“If you’re a Kanye West fan, you’re not a fan of me, you’re a fan of yourself. I’m just the espresso.”
- Kanye West ✨
kanye is one of the greatest at subtle progression within production. i love how the cellos, bass, and pianos build in the background behind bars.
fr he surely has a good ear for production
Part of his synesthesia fs
Yes and he has a very good and varied taste in music so I love how his samples can be from any genre... not just soul like most hip hop producers but stuff like Krautrock, prog rock, industrial, synth pop, electronic, classical, indie etc.
This released as a response to the IMMENSE backlash he got for interrupting taylor swift at an award show and saying that beyonce deserved it instead. He disappeared for an entire year and came back with this.
On Gorgeous: "No more chances, if you blow this, you're bogus" = "This album is your last chance, do not mess this up"
On All of the Lights: "I slapped my girl, she called the feds.." = "I fucked up and upset the public, and I got cancelled"
On Power: "You got the power to let power go?" = "Am I secure/content enough to step away from the limelight now?"
Runaway is entirely about self reflection (thats why it opens with "Look at ya!" bouncing between your ears) and Kanye deciding that he is not mature enough to let power/fame go. He tells us to run away from him if we don't like his actions, because he will not change for us. He's acknowledging his wrongdoing yet still not apologizing. The outro of the song isn't a synth or a guitar, it's Kanye singing through a vocoder and you can barely make out that he's singing the chorus. A popular interpretation of it is that it's a metaphor for how he's unable to find the right words to communicate as a public figure.
His beautiful, dark, and twisted fantasy is fame. Every reference to a woman in this album can be replaced with his relationship with fame and it makes even MORE sense given the context of his life at the time, which to me is the genius of this album. A goal that he once thought was the answer to his problems becomes a spiraling machine, one that he is both unwilling and unable to escape from.

“My favorite Kanye album is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. In my opinion, the greatest album ever made. Of all albums. Yeah better than Thriller. I said it” - Chris Rock
Amazing comment
It's extra tragic to consider that in hindsight with how he's been the past few years
Arguably the greatest artist of this era (he produces the majority of his work)
I’d highly recommend hearing his discography from the start. Namely because the artistic directions he took across his discography shifted the sound and content of the hip hop as a genre from the 2000s to present
Also Kanye produces 90 percent of his songs, he was first a great producer before he became a rapper as well. Truly a musical genius. Please do more Kanye Loved the video :)
a bit misleading. he has production credits on 90% of his songs but he also has a laundry list of producers that help him create music from mbdtf onward. the original college trilogy was mostly him though with arrangement help from others
@@axelmartinez3540 exactly but to be fair that's kinda what makes him such a respected artist, a lot of artists that get as big as him are no longer as involved in their music anymore, yet he still curates all his songs/albums, basically orchestrating everyone involved to get exactly what he wants in the end product, very few people can do that as well as him
To my knowledge, he only has 2 songs on all his albums that he’s not credited as a producer on. He’s made contributions on just about everything (Touch the Sky and Devil in a New Dress)
Oh for sure i’m not trying to downplay his ability to create and curate great music at all. to me he’s one of the greatest musical minds of the 21st century
Lol kanye is literally known for a lot of his albums basically being massive collaboration albums with how much he works with so many other artists, producers and all kinds of people to create his music. It's not even a bad thing but he doesn't make all his music himself. @@nah8780
The sample on devil in a new dress is indeed a soul song. Its smokey robinson
Wow 😮 cheers for that 👍
Kanyes original thing was he made soul sample based beats. College dropout has a lot of them @TwistTheScript
Elton John was featured on all of the lights, always love hearing his voice towards the end of the song!
Wow really … 😮 cool … thanks for your comment 👍
Late to the party, but can explain the end of Runaway since no one seems to be doing that accurately.
The last 3+ mins where Kanye uses a vocoder is a play on what he feels like he sounds like when speaking to women and the media. The first half of the song he’s describing his vulnerabilities and how he struggles in relationships. The end is how he feels his voice is begging heard by others. And you can’t understand it.
Starting from the beginning with Kanye is a great idea imo, the evolution of his style will be a great journey
On Runaway, the last few minutes is Kanye on a vocoder (or something like that), freestyling a poem he wrote to Kim Kardashian. Such creativity. For me, I love the time he takes in those extended outros. Adds so much atmosphere.
