Finally we met and got the chance to test ride with KTM EXC TPI 2018 . First of all, many thanks to Spormoto KTM Turkey for their great hospitality!
After watching videos and reading articles about it, we got the chance to ride it, so the late introduction of the new EXC TPI (Fuel-injected) 2 Stroke motor became an advantage! The objectivity of the gossips and comments we hear were easy to consider. We realized there is more than what we hear. Our aim is to show you what you will feel when your tires touch the dirt, but not only the "desktop" technology review written on paper! And we hope that you admit it after watching our videos!
Especially given @4:08 and @5:28 two facts are very important!
New EXC TPI and EXC carburetor shouldn't be considered as same machines with some changes. For us EXC TPI is a totally different experience with big advantages (but with a slightly heart break for lovers of aggressive 2 stroke tough.)
A last word; It will be a great advantage for extreme enduro and hard enduro!

    THE 2-STROKE RENAISSANCE
Even though KTM only introduced a brand new EXC generation in 2017, the challenges never stop. This means research and development also never cease at the Austrian headquarters, and so in 2018, KTM is once again set to deliver the next revolutionary game-changer in competition offroad sports: the world’s first 2-stroke, offroad competition bikes with serial, electronic fuel injection.
Combining top performance and outstanding rideability, the KTM EXC TPI models with 250 and 300 cc
of displacement will be distinguished by the lowest weight in their class, intuitive handling and a unique style, along with the awesome READY TO RACE performance expected of any genuine KTM race bike.
“TPI” stands for “transfer port injection”, and the groundbreaking new 2-stroke represents another major step forward on a global scale, once again demonstrating KTM’s unrelenting and continuous commitment to 2-stroke technology as such. The benefits to owners are clear: besides huge improve- ments in fuel efficiency and clean exhaust emissions, the electronics do away with the need for re- jetting, no matter the elevation of the race venue, prevailing weather conditions and the like. Also, engine lubrication on the TPI models is automatic from a separate oil tank and electronically controlled oil pump, obviating the use of pre-mixed fuel-oil mixture.
In short: TPI means a new dimension of READY TO RACE DNA in every detail. And more than that: TPI
is the living proof that KTM’s ongoing commitment to offroad racing in general will never stop, and its dedication to 2-stroke technology in particular is alive and well. In fact, the state of the art R&D depart- ment in Mattighofen is expanding, while the new motorsport division demonstrates KTM’s growth and continuing investment.
Because offroad racing is nothing less than the very foundation of the company.
    THE 2-STROKE PARADIGM SHIFT
The new KTM 250 and 300 cc Enduro models fitted with the revolutionary TPI serial fuel injection are high-end, READY TO RACE products, which set new standards in the 2-stroke segment. TPI stands for „transfer port injection”; a global-first, groundbreaking technology for 2-stroke racing engines that de- livers a previously unattainable combination of top performance and outstanding rideability. Lubrication is taken care of by an automatic system with a separate oil tank and electronically controlled oil pump instead of using premix.
In addition, the TPI bikes benefit from the complete set of KTM Enduro racing features such as an E-starter powered by super-lightweight lithium ion batteries, sublime Brembo brakes, self-adjusting hydraulic clutches, KTM ‘No Dirt’ footpegs and gear shift levers, KTM toolless air filter boxes, quick- release fuel lines, polished hubs, WP Xplor 48 split forks, WP Xplor PDS shock absorbers and of course typical KTM precision-welded chromoly frames. This means they are not only among the lightest bikes in their respective classes, but they also deliver intuitive handling, while the exclusive bodywork sets them apart with a unique style.

How does the power compare to normal exc bikes?

There is no "automatic altitude compensation". The manual itself states you need to turn the bike off for at least five seconds to re calibrate.

    good points and bad points.
the ktm exc 300 tpi 2018 feels awesome on the hair and hounds like going, or standard enduro.
very smooth power delivery and easy to ride.
starts great just a push of the button .
bad points on my tpi when coming down the gears is stalling, specially when coming into a slippery mud section.
doesn't always tick over when should.
the bottom end also isn't as strong as the carb model but the top end is more predictable and controlled.
I also still have my carb model 300 exc 2017 and this model definitely has more bottom end to pull you up steep decents.
apart from that pretty much the same ands the carb model but when it comes to doing any work on the tpi I think it will be going to the shop now and not me doing the work as it looks very complicated with wires going all over.
to some it up ,it a nice bike until it to goes rong.
I do ride extreme and will let you know more info next month 🙈

im also had owning husky te250i(same ktm compny)... nothing complicated, just same like older carburetor version if you want to do top end rebuilt... the wire is all socket and plug... for me the stock powervalve setup is not right, maybe they tune it like that to make smooth and late power delivery and not feel like riding 2stroke at all... i have turn the pwrvalve screw 1 turn out, and change the spring using red, now it feels same with my exc carb version and the engine love to rev high..

Her tür parkurda zevk verir.

OK if anyone wants an update.
so sorted my problem on my tpi.
first of all I tried doing some extreme riding with the bike standard.
I couldn't get up the same hills plus lots of stalling.
on my carb bike was a peace of bliss 😢.
anyhow I turned the screw up that turns the throttle up (clockwise )when the tick over goes up turn the air screw (clockwise ).
this now gives the bike more power plus doesn't stall anymore. (perfect ).
I would goes as far as saying she's as good as a carb but it's not far off now.

better change the stock tiny fuel filter to bigger performance fuel filter because stock is so tiny and tend to clog, that why this bike run leans from factory and hard to start when cold... this will make bike seize if not aware... one more thing, u need to decork the oil filter bracket because it comes with restrict frame from factory, maybe because emission law... with the stock one, your bike cannot breath flowly, thats why when full throttle the rpm is stalling early at end rpm...

Lots of trail bikes years ago and tons of snowmobiles had oil injection with no warning lights. Had to check the bottle before each ride and figure out how many tanks it was good for before you need to refill it. I'm surprised they don't have a low oil warning light on them though.

Top the oil and fill the fuel. But agree, given they are injected the ecu could use a fail safe easy enough.

I think it's cool that KTM came out with a fuel injected 2 stroke bike but I do not think it's better than the carbureted i have never had to rejet my carb is much as all these guys saying these videos if you run it rich it's going to run rich and spew out the pipe I've been running Amsoil at 80 to 1 in my 2017 ktm xcw no problems at all i have not changed my jetting
