a Fairy or Magician thing, so it can go either way. If she's an Heir, I suspect she's roleplaying a Maid in imitation of A. Claire. One of Joey's text boxes outright links her to Maids, she's prompted to "Make" some Light in another text box. If she's a Maid, I suspect she's roleplaying an Heir--again, in imitation of A. Claire. It's complicated because my suspicion is that A. Claire is basically a clone of Nanna, made by the Batterwitch more likely than not. If that turns out to be true, she'd be a Maid with a strong link to the role of the Heiress that Jane was also linked to. So Joey could understand and perceive her either way. I USED To feel really strongly that Joey is a Maid of Light, but as a result of all this now my view of her and A. Claire has gotten complex enough I can't quite tell anymore. Hence why I've dragged my feet so much on making a video for her! It seems like an evolving subject, so I'm trying to figure out how to present Joey's story in a way that is compelling while still accounting for all this ambiguity.
optimistic Duelist One pattern I’ve noticed is that all current Life Players were an heiress to something, though all of them of course were Crocker Brand heiresses because of the Batterwitch, each was a different form. Feferi was the heiress to Alternia. Meenah was the heiress to Beforus. And Jane was the heiress to CrockerCorp. It is most likely that any other Life Player may be an heiress as well, and vice versa.
I would rather think of jake as a "hero" in this video's case because even tho it seems otherwise a lot of times, Jake is not stupid. I think he left the portal there on purpose and hoped that Joey and Jude will find it in the attic. And what i think will go on in the next some acts is joey gathers a small group on alternia, jude does the same on earth and then they both escape the inpending doom on their worlds through SBURB but accidentally they end up in the same session. It would be a really cool story from mine half.
Wonderful video, as always! I think Jake Harley was a complicated man who's overwhelming loneliness led him to try and make everything better for those he loved, whether it was impossible or not, as in the end, Joey and Jude and all their troll buddies have ways to become gods and heroes, just as their counterparts in another universe, and that's probably the most noble thing he could do in spite of how he grew up and the threat of the end of the world weighing on his mind.
One of my biggest hopes for Hiveswap and Hauntswitch is in addition to learning more about him through the methods we've seen so far and are likely to see in the future, those being looking at his things at the Half-Harley Manor through Joey's perspective as an insider (as well as her strong opinions of him) and looking at those same things through Dammek's perspective as an outsider (we've yet to see how he will feel, but it will be very interesting when we do), is having Jake Harley himself show up in later acts and play a more direct role in the story. Personally, I believe that it's possible that in addition to the many other things that we know, what we can presume and what we don't know is going on in the background, Pa could be trying to find a way to take Jude and Joey to the peaceful new universe created at the end of Homestuck. The way I see it, him knowing how and when he's fated to die many years in advance and being a powerful Hopebound whose teenaged god-tier alternate self could become immune to First Guardian powers through the sheer strength of that hope power, he of all people would be most capable of saving the day if things REALLY went wrong for Joey on Alternia. Pa showing up out of the blue to save Joey and no selling Doc Scratch, who knows very well through his omnitiance that ensuring his master's creation (and everything else by extension) means he would have to let Pa live so that he could eventually return to Earth to raise Jade and later get shot to death, him stubbornly protecting Joey and her troll friends would mean Doc Scratch would have to let them go too. I do think Pa does in fact love Joey very much despite his neglect of her and his many flaws as a human being, and that he would want her and Jude to have bright futures not cut short by the oncoming apocalypse. He and Joey definitely have some issues they need to work out, and another hope I have is that they would at least have some time to do that and make up as best they can before he has to leave for good. Likewise on Jake English's side, if he has any issues with reconciling with the actions of his alternate self emotionally or otherwise after meeting Joey and Jude, he can most definitely rely on Dirk to help him with that thanks to his own experiences dealing with alternate selves. That we know for sure.