Except this album came out in 2010, well over 2 years before he even started dating Kim. Also the lyrics during that pseudo-instrumental vocoder part of the song are pretty clearly (well, “clearly” being a relative term here) lyrics from earlier in the song, specifically from what I think would be considered the bridge (I’m no good with the nomenclature of song structure, so perhaps “refrain” would be more precise, but either way, the point remains). The first sentence of the original comment is correct, though - it’s a synth running through a vocoder (or is it a vocoder running through a synth?! the world may never know).
You guys would love the short movie he created for this album, an absolute masterpiece. High level artistic views and colours.
your dad seems cool. can’t wait for 808s and yeezus 😮 glad i got in on this channel early.
also for maximum subscribers it would prob be smart to space out the kanye releases like a month apart and start back from college dropout. also make sure to do the bonus tracks on albums like graduation and watch the throne
Agreed Totally 👍
You guys never miss👌keep up the amazing work
That was a perfect reaction, and definetly all the songs will grow even more in yall
I love watching people discover Kanye’s music for the first time, and I think it’s mainly because I have such powerfully emotional memories of hearing it for the first time myself, and so these sort of videos are really the closest I can get to re-experiencing those memories. Isn’t nostalgia just so wonderfully painful?
The videos to some of these songs are amazing
Great video lads keep it up ✌🏻
Hey from the other side of the pond 🤣
Thanks guys appreciate the comment. Keep up the good work yourselves. Top content 👍👍
Great video, really. I enjoy all of the parent reactions. Music is a way to connect, I wish I could connect more with people in my family using music.
Keep up the great work, hope you go over all of Kanye’s disco
Great reaction guys
Just found this vid and watched all of it already subbed
Legend. Thank you 👍
so good man can’t wait for the whole kanye series
You guys rock man keep doing your thing!
Thanks 👍
Love seeing people exploring Kanye for the first time!
loved it guys
Thanks 👍❤️
Instant subscribe! Keep up the awesome content
There needs to be a “yeah” counter on your vids lmao fire reaction i think another album you’d enjoy is Pusha T Daytona, its short and fully produced by kanye
I agree, I think ‘Yeah’ is taking over the word Vibe !! We need to extend our vocabulary 😂
“My favorite Kanye album is My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. In my opinion, the greatest album ever made. Of all albums. Yeah better than Thriller. I said it” - Chris Rock
Hey guys really looking forward to Swimming! Love this album as well!
Brilliant reaction boys
more kanye!!! start from the beginning, it’s worth it
My new favourite dad and son reaction channel.. 👍🏻
Wow thanks 👍 means a lot 👍❤️
@@TwistTheScript very down to earth style and dad really knows his music. Please do some Em, if you can.. 👍🏻
Love your guys's reaction! I get a great vibe from you lads, I already know your channel is gonna be growing much more in the future
And yes, please do the rest of Ye's albums, they are on par with this one in my opinion, you are going to be in for a great journey
Thanks for your comments … 😊 really glad your enjoying us 👍 😉
the reason kanye gets scrutinised by the media so much is because he says everything he feels and it gets taken out of context, he wears his heart on his sleave, i don't know another artist that vulnerable. as he says in a later album "they cant define me so they crucify me" and "I just feel like I'm the only one not pretendin'
I'm not out of control, I'm just not in they control
Right on!
The dude said he likes Hitler you muppet. Not sure how that can be taken out of context. He's an idiot.
Ayy lets goo kanye journey starts
keep doin, i like you guys nad love this type of content
Runaway has the eyes wide shut sample . I knew I heard it !!!!!! The sample with the vibe and song lyrics is truly genius.
Good Video! More kanye. Subscribed
great reaction
Best rap album ever. One of the best albums of all time. You def need to go back to College Dropout and listen to them chronologically. There is so much lore with Kanye and each album is a reflection of what's going on in his personal life. Also 90% of reaction channels blowup from Kanye videos
Thanks for your comments and suggestion 👍 that’s our plan in the near future 👍😉
Amazing reaction, you deserve to get my sub!
Thanks 👍 Really appreciated ❤️
Great reaction, we need more Ye!!
Cheers 👍 lots to come for sure 👍😊
a complete revolutionary in hiphop for soul samples - hes one of the greats for sure
Just subbed! Hope to see more Kanye! It really does tell a lot about a person through their artwork. You'll notice that he's never shy'd away from his own public opinion even if it's unpopular or controversial. Reading the discography of where he was in his life at the time of each album would be great. There was a leaked documentary of Kanye that gives great incite during his musical journey. Great reaction!
