Ladies and gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's smoothest saxophonist. Eddie Harris will be that man. Better than he was before. Better... stronger... smoother.
Absolutely epic track, and the epilogue in particular. I can almost remember the liner notes of the CD about this track: "unfortunately the recording session Eddie talked about never materialized." Amazing proto-sax-with-effects. Must be the Varitone. Such artistically used palette of sounds.
I love this piece. It's made even better because there's a guy in the audience/band that you can tell is just feeling it. And you can almost live it just be pretending you are him. His laughing and yeah's..
I think that Eddie Harris never received his proper due as a musician, and especially as a saxophonist. He wanted to be held in the same class as John Coltrane and Charlie Byrd Parker. But to me, he was in a class all by himself, for I hear him as a Funkmaster. So Eddie don't feel like you weren't ever given your props, because you are in a funk class all by yourself.
Believe me, I'm a saxophone player and every sax player I know considers Eddie Harris as a monster. He played stuff that very few cats can play....to this day. Very original, extremely creative musician.
"Несбывшиеся мечты". У Эдди Харриса были большие планы на запись и аранжировку этой темы (судя по его юморному повествованию на этой концертной записи), которые он, к сожалению, так и не осуществил(

If only he was cut loose in the studio with his choice of instruments to do this again.

I think this along with "Set Us Free" are two of the greatest jazz tunes ever.