Oh, and one more thing: even if Pa can't tap into the power that would let him no sell Doc Scratch, by virtue of being a richly experienced adventurer and big game hunter, he would be able to find a way back to Joey no matter where he ends up. Also if Joey were to die somehow, Doc Scratch would effectively be betraying his master as it would motivate Pa to retaliate by refusing his fate and doom the timeline. And Ol' Cueballhead would also know that. It would be a Catch 22 situation, and Scratch would have no choice but to let them all go as it's his only option to get out of it.
I feel with Jake English knowing the truth on some subconscious level, that Jake Harley knew the truth too. I feel like this is why he gave the game to everyone so they could have Hope. He is One Who Serves after all, and it could be argued as it's a still a service to himself in an attempt to redeem his neglect of his children.
(I'm not crying, you're crying. What a tragic guy.) I've mentioned this before on your videos, but don't you think that some of this is Jake coming across as a Thief of Rage to his children? In his despair at being ultimately unable to prevent the apocalypse and being forced into a limited version of his life, he hoards artifacts reminiscent of the people who gave him his hope in an alternate universe where he is given the freedom to survive... And, in turn, these things inspire great irritation in and block Jade and Joey from their goals from time to time. What brought Jake his own personal hopefulness ultimately becomes misinterpreted by other people and they come to resent both the objects and Jake himself for it. This extends to people as well! There is a connection between how much Jake Harley bonded with and influenced the beta Roxy Lalonde, and how the very things he influences in her (encouraging her alcoholism, mysteriousness, long hours at the lab and away from her daughter, etc) caused Rose to become extremely resentful of her mom.
You say that the cherubs playing suburb without being paradox clones means that others can do the same. And while this is true, things do not look good for those that will do so. Unless Sburb has an alternate game for those that were born naturally, nonparadox clones have a 0% chance of success, or even progressing all that far in the game. Creating yourself is an essential part of the game, without it it would be missing a clue to the ultimate riddle. Now, I suppose that maybe the paradox clone process is not needed for all sessions, it could be that instead of it being something required for every session it is only required one for every planet it is played on, or, as a more grim possiblility, the only sessions that require it are ones bound by Lord English's existance. Or maybe both, that every paradox clone session is bound to help bring about an instance of Lord English, but natural born sessions are not needed for him to manifest. It is suggested that there are multiple instances of Lord English after all, and likely a great many ways for it to happen in a glitched session other than the rather disastrous Guardian spawned version.
The Cherub's sessions abnormalities are explicitly stated to occur because it's a 1-player session, though--not because of the game itself. It's the hubris of playing the game alone that forces the dead session, not playing without being born through the game's systems. Again, Fedorafreak is strongly implied to achieve God Tier, which is pretty much the final word the comic gives us on these "non-destined" Game sessions. If the game can't account for non-paradox clone players in a way that breaks the game for some reason...why would he have a quest bed? This is why that view doesn't quite add up to me. Given what I think the Ultimate Riddle is, I really don't think self-creation is a necessary avenue to reaching it, either. It's just the game's way of phrasing "reaching Enlightenment"--players can reach understanding of reality in any number of ways, both through specific game mechanics and not. This is part of what I think Rose's rejection of her Sburb-assigned planet quest is intended to convey.
optimistic Duelist I agree that it would make sense for natural born players to be able to win the game, but then why would some sessions be played by paradox clones and others not? And a session without paradox clones would as far as we know be unable to have the glitch that summons Lord English, and with the paradox clones lives being predestined to a great degree this implies that the alpha timeline, Lord English's timeline, has more sway over them.
The way I see it, the paradox clones exist so Sburb can ensure that at least A set of players will play it, in every universe. That's what Sburb cares about, since it means it'll have at least one chance to create another universe, and in sessions not glitched by LE I feel like a victory scenario is probably pretty likely. Sburb seems not to care much if the rest of the species on the planet plays-- but it leaves its technology out in the open for the full history of the planet, so any civilization that grows to play Sburb technically will have the option to notice the writing on the wall and save themselves, so to speak. But whether they do or not is up to the species in question. Alternia had the technology to understand Sburb, but were so consumed by intergalactic conquest they never noticed their doom & chance at salvation sitting right in their own planet. Under the Empress, Alpha Earth humans never had the chance, really. Pa makes the difference on Beta Earth, which is why that earth MIGHT have some survivors, and the other sessions don't.
