For odia yellow is the bridal color traditionally. Nowadays not many wear yellow. Mostly red or something more mainstream. I wanted to wear a yellow saree with the kunkuma( Bengali bridal chandan bindi design. Yes we have that also in our tradition ). Not many brides are wearing alta now. I want to add that also. Mehendi is good but alta is love. In one word I want to be ready as an odia bride. It's in trend or not, doesn't matter.

It's not about red or pastels. Pastels work for North Indian style weddings that mostly go viral on social media, plus this weddings happen at morning or day mainly so it adds to romance and all. But for eastern brides it's mainly night wedding, and dark colour look better at night plus dark colour compliments most dusky or brown skintone. Most Bollywood actress picture here are not very brown or dusky, I think it all comes too what colour looks the best on your skintone. Red is a vivacious colour and a powerful colour, I think no matter what the trend nowadays maybe, a woman wearing red makes a timeless bride. Trends keep changing, elegance and beauty that red adds is evident on the wedding lehangas from Priyanka Chopra and Sonam Kapoor.
Edit: With over 50 comments by users bashing me for being clueless about north Indian wedding, I will like to say I wrote my comments based on the north Indian wedding that go viral on social media and the ones that this video was mentioning which all mainly took place in day time. My comment was more about the choice of colours of wedding wear and why choosing pastel colour isn't for everyone no matter it being on trend. I still stand by my comments simply because colour theory is legit and most celebs and fashion enthusiasts get it done and dress accordingly ☮️

Maybe celebrity North Indian weddings occur during daytime but most normal North Indian weddings usually occur at night and it all depends on Muhurat (astrological auspicious time).
South India muhurutham usually is in the morning. There is no color coding mostly. Some have white or cream color requirement. But usually other than black any color is ok. But this varies from region to region.
People may may changed this to suit their present time needs but it is still not the way you have described. Traditions don’t care whether the bride is dusky or fair! 😂😂😂

In my life, I have hardly seen red coloured sarees or ghaghara worn by Hindu brides, even though Red is considered auspicious in Hindu traditions. Only in Bullywood movies the quintessential brides wore red. Bullywood doesn’t own Pantone’s gamut or the fashion industry. Ig you aren't aware of all the parts of the country
In the Northeastern parts , especially in Assam ( as I'm from here) and even the rest of the states , bridal attires have very mild and utopian colours radiating so much of soft and tender vibes.
In Assam the bridal Mekhela Sador is made of pure silk with golden threadworks
So simple and yet so magistic and elegant!!

First of all, India is so diverse culturally, that literally every state has unique and iconic bridal wear. Red lehenga or pastel lehenga or lehenga itself is not at all the representation of an Indian bride. So it's up to the bride to opt for what she's comfortable in, the venue, the lights, the time of the day along with her and her family's taste and budget.

Red red red. Shaadi is it a trend. It is for ever. I will always support a traditional red. I was a modern bride and intentionally chose red despite of the social media trend. And one correction, light colour lehengas were a thing in late 90s and early 2000s my cousin wore a pastel yellow for her wedding in early 2000s and other cousin wore light blue. I don’t want to look like a wedding guest in my wedding. Red is the colour of bride. Just like white in Christian / catholic weddings is the colour of bride.

team red for sure. although many cultures have forgone the traditional red for a white wedding or light pastels, red used to be considered the supreme color for brides in most places in asia. not everywhere, but it was a lucky and auspicious color for brides and so when i think of a proper wedding dress, i see red. pink is pretty but you just don't look like a bride. it's just another dress. but you do you still. it's just my preference.
