Absolutely Gary amen!! Shit those poor souls they didn’t know what the frick was going on, at least they died instantly but what kills me is that father really pushed his son to do this with him on Sunday?😳 the scariest part is in the interview with that Derek journalist saying that if there was even a crack, even a hole in that sub, they would be dead. Instantly they wouldn’t even know it hit them. So sad the ocean is no joke it’s not to be messed with but to be respected and to be given the honor it should because you never know what can happen being on top or on the bottom if there is a ocean or sea storm God, help you.

I get your sentiment - I really do. I worked in the Calais refugee camps back in 2016. I have a lot of sympathy and empathy with refugees trying to escape their plight and we should all be doing much more.
That being said, there was something about this particular story internationally that garnered the imagination, the Titanic, the irony and (possible hubris) the potential of being stuck in a small space with air running out (which is what we were led to believe) is frightening and taps into most people’s worst fears. It was happening in real time and not your every day event.
The refugees should have attracted more attention than it had, yes. But I don’t think taking an interest in this story means we don’t care at all about the former. And sadly it won’t be the last time we hear about refugees dying at sea. It happens too often sadly.

OceanGate ignored warnings from the community about the safety of their subs. The rescue mission has cost the tax payer upwards of 7 million dollars and more importantly, resulted in the tragic loss of 5 people. OceanGate must be held accountable for this.

James Cameron is absolutely on point here. The fact that our world governments cannot work together to ensure basic safety regulations are followed is astonishing. Thankfully, up until this point, that community has been very good at internally enforcing regulation, committing to having their submersibles classed, etc. It is a shame that the community as a whole will now suffer setbacks in their exploration efforts due to the poor choices of an authority-shirking, egotistical person.

I waited helplessly for the bridge to IMPLODE... listening for the sounds that might arrive, as we sunk toward the bottom. No implosion.. we bobbed back up to the surface, Repeatedly. WE many days before had been told "no chance of rescue ". We entered the eye for safety at about day 5 or 6... being made to follow the course of the storm. I keep a picture beside my computer desk of that sinking ship limping into harbor at Naples Italy... dense storm clouds wrapping around Mnt.Vesuvious . The big suggestion that we were done for, comes when you sink deeper down and the bridge goes dark... still no implosion..... GOD must have had a hand in all of that. Another whole chapter for my ship is, She went down and with 65 crew lost. One year after I got out due to deep emotional issues. I hurt for every sinking ship forever.