Your avatar tells me you might be pleased to hear my elaborate headcanons for how Jake's Hope powers (combined with some fraymotifs from his friends probably) could absolutely let people on Earth C become furries, which is good because I will never stop talking about that ever. I hope episode 1 of the Homestuck Extended Universe (or whatever it is thats gonna happen with Viz media and Hussie's partnership) is the founding of a Furry Kingdom on Earth C. Thanks in advance, Hussie!!!
According to the Extended Zodiac, Dammek is a blood player. Could it be possible that Jake and Dammek became friends after Jake entered the Cherub Portal? It could explain why the portals are in each other's house. Its kinda a dumb theory of mine but oh well.
this was such a fun video!! the memories of playing the game and reading the webcomic flowing back to me! :') it really connected a couple of dots for me. great job!!
what if the deer is actually meant to be a reference to dammek? he seems to be based around the deer orion constellation. maybe it's foreshadowing that jake harley and dammek knew each other, as its kinda implied jake might've explored alternia? maybe they could've befriended each other! and the fact that the deer is wearing a fancy suit could be a reference to dammek's training to be a butler. them being friends would be an extra cool coincidence i think because post-scratch jake ended up making a really good friendship with tavros, another bronze blood troll...
optimistic Duelist Well I really don't know where to start, I don't know if what you've said about Grandpa Harley is confirmed to be true, but if not, I think it's the single best theory i've ever heard as it ties alot of loose ends about the game's origins, like the fact that he invented SkaiaNet, and that ome might have been obvious now that I think about it but i had never thought of it and was always wondering where it came from too! I'd love for this theory to be true because Grandpa Harley's story does not seem to end well in any way, and this really brings me the *hope* that his character gets a happy ending and he was actually a greatly misunderstood character, because I was actually shocked when I played Hiveswap and found out that he basically left Joey and possibly Jude kinda mentally unstable (kind of a thing that almost all the kids we know in this universe share in common). I've been reading Homestuck for the 9th time and I keep finding something new, and again, your thorough analysis on the characters' aspects really makes you figure out what they really are, which I find very interesting and always makes me see something new. And I seriously loved the foreshadowing at Jade's "House" about all the lights and finally each of the figures laying right next to Pa just kinda warmed my heart. Thank you for making this amazing series, you definitely got a new patron! Edit: Sorry for the long comment
Aw jeez, thanks so much! Figuring out stuff about Grandpa was one of the things that got me really serious about bringing this to youtube, so it feels great to have it pay off like this. Thanks a ton! ^^
Perhaps Jake was not only interested in saving the people of Earth but also the inhabitants of Alternia, he could have left the portal for Joey/Jude so they could go and try to do their thing. But we don't know that yet.
Well, I Agree With All The Above. After All, Hope Can Be All The Things You Want ...And Sometimes Can Lead To Delusions That People Will Put Emphasis On To The Point Of Believing It True. Take For Example Eridan The Prince Of Hope, As His Role States He Could Destroy Hope Or Destroy With Hope, He Did So As He Believed. Then Cronus As The Bard Of Hope Passive In Destruction Bringing His Ruin and Others Through What He Believed He Was Destined, For Hope Is Belief and Faith In Things or People. It Can bring Great Happiness For Some Or Plague Horror And Misfortune On Others. Jake As The Page Of Hope Was Self Serving In His Tendencies, But Was Able To Bring Hope To Others. After All, It Depends On The Perspective You Have, Both On Hope And People.