Thanks for your comment … 👍 really appreciated 😉 we aim to go through KY Discography overtime for defo 👍❤️😉
KW
Runaway = wow... that was so authentic.
👍👍😉😁
Greatest album ever, Kanye is a genius !
some might say it's unfortunate that you started with his magnum opus, but i personally get excited to listen to so many of his other projects which is something i can't say for a lot of artists i listen to. just subbed and i'm excited for your kanye journey!
Great reaction, love your open-minded ness
Thank you! 😊
Great reaction lads. I can tell you’re gonna like most of Kanye’s music and you’ll be surprised at the difference
knowing older northern people they are quick to judge things they arnt used to. its refreshing to see you being so open minded and liking kanye. personally kanye is the greatest to do it, you have to listen to his whole discography, not one album sounds the same and he isnt scared to experiment in his music. be open minded with every album. (plus every album reaction will bang views lol)
Thanks for your comment 😂👍
Top 5 album of all time for me 🔥
Dark fantasy was used in the hangover movie, that's probably where you heard it
The reason for kanyes longevity is because of albums like this💯
The song devil in a new dress actually sampled distant lover by marvin gaye so your motown comment was spot on!
You guys will have to listen to 808s and Heartbreak as well as Yeezus. His two best and most unique albums imo
Not his best but definitely Unique
808s is unique and influential, but definitely not his best. I still like it, but it's definitely worse than the college series, yeezus, tlop, and domda.
Kanye has the greatest discography of any artist ever. Top to bottom it’s a creative masterpiece all the way through
Plus all his unreleased songs/albums. Especially Good Ass Job & TG16
His decline started at the life of Pablo. Messy release, so much so that he had to rerelease and remaster songs. Everything after that is not worth the listen.
College dropout through Yeezus is incredible though.
@@Dumpingdumplings Wrong for every reason
@@OrderFromPain what reasons am I wrong? Am I wrong about TLOP?
Also, just be aware your opinion is in the minority. The majority of people agree he fell off at TLOP. Hence why his numbers and reviews went down
@@DumpingdumplingsJIK, KSG and Donda aren't worth to listen??????
Stunned you hadnt heard All of the Lights - Kell Brooks' ring walk song
Suprised Gav didn’t pick up on that one 🤔 he’s a big boxing fan … 🤣 il ask him later 👍👍
Think I've found a new favorite channel! Great reaction guys and always nice to see a father and son together and bonding over something.
Kanye is up there with the likes of Prince, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie etc as one of the greatest music artists of all time for me, his catalog is absolutely phenomenal.
Lot of this album is a symbolism for celebrity fame, and is the epitome of what Kanye and his life has become, the first line in the album with Nicki Minaj sums it up. Ever since Graduation he has been talking a lot about fame like in songs Good Life and Flashing Lights. There’s also They Say by Common which featured Kanye and what he talks already shows his ideology between him and the public aka kind of representing his schizoid behaviour which is a prominent idea in POWER inspired by King Crimson’s 21st Century Schizoid Man.
I really recommend watching Dissect Podcast’s interpretation of this album if you want to know more. They have a lot of other in depth album analysis you could check out
Thanks for the insight. Will listen to the album a few more times on my own first then watch the Dissect Podcast. Think the first listen to any album personally I take in the music. After that the lyrics and true meaning I can get deep on.
Cheers for the recommendation 👍
For the record even tho everyone props this up as the best album just know that he still has other albums you might like even more, this one is on a lot of people's top 3 but his first 3 albums are usually in the number 1 spot. I highly suggest you listen to his first 3 albums, his production and rapping is absolutely insane
The greatest artist of the 21st century genius
Your dad might have recognized the "can we get much higher" bit because it interpolates a mike oldfield song
more kanye please , great video
808s & Heartbreak is definitely one to check out.
