I believe anne Hathaway should have gotten an Oscar for this movie. she was spot on brilliant in this!

Yeah she was and I have this movie still gets me everytime with her acting and she was nominated but Kate Winslet won for The Reader! I am also glad Kate Winslet won but Anne Hathaway won for Les Miserables for Best Supporting Actress*** However I do agree with you on Anne's performance especially when she talked about her brother Ethan and her character Kim just was acting out b/c she killed her brother by accident****

I agree. When Kym came her mom's home for solace, she soon discovered that Abby is also responsible for Ethan's death by letting him stay in her care despite being a drug addict. Upon confronting her, Kym pointed out that his death could've been avoided if she let Rachel take care of him. Abby mentions she left Ethan in her care is because she was good to him and admits her own hatred for Rachel in being a hypocrite for how she treats Kym. The fight wasn't overdone and Kym left in her dad's car sobbing hysterically because she felt that Abby didn't accept responsibility and apologize for her actions. After she came home in a police car and passing a sobriety test, Rachel is getting ready. When she comes across Kym's bruised face, Rachel realizes what happened to her without asking and lets go of her own anger to help her sister get ready.

I love Kate Winslet but she was not THAT good in the reader. Not compared to Anne in RGMarried or even Kate in revolutionary road

I saw this movie like 7 years ago at the very first time and before this I never thought Anne is brilliant actress BUT after this monologue (!!!) she became one and still a huge fan of her!!!!
I'm glad to see that she still got good roles and I was really really happy when she won her Oscar for Les Miserables!!!
    Go on, Anne!!!

I love how she is including every detail. Almost like stalling before she has to finish the story and get the inevitable tragic end.

Damn i feel for kym so badly because on one hand I know what she did was unforgivable but on the other hand like she was 16, so its hard when you are jugling still beeing underage yet dealing with so much responsibility of a huge consequence

For so long this was a monologue I would use to audition ❤ producers absolutely loved it! -
I love Anne Hathaway by the way

Love hearing that ! This monologue can only work when delivered with care and ridding yourself of all ego. It’s about what’s between the words and that’s why it’s so powerful

Superb. I go to a 12 step program like Kym’s. Wow they nailed the real thing

Absolutely deserved the Oscar for this understated and authentic portrayal of mental illness and addiction; nothing about this monologue screams forced or trying-too-hard, which is about all I can say for her performance in Les Miserables. My god, was that an overblown trainwreck of a performance.

I mean, it was theatrical because it was a musical and Fantine had gone through shit. But yeah, i agree this performance was more raw.

Anne won Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables and she has the Hollywood Walk Of Fame as well. She was great in Rachel Getting Married. Kim was acting out b/c she felt guilty b/c of what happened to her little brother Ethan. She never forgave herself for what happened.
    So sad.

I never was a huge fan of Anne Hathaway, and hearing about her playing a drug addict i thought she'd be totally miscast....needless to say how impressed and amazed i was by her performance and the movie! absolutely brilliant!

No one should ever let a sixteen year old drive a six year old alone, whether they have issues or not. A new driver is a dangerous driver even if completely sober.

Really? This sucks! I started laughing out loud when she says she drove off the bridge. This is what you guys call good acting? Anne Hathaway has much better work.