You sure may think a Hero of the ultimate aspect that's also defined by having limitless potential has visions from a timeline that haven't actually happened yet, at least from the standpoint of casuality of events, given how the session haven't been scratched yet Well, you did say that jake was very powerful and also very paradoxicaly-subconsciously aware of the narrative around him? I mean, weren't one of the Signless' whole schticks (as a seer of blood) his visions about the beforus society pre-scratch?
I personally have a theory that she would be a knight of (aspect that I don't know) because she has like struggles and stuff and then she goes to Alternia and becomes knight of (aspect filler)
I think jake didnt just give humans hope, but also trolls, at least, alternian trolls tho if he was aware of it, he was almost sertainly not aware of the full extenct to wich he did
Something you missed is that the beta version of him actually made it into the medium and seemingly came back out to a time before the kids were entering.
honestly my feelings towards jake is mixed idk man I do like the addition of making him complicated like yea we see him do good stuff in homestuck tho he did have his moments of bad but in hiveswap he literally just left his kids like????? I feel bad for them and him literally nearly all of the hiveswap and homestuck characters deserve a break from all the bs going on lmao
This is correct! Hiveswap is planned to be part of a set--Hauntswitch is supposed to eventually be its own game with its own story, focused on Jude and Dammek.
Did you know hope is said to be as dangerous if not more than despair. Jake may have given hoe to the persons on earth by distributing the Sburb copy BUT what then, they were doomed from the start unless the universe of course is saying that they have a purpose other than creating a new Universe. I can see slowing down lord english as one of those rules but as I say give hope may still lead to their more grizzly Doom.
I'm going to bet it's because that would take too long of a digression into Homestuck's plot for a Hiveswap video relative to the amount of insight it would give. Same reason he didn't explain Jake's Stepmom's origins. They're relevant, but we'd be here all day.
hmm I remember that there was two frogs temples on the troll planet could someone make another sgrub copies or did each temple have half of the codes??
Game and Time Just my opinion, but I think it has to do with the glitch the beforan trolls had in their session. The first group of trolls where created ectobiologicaly, but not by themselves, as in their session there where no ectobiology equipment of any type anywhere. The beforan trolls where created by Karkat and, just as happened with the alpha kids, each troll was sended to two planets at the same time. In addition, Aranea claims that Meenah found their version of the game (fully programmed and ready to play) in the moon, not in a temple. That's why I think that Alternia has two temples because one of them is supposed to be Beforus's temple. Sollux coded Sgrub using Aradia's temple code and then, due to time shenanigans not showed in the comic, a computer with the game instaled traveled to Beforus's moon. PS: The firs paragraph is also the explanation I have to claim that Beforus has no first guardian.
no the alpha and the beta, the alpha is for jane roxy jake and dirk which is the scratched session/void session, and the sburb beta was john dave rose and jade. so, and rose said like alot of time they were beta testing and dirk said they were alpha testing. sburb beta was made by skaia net, and sburb alpha was made by crocker corp.
I could have literally sworn the words "Global launch day" were said at some point, but upon double checking it seems I was wrong! So maybe it wasn't exactly world wide? My bad, if that turns out to be really inaccurate, but it seems fairly ambiguous to me. The implication is that a ton of people got to play regardless, including Dad's friend fedorafreak, an otherwise boring and normal businessman. So I think the overall point about Pa having potentially saved tons of people stands, either way.
optimistic Duelist even if it did get to other people they would probably not be able to figure it out and die as their not destined to play but anything’s possible
I mean Tavros is a prime example of this.
so.... what do you think of homestuck2 jake? then
I love how we need ten minutes to explain the history of *ONE* character
I don't think it's really an adequate explanation. The Baroness's formative influence can't be understood without way more exposition. But she herself is a slave. I think Jake Harley is all of the things you mentioned but above all, I think he is lonely and i think that the one way he could have been not lonely was with his children, and he didnt take it because he was chasing ghosts, and that is the worst thing anyone could have done, keep him alone forever and he did it to himself
"in my dreams i am the star. its me
"and THEN the big man comes for a little one on one"
-Joey Claire, probably
I fully agree with your idea of her motivation here.
