I never realized how weird we (people that work with the dark side of life) can be. I was once sitting, eating lunch with several people, including vets, nurses, EMS, Fire Dept, and cops. I noticed a couple of people turning roughly the color of lime juice, and realized just how dark and gruesome the joking and stories had turned. I suggested maybe changing the subject, and everyone else started to realize, as well.

I can understand where you are coming from man. You were able to do your 20, I went out just shy of 12 due to an injury. Lost to the Medical Board and that was all she wrote. "Thanks for your contribution and time, have a nice day". Went to the pay-cage with my paperwork handed it and my ID card to the E4. He cut it in half with some big ass scissors, handed me a check and never said a word. 72 hours later this former E6 was no longer the responsibility of the US Army. So the big bad Ranger is no longer in the fight. What you gonna do now PL? I have the bouts of depression, the daily welling of the eyes, the loss of the camaraderie, of having a defined purpose in life. Now I am completely medically retired, VA and SSA due to shit that known by the docs in the Army but never followed up on. I am 61, I have been out since 88'. I have worked previously in law enforcement and did 13 years on Camp Mackall as a civilian instructor and training facilitator at the Q-Course. Shit happens, that's why they make the bumper sticker. These younger guys, I am talking about Best, Hafer, Palmisciano and the rest have done a great service to guys like us and it some respects aren't even aware of it. I salute these guys for their focus and determination for they help us that are struggling a bit to maintain the pace. Toe the line Gunny and appreciate what you have done with your time in. You have done more in 20 than most people would ever think of doing in their lifetime. Semper Fi.

Well I’ll tell ya, he’s just a sample of the greatness you can find within the ranks of our so very talented military. I’ve never laughed as hard as I have “down range”, playing spades and just making fun of everyone....it’s what we do and how we bond. It’s also where we learn about brotherhood, which isn’t just putting you life in the line for your “brother”, but every single person in the unit, whether you like them or not......this is sacrifice, honor and true selfless service. I had other issues but the guilt and shame I felt after 20 in the Corps I still didn’t do enough for my country and the depression missing the Camaraderie were the biggest demons. BRCC and VET.tv are saving Vets life by humor. It has open my eyes. Pass it on.

I can understand where you are coming from man. You were able to do your 20, I went out just shy of 12 due to an injury. Lost to the Medical Board and that was all she wrote. "Thanks for your contribution and time, have a nice day". Went to the pay-cage with my paperwork handed it and my ID card to the E4. He cut it in half with some big ass scissors, handed me a check and never said a word. 72 hours later this former E6 was no longer the responsibility of the US Army. So the big bad Ranger is no longer in the fight. What you gonna do now PL? I have the bouts of depression, the daily welling of the eyes, the loss of the camaraderie, of having a defined purpose in life. Now I am completely medically retired, VA and SSA due to shit that known by the docs in the Army but never followed up on. I am 61, I have been out since 88'. I have worked previously in law enforcement and did 13 years on Camp Mackall as a civilian instructor and training facilitator at the Q-Course. Shit happens, that's why they make the bumper sticker. These younger guys, I am talking about Best, Hafer, Palmisciano and the rest have done a great service to guys like us and it some respects aren't even aware of it. I salute these guys for their focus and determination for they help us that are struggling a bit to maintain the pace. Toe the line Gunny and appreciate what you have done with your time in. You have done more in 20 than most people would ever think of doing in their lifetime. Semper Fi.
