when i was on united airlines, they offer you either a cookie, pretzel, or waffle. i took waffle and they gave me a strupwaffel and i was instantly in love. i was super lucky that i was able to travel to amsterdam and buy fresh ones and a pack of 3 with 10 in each bag for only €6!
It is worth noting that using a detergent cleaner on a waffle plate is never recommended th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUfphIgghPSpAXNq6OG2WRYsFVqylcqMn though people who don't understand about kitchen hygiene won't understand that a stiff brush is all that is necessary to clean the inside of the unit. Let it cool slightly but still perform the cleaning while it's warm. I used to have a Black and Decker unit that I just loved, and was concerned when we had to replace it that I might not find one that I like just as much. This one does it for me.
Actually, the iron was purchased online in the Netherlands! It's not the easiest thing to find in shops because people usually buy stroopwafels rather than make stroopwafels at home. But, you could seek out a sort of professional restaurant supply shop, or order online and have it delivered to you while in the Netherlands. Good luck!
Thank you, Maya Li. These stroopwafels are delicious and the hardest thing about making them might indeed be finding the iron. The iron used in the video is from the Netherlands, bought during a trip there. If you live in the UK, you will most likely have to order one online. You can look for pizzelle makers / irons, as well - these yield a similar result. If anyone finds a speciality shop in the UK where one can find one, do let us know!

Thanks for posting this. I'm hosting some Dutch exchange students in Canada, and they brought a package of this stuff as a gift. I ate it up pretty quick, found more at a grocery store (they're super expensive there). Now I can make my own!
Hi there, stroopwafels are a little bit soft when they're cold, especially if you leave them out in a humid area, or store them with other items. They should definitely be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place (not the fridge). You could also freeze them individually, then defrost at room temperature. But in general, the fresher they are, the more crunchy they are.
Strooowafel is one of my fave snacks in Netherlands! Thanks for this easy recipe tutorial :) Do you have a video tutorial for the recipe of Fastelavnsboller? Can you make one??? Thanks!!!
Treacle is not available in Indonesia. You have to go to specialized imported goods supermarket in Jakarta and nag at them. I use light molasses or pancake syrup (golden syrup) to substitute that. The original one would use keukenstroop which is dark, smokey, and not very sweet compared to Lyle's pancake syrup.
Wow! It's amazing this recipe. I'm love these fantastic biscuits because I can remember the popular "obleas", it's similar but different. Obleas are famous sweet street food tipycal from Venezuela. Oh thank so much, and I know my english is very poor, but I writting with love

molasses can be brought in the uk from holland and barret. I have tried to make these at least 4 times and each time they have never been as good as the real thing, possibly due to the fact we didnt have molasses. we only had light corn syrup.

hi Maria, thanks for posting this great recipe! just wondering about the iron - I have done a lot of research and it looks like the one you're using is a Palmer's Belgian Cookie Iron - but I can only seem to find them for sale in America, which means they have the wrong voltage (i'm in Australia, which uses 220 volts, America uses 110-120) my question is, do you happen know where I can get one that has the right voltage? Australia, UK, Europe, Asia (except Japan) are all fine. I don't want to get a voltage converter as they are big and heavy and i need to be able to travel with the iron… would you have any suggestions? many thanks!

they're delicious! But they're actually called 'stroopwafel'.
And the trick to eating these is to lay one on top of hot coffee so that the filling melts. Yum!