"Hoarding is a common symptom of depression and anxiety"
And you just explained the state of every single person's house in Homestuck and Hiveswap. Except Xefros, I guess, he seems more prone to compulsive behavior.
La la man I didn't realize the colors thing was in book commentary, a--
Holy shit Calliope is a deer.
*Calliope is a deer*
*Joey is a deer*
Holy shit my inner theorist just god-tiered.
Thanks!
So basically both joey and callie are related to deers and were "created" by the guy whos basilcally god... Joey as a muse/lord of light?
Wait a second, four kids end the world... four horsemen... dangit hussie.
The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse:
The Blue Rider of BAD MOVIES
The Purple Rider of AWFUL PROSE
The Red Rider of CLOSETED BISEXUALITY
The Green Rider of FURRIES
Seems legit.
nerdorama009 Depending on who you ask, those will lead to the end of the world... Furries and bad movies especially common as a source of deep sadness for some.
Wait a second. I wonder...
Dave has a lot of dead shit and is constantly haunted by his own death through doomed timelines
Jade grows plants, specifically pumpkins, which she loses
Rose becomes infected with Horrorterrors
John is introduced through his conflict with Dad and, more than any other character, has a lot of screen time devoted to him killing Underlings
Death
Famine
Pestilence
and War?
Nah. Gotta be coincidence. BUT THE ALPHAS ON THE OTHER HAND
Jake has an obsession with skulls
Jane is the heiress of a baked goods company
Dirk is a warrior
and Roxy.... has no links to infection or disease. Wait. She programs a computer virus.
Maybe?
@@karkatvantas9557 I was thinking it revolved around each of their traumas.
Jade is connected to guns and ends up killing her grandfather with them, leading to her childhood of loneliness and isolation - War
Dave had no food in his home and mentions a few times that he was often hungry as a child - Famine
Rose is neglected by her mother who struggled with alcohol addiction. And addiction is a disease (best I've got honestly) - Pestilence
And John's is the weakest but his father isn't technically his ancestor like the other kids are.
Then maybe by comparing myself to her, I can see if I qualify as heir of void, the opposite aspect.
The heir of void? You think she's Equius?
I still think she is an Heir of Life. The opposite would be a Witch of Void.
That will never happen as Hiveswap will never be finished
Cool and new lore when?
I feel like Jake is all of those things to one degree or another. He makes me kinda sad
Edit: 12:13 timestamp
I feel with Jake English knowing the truth on some subconscious level, that Jake Harley knew the truth too. I feel like this is why he gave the game to everyone so they could have Hope. He is One Who Serves after all, and it could be argued as it's a still a service to himself in an attempt to redeem his neglect of his children.
(I'm not crying, you're crying. What a tragic guy.)
I've mentioned this before on your videos, but don't you think that some of this is Jake coming across as a Thief of Rage to his children?
BTW the reason it wouldn't look good for them is that the cherubs session was not by any means normal, or successful.
This is amazing. I love your videos. You have provided a lot of insight for me when dealing with the story as a whole.
Another radical job duely boi.i had various thoughts that i couldn't properly explain so im gonna share this video.
I really appreciate these videos you make
"colonel" is pronounced like "kernel"
My god tier is Page of Hope...
Grandfather Of Furries has basically always been Jake's destiny, hasn't it.
Furries...yeah, probably no
Wait what
Jake's powers could theoretically make furries a thing.
Wat

2:04 "call-oh-nel"
*stairs violently at you*
I don’t like Jake Harley despite Jake English being my favorite character but GOD DAMN is he such an interesting character
:') it really connected a couple of dots for me. great job!!
randomly came back to this character and GOD this is such a good video.
This actually made me cry.