Ye we looking into these … 👍 had a few requests for them 👍😉
one of the greatest of all time
Blew us away 👍
Subscribed!! A kanye journey would be beautiful to watch
Defo be back on Kanye 👍👍
Defo on the cards 👍 we going to go through KW discography in near future for sure 👍😉❤️
Kanye is hip hops musical genius there’s a reason prince loved him and Paul McCartney considers him a friend and has music with him. His mind is crazy. He’s also a painter, producer and architect. He’s written and produced for Janet Jackson, Rihanna etc. There’s a whole Netflix documentary series that took 20 years to make that shows his genius like his journey is crazy. An art student from the south side of the Chicago who nobody wanted to sign because he wasn’t gangster. He changed what defines rap forever
Great insight 👍 thanks for your comments 👍😉
Can’t wait to see yalls reaction to Yeezus… Totally different and a masterpiece in its own way
In Runaway the last part is not a guitar, It's actually Kanye pretending he is a Guitar
Love the video, keep up with the great reactions.
Haha
Kanye’s whole discography is sooooo amazing. Definitely check out his other projects!
great artist ye
this album is the best album on the planet… greatest rollout and music video #godfather
Loved this, you guys should react to his latest album Vultures 1.❤
Starting from the beginning. Just done CD. Next is Late Reg
35:17 that “fuzzy guitar” the dad is referring to is actually Kanye singing the hook but it’s been mixed in a way to sound like an electric guitar. The guy is a creative genius for real
Hi mate Craig here DAD 🧑 haha that’s genius I would never have known that 😮 thanks for your comment ❤️👍
@@TwistTheScriptNo worries mate. Can’t wait to watch you react to College Dropout, you’re in for an exciting ride🫡
W video
nice reaction! also we need mac miller - swimming NOW!
Done, out Tuesday 👍
Legend
Did you watch it? OMG we loved it. What an album 👌
yes bro! i watched it and it was an amazing reaction :) @@TwistTheScript
Should definitely check out his other albums!
Defo will be doing in near future for sure 👍😉
definitely start at college dropout, his first 3 albums are straight classics and every project progresses as he experiments with different sounds.
Great reaction as always. One album I would love to see if you could review Atrocity Exhibition by Danny Brown. Many consider it one of the best hip hop albums made, and the tracks are KILLER!!
great video, you should react to his 808s & heartbreak, it released in 2008 and has somewhat similar cinematic production and clever lyricism, it has a sad theme to it though
Thanks for your suggestions 👍
Being creative and not being scared on taking risks making hit records that also have that classic feel to them and on top of that..having a real message is what makes kanye west a genius. Not many artist in music history have 10 classic albums 7 of his own and 3 as a producer for the rappers albums below..
Jay z - the blueprint
Common - Be
Pusha T - Daytona
kanye has 84 platinum songs out of 184 songs
75 Grammy nominations.. the 4th most ever kanye won 24 Grammy's in total.
Classics 🎖
Mainstream success 🎖
Critically acclaimed 🎖
All huge achievements it's super rare and kanye has influenced pretty much everyone we listen to. You can hate the man but you can't deny his one of a kind legendary career.
Great insight 👍👍 thanks for your comments ❤️
I have a feeling you guys would really enjoy the Life of Pablo by Kanye is is personally a favorite
Thanks for your suggestion 👍 going to go through the discography in near future 👍😉
❤
Nothing more exciting than seeing people discovering Kanye (Ye) and seeing the reactions they have. 9 times out of 10 it is, wow not what I expected. Excited to see you go through his discography.
turningthetables if they were from manchester🤣great vid lads new favourite channel
Wow thanks for your comment 👍😉❤️
Please react to graduation or yeezus I feel like you all would enjoy those albums and they’re pretty enjoyed by most people
Loved the video would be amazing to see you too react to college dropout❤

Thanks for the suggestion … 👍
yoooo you guys really feel it, masterpiece album, there is a book by the series of "33 1/3" just talking about this fantastic album and how it became the greatest of this century. just a recommendation. and plsss listen to hell of a lifeeeee

I think you guys missed “hell of a life” but this was a great video!
Thank you Kev. Mate it got copyright banned.
I’m from near Bolton… you two sound local
Manchester mate 👍👍
The thing is that Kanye's all albums are very different. And some of them have changed the landscape of hiphop and pop music. You should do some research. My personal favorite Kanye album is still The College Dropout. But everyone have different albums as best Kanye album
26:41 - its an old smokey robinson song. i think its called will you still love me tomorrow, not sure
Great reaction! Would recommend checking out Rodeo by Travis Scott
4EVA IS MIGHTY LONG TIME next
I swear you won’t regret it
The reaction was perfect, although no suits 🥲
