Thanks for sharing! I inherited an air compressor when my uncle passed away a couple of years ago and finally got around to setting it up because I finally have a use for it. Definitely want to change the oil just as a preventive measure. Seems pretty straightforward-just need to find the oil drain on mine.
Side note, I’ve been watching your channel for a few years but I somehow never knew you were in the military. Thank you for your service!

Thank you so much for putting this video out.Have the same compressor and this was the first time I had done any oil change. Yes, let it go way to long without realizing and ran it out of oil. Thankfully it was caught before any damage, but had seized a bit. Had to hand crank a bit to get the oil moving again, but worked great afterwards. Thanks again!

Hi PF, Great video!! I just retired from a farm and ranch store and we sell a very good "blue" compressor made in the USA. When ever I would sell one, I would show the customer the maintenance kit we stocked. Even at close to $100. for the big kit, it was a easy sell. The compressor had a 5 year warranty but with the kit, they got another 2 years. Maintenance is important. KL

Great video! As a quick story, the first time I added oil to my compressor, I didn't know about the sight glass. I overfilled it so much that oil came out of the muffler when I turned it on. Oil splashed all over the place and I shut it down quickly. I drained the oil and I'm thinking that I didn't do any damage, since it ran for only seconds. I learned a huge lesson and I now know about the sight glass.

Excellent tip, think its something people overlook with compressors. With my compressor, its a big 3 cylinder one, I do a lot of car bodywork so it works relatively hard, I have put some lucas stabilizer and zx1 extralube into the oil, those two have made a huge difference to the amount of oil coming down the lines into my filters, almost none now, and before the electric motor would trip the inbuilt trip switch trying to start from cold when the temps got near freezing, now it starts right up no problem.

Thanks for your service in the military. The oil in my air compressor all of sudden went to the top one day when I looked at it. I've read that if you don't use it much it creates condensation in the oil. Every now and then i open the air drain at the bottom and run it for a good 8 minutes or so to burn off all the condensation.

    Nice info.
When removing the drain bolt, the copper tube it is bolted into should not detach but stay screwed onto the bottom of the compressor.
Hold the copper tube in place with a vice grip (do not clamp down too much), while removing the drain bolt.
That should allow you to have more of a drain pipe closer to the edge and lessen chances for a spill.
If the copper pipe unscrews anyway, then remove bolt once it is all out and refit the copper tube onto the compressor with thread sealer. Then replace drain bolt with new and soft gasket and gently tighten so this will be the one to come out next time.

i know this is an older video but im kinda new to channel, really love the stuff you do. here is my tip on oil changes. if the item is something you are going to keep. my dad and now i always change out the drain fittings to make it where it is easier and you dont get oil everywhere. linke on this compressor i would add a nipple and then a 90 down and the a pipe plug. that way you are clear of the frame. also i remove the water drain cock and put it out where i can get to it easy with a ball valve and a pie tin. i live in high humidity so i drain often.

I changed the oil in my 21gal. Harbor Freight I've had for about 6+yrs. It stays outside year round on my patio under a awning. After about 20 seconds it ran significantly smoother & quieter.

Thanks fellow vet! I just rinsed mine with some gas and then put in some DElo. My compressor is very small, maybe 1 1/2 gallons so it didn't take buch. Sure come a long way since then. Thanks, Commander! A-PLUS!

Hi Lewie, Always great hearing from you and thanks for the positive comments! Great choice on oil. I'll likely do the same next time I change the compressor oil, which I need to do soon. Thanks again and wishing yall many Blessings!

@@ProjectFarm HI Commander and I know non-detergent oil has it's place but I'm not really comfortable in using it when a high detergent, high dispersant will keep the crud loose BUT it does have to be changed. Maybe they figure the non-detergent is for non-changers. Sounds reasonable. BLESSINGS 2 yall!

@@ProjectFarm Hi Sir; I know you try to answer replies. I am somewhat concerned that HF is selling "Oil less compressors" In large size format of 20 gallon.
I have taken apart dead, cheap 12v tire inflaters and found metal piston in a plastic cylinder. I get the cheap, get what you pay for. But to me, I think they are selling 20 gallon air tanks for $200. How durable could they be. I sure hope the thermal overload kicks in, when a seized compressor becomes an electrical dead short, fire hazard.

    Thanks for all your reviews.
I was able to get the same air compressor recently, but in the process of loading it up on my truck, we had to tilt it on its side, which had the oil leak in the motor's mechanical parts, unfortunately even the electrical compononents. I will have to clean the oil off. Any suggestions on how to do it?