These videos are great and it's nice to see homestuck and hiveswap videos beeing made even after homestuck's prime.
your video quality has really improved since I first subbed, love to see the growth
what if the deer is actually meant to be a reference to dammek? he seems to be based around the deer orion constellation. maybe it's foreshadowing that jake harley and dammek knew each other, as its kinda implied jake might've explored alternia? maybe they could've befriended each other! and the fact that the deer is wearing a fancy suit could be a reference to dammek's training to be a butler. them being friends would be an extra cool coincidence i think because post-scratch jake ended up making a really good friendship with tavros, another bronze blood troll...
My goodness this is the best episode, so much stuff makes sense now!
:D Thank you! I'd love to know what it cleared up for you, if you ever feel like mentioning ^^
optimistic Duelist
Well I really don't know where to start, I don't know if what you've said about Grandpa Harley is confirmed to be true, but if not, I think it's the single best theory i've ever heard as it ties alot of loose ends about the game's origins, like the fact that he invented SkaiaNet, and that ome might have been obvious now that I think about it but i had never thought of it and was always wondering where it came from too!
this was a wild ride, keep up the good content my dude
(Possibly) welcome to the light team
and his denizen statue
I watched this again to feel better about yesterday
Perhaps Jake was not only interested in saving the people of Earth but also the inhabitants of Alternia, he could have left the portal for Joey/Jude so they could go and try to do their thing. But we don't know that yet.
*L E T ' S F U C K I N D O T H I S*
Great video man!
THE INTROS JUST KEEP EVOLVING
damn that was so much information in a short timeframe i had to watch it twice
You sure may think a Hero of the ultimate aspect that's also defined by having limitless potential has visions from a timeline that haven't actually happened yet, at least from the standpoint of casuality of events, given how the session haven't been scratched yet
Well, you did say that jake was very powerful and also very paradoxicaly-subconsciously aware of the narrative around him?
I mean, weren't one of the Signless' whole schticks (as a seer of blood) his visions about the beforus society pre-scratch?
i really like the way you pronounce "colonel" at 2:05
keepin it real
holy shit why are you so good.
a deer in a suit, who holds another story, to be told another time...
"A dear in a suit"
Me: hahaha hey guys look how hard i can cry
I personally have a theory that she would be a knight of (aspect that I don't know) because she has like struggles and stuff and then she goes to Alternia and becomes knight of (aspect filler)
oh god..thats all pretty much grimm and sad :c
I think jake didnt just give humans hope, but also trolls, at least, alternian trolls
tho if he was aware of it, he was almost sertainly not aware of the full extenct to wich he did
11:43 maybe planing that far ahead is a way of honoring Dirk.
3:24 Jake is Dr. Wondertainment confirmed. =D
You're making me cry gdi
Also what, Hauntswitch?????
Hauntswitch is the eventual sequel to Hiveswap, which follows Dammek and Jude on Earth.
Something you missed is that the beta version of him actually made it into the medium and seemingly came back out to a time before the kids were entering.
Weird how Sassacre's dog's name was Halley and he was hit by a meteor.
Like, yknow, Halley's comet, or something.
Damn I can usually follow these but you just mindfucked me
Didn't watch this video but here comes the F. for Cursed Histories.
And now bro and prescratch Jake are two horrible guardians so JOHN'S DAD SHOULD'VE LIVED
Um don't forget Rose's alcoholic and neglectful Mom.
Karkat Vantas she was atleast raising her in a good house
Well yes. On the sliding scale of awful, she's third out of four. But she was still a bad guardian.
Karkat Vantas yep to drive my point home DAD EGBERT SHOULDN'T HAVE DIED
Did... did he mispronounce "Colonel" as "Kah-luh-nell"?
Wrow Famly Shenanegins
Look, this video is great and all but it’s so filled with homestuck spoilers and am still act 2. maybe I will continue watching this on a later date
I can't see Joey in any way other than Maid of Light.
