Keep Yourself Alive is the first track of their debut album released in 1973. Their first live performance was on June 27, 1970 in England at Truro City Hall, while still billed as the group Smile. Roger's mother got them the gig.

Father to son, son and daughter, ogre battle, seven seas of rhye, stone cold crazy and keep yourself alive are my favourites from live at the rainbow. The Geeeeetar is 🔥
This is a hot song from their very first album. The whole band kills this song every time. The first Queen gig: Truro City Hall, June 27, 1970. First record released: EMI Records released "Keep Yourself Alive" as a single in the United Kingdom on 6 July 1973, a week before Queen hit the stores.
Yes, and this first gig had them mistakenly billed as “Smile”, the former band of Brian, Roger, and Tim Staffell (who left the band). KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE was written by Brian on his Acoustic Guitar while Queen was busy with practices at Imperial College. In 1971 a Demo version was recorded at DeLane Studios with Brian playing Acoustic Guitar. (Not released). As for your other question what instruments they play: Freddie plays piano, harpsicord, and guitar. Brian plays guitar(electric and acoustic), piano, keyboard, ukulele, and harp (he played harp on the studio version of LOVE OF MY LIFE). He also plays “trumpet” sound with his mouth! (React to DREAMER’S BALL Live in Paris). John plays, bass guitar, guitar, piano, and the upright bass (as seen in Official Video Who Wants to Live Forever). Roger plays drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, synthesizer, and ukulele (his first instrument). There may be more, but that’s all I know of. 😊
Awesome reaction! I love this rendition! I completely agree-Queen make everything better, they have something for everyone and transcend everything! Without a doubt, the effect their music has on the soul and on crowds is nothing short of magic!
Brian and Roger never came on stage drunk but Deacy had a cocktail bar set up behind Freddie’s piano with wine, beer, soft drinks, tequila, nuts and M&Ms and would be quite tipsy by the end of the concert. Freddie didn’t come on stage drunk....often....there was one notable exception. Freddie and Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet caught up before a concert in New Zealand and polished off an entire bottle of Stolichnaya vodka together and when that was finished they started on the port. Freddie insisted Tony come on stage during the concert and they tried to sing Jailhouse Rock, but couldn’t remember the words so they made them up. Freddie said “Hadley you bastard, I’m pissed!” Brian said when Freddie was in that state the band had to be on their toes, because he’d sing songs out of order from the set list, forget the lyrics and they had no idea what he was going to do next. I think that’s a hilarious story
Great reaction my friend. The live version at Montreal 1981 is a really good version too. I am loving all of the QUEEN that you are doing. I got one that you will love because of all of the harmonizing between FREDDIE, ROGER and BRIAN. Its called DOING ALL RIGHT. The official lyric video will give you the best vocals. Thank you and have a nice day. Take care your friend, QUEEN BEE.
Fun fact: Roger first learned to play guitar as a boy and was very good at it; but then he discovered the drums, learned to play them and the rest, as they say, is history.

It's the first song I ever heard by them, my introduction to Queen, and I was instantly a fan-- and have only grown to love them more and more ever since. Thanks for reacting to it-- a lot of other reactors are missing this gem.
This was their first ever release (in the summer of 1973), I mean this song. They released this as a single before the debut album was released in 13rd June 1973. But They were performing a lot of songs from their first and their second album in their gigs even back in 1970.
They all had a "little drink" now and then. Deaky had a small bar set up out of sight. When you see him disappear for a few seconds, he's having some refreshments. lol Brian and Roger said, "By the time the concert was about over, he was well on his way to being drunk." lol Never missed a note though!
@@janematthews3394 I didn't mention a date or time. My point, none of them were teetotalers and they enjoyed a drink now and then. They also could be real partyers, especially Roger and Freddie. Two of them had problems. John Deacon got married to Veronica in 1975. They have six children and they are still together. That is brilliant. Married for 46 years.👏🏻💐🤩

I wish I had gone to more shows but did see Brian on his solo show after Freddie passed.
Kind of hard to say their very first performance. But I believe their first performance was probably either at Ealing University or the London School of Science & Technology as all 4 were still studying at University. That would have been late 1969 and early 1970.
Tim was still in Smile in 1970. The last Smile show was in May 1970. During 1969-1970 Freddie was in different bands himself. Also, John didn't join them until 1971 and Freddie graduated from University in 1969.

So in 1973 they released the single “Keep yourself alive”. It didn’t get much radio play at all. So Queen didn’t “breakthru” 😁 until 1974 with the song from Queen II, “Seven seas of rhye” And Queens first “formal gig” was June 27th 1970.
