    I just bought the smaller 480mm Makita XGT 40v lawn mower and did one lawn front and back today. I absolutely love it. Way better than my 140cc petrol mower. A certain tool store kept pushing EGO on me on me despite me pointing out why the Makita is better especially in thicker/taller grass. Have zero regrets and would highly recommend this Makita.

    I have the 40v Makita. So far the only negative to me is that when the first battery gets low it slows down quite a bit but won’t switch to the second battery I guess until it’s completely dead. I don’t have the patience so I usually just pull out the low battery and flip it over to force the mower to use the full battery.

    • @lovelawns

    Great comparison. That Makita looks like a fantastic mower. The 4 swing back blades are great. I use the Ego select cut in my business as I have already invested so much into the Ego gear. I have found the power to be excellent for the lawns I do. Most of my lawns are fortnightly. I find the Ego mulches a lot better than the swing back blades but as you said it doesn’t have as much suction as the swing back blades when catching. Also the Ego is half the weight of a commercial petrol mower.
    My only concern with the Makita is dealer support. As far as I know you can only get their equipment at tool shops. So getting spare parts or servicing might be an issue. What is the runtime compared to the Ego. Thanks, Billy.

    An interesting video. Seen this same mower power through much thicker grass than any of this without stalling. Plenty torture test videos with the Ego on youtube. I've done the same on my own lawn as I own one of these myself. Looks like the self propel has issues while having it cranked up to its highest and going through taller grass. I turn the self propel off when I mow because the tool is so light I don't need it and, as you've pointed out, it's just doesn't work very well.

    • @lovelawns
      @lovelawns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve seen those videos too. The results you see in this video were consistent in my time using it. It just struggles when trying to cut thick grass. Those other ‘torture videos’ you mentioned are pretty pointless. It may get through the grass but look how it’s cutting it. I never want a mower that can do that. I want a nice clean cut with nothing left behind. I also want to use the self propelled feature otherwise I wouldn’t of bought a self propelled mower. The mower had already been back to Ego to fix the self propelled motor and this is what I got back. Not sure what else to say, maybe I had a dud mower…?

    • @BronzeLincolns81
      @BronzeLincolns81 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lovelawns The stalling is a surge issue triggered by self-propel being on it's highest setting when the motor ramps up for taller grass. Battery can't handle the load. Have you tried setting SP to medium setting and going over the same grass? One of those torture test videos ran into the same issue. Kept stalling on higher speed but was fine when he turned it down(not off). Cut quality in your video for the Ego looks equivalent to the Makita in both scenarios sans the stalling and being your sample wasn't even that thick to begin with, this is definitely an overload issue with the Ego. It will cut tall grass fine and you can use self-propel, just not on it's highest setting. A design bug Ego needs to fix.

      It’s marketed as, the all singing all dancing better than gas mower, so it’s the best they do at the moment. Looking forward to a proper commercial battery mower from Ego.

    My experience is I went all in with EGO in my landscape business, which included getting the mower.
    Before I say any more, go ahead and Google 'EGO mower wheel lock.'
    Until they fix their self propel problem, stay away from this mower.
    I've enjoyed their other tools and used the heck out of them. (Other than the 650 CFM blower. My 530 blower has outlasted three 650 blowers. The 650 is a lemon.)
    I'll be going Makita this year...

      i think i will be doing that. My wife got me an Ego blower and weed trimmer, but I already had my battery replaced which it's rather concerning as they don't seem to last long. I have recently invested on the XGT eco system through construction, so this might be a good choice for me. I certainly don't want the mower to cut out on me on thicker grass.

      Been super impressed with the Makita gear. Not so much with the Ego 👍🏻