Holy shit this video is good > u
i love your intro, though i dont seem to find it on youtube or soundcloud xd any help?
honestly my feelings towards jake is
mixed
idk man
I do like the addition of making him complicated like yea we see him do good stuff in homestuck tho he did have his moments of bad but in hiveswap he literally just left his kids
like?????
I feel bad for them and him literally nearly all of the hiveswap and homestuck characters deserve a break from all the bs going on lmao
Also weren't young jake and jade... Pen pals??? I'm still confused about that part.
Hauntswitch? What's that?
Hauntswitch is basically the counterpart to Hiveswap - While Hiveswap focuses on Joey and Alternia, Hauntswitch focuses on Dammek and Earth.
This is correct! Hiveswap is planned to be part of a set--Hauntswitch is supposed to eventually be its own game with its own story, focused on Jude and Dammek.
optimistic Duelist and it's seperate from Hiveswap Act 2?
Yep! Hiveswap is going to be four acts, once it's finished. Hauntswitch should be its own four acts as well.
Nice video, Mage! Just a heads-up, the Patreon link in the description is broken!
Thanks for the heads up! Much appreciated.
For your question at the end I would have to say all of the above.
Hearing Caw-oh-nel and Kernel in the same timeframe kind of bothers me
I justed realized that my Grandparents' dog is named Harley...
Wait did he leave a copy of sburb for joey and jude?
10:04 I SEE YOU TYPHEUS!!!
I noticed a Typheus!
Roxy next please ;^;
So what I'm getting at is Nanna Egbert was the only guardian with a good relationship with her child 😂
DistrictIvory Pretty much
*callonell sassacre*
this video is wow
Why havent you talked about the fact that he was traveling through the medium probably through the frog temple transportilizers?
I'm going to bet it's because that would take too long of a digression into Homestuck's plot for a Hiveswap video relative to the amount of insight it would give. Same reason he didn't explain Jake's Stepmom's origins. They're relevant, but we'd be here all day.
I wonder why everything linked to alternia and lord english are in this timeline
Poor Jake
hmm I remember that there was two frogs temples on the troll planet could someone make another sgrub copies or did each temple have half of the codes??
Each temple had half the code in that particular case. Aradia gatherered all the data and had Sollux program it.
What's haunt switch? >-> AND IM page of space
It's the second game of the Hiveswap storyline but it focuses on Dammek and Jude on Earth
*Desperately avoids naming Dirk.
How...how did hussie plan this
2:08
KOLONEL
I think he's like Tony Stark
Lmao his speech impediment is being British
What the hell is haunt switch 12:07
5:53 it was a beta, so i dont remember it being a world wide release??
Audamix no the beta is in the scratch universe
no the alpha and the beta, the alpha is for jane roxy jake and dirk which is the scratched session/void session, and the sburb beta was john dave rose and jade. so, and rose said like alot of time they were beta testing and dirk said they were alpha testing. sburb beta was made by skaia net, and sburb alpha was made by crocker corp.
Audamix Oof ok
I could have literally sworn the words "Global launch day" were said at some point, but upon double checking it seems I was wrong! So maybe it wasn't exactly world wide? My bad, if that turns out to be really inaccurate, but it seems fairly ambiguous to me.
The implication is that a ton of people got to play regardless, including Dad's friend fedorafreak, an otherwise boring and normal businessman. So I think the overall point about Pa having potentially saved tons of people stands, either way.
optimistic Duelist even if it did get to other people they would probably not be able to figure it out and die as their not destined to play but anything’s possible
isnt colonal pronounced kernal?
HUSSSSSSSSIIIIIIEEEEEE
EU AMO SEUS VIDEOS
Eles são ótimos, els também tem um Blog, o link está na descrição.
Dá uma olhada lá, tem um material muito bom
what the hell is hauntswitch
The eventual sequel to Hiveswap, which follows Dammek and Jude on Earth.
I had a dream that I had a dream
Mind = blown :0
why do you pronounce colonel like that
psa: colonel is pronounced "kernel"
"Kah-leh-nel."
It's...pronounced "kernel".
