    Just stumbled across your channel. Love the simplicity. Almost 65, still riding and using my tent. Keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t over complicate something as great as traveling on a motorcycle with someone you care about. Much respect.

    Hey y’all. Love the concept and that you are out there adventuring. I am not telling you what to do but a piece of advice. If you set a lean to near on or your bike. Do not do it on the kickstand side. If it rains or the ground gives in the middle of the night the bike will fall on you. Do it on the other side… not as much coverage but much much safer. Marine of 26 years and slept out in every kind of crap you can imagine. Also on a bike. Keep riding and safe travels.

    • @joymachinetheshow
      @joymachinetheshow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the advice! The tent is made to work this way and there is also a full metal plate under the kickstand so no danger of falling. May try on the other side too but hard to fit two people as it is, let along on high side of the bike. Thanks for the comment and the support though, we appreciate it!

      @@joymachinetheshow Hello Joy Machine ....Sorry, but no matter how confident you are, it is impossible for a low side squish if the bike is leaning away. Eliminate the risk completely and sleep confidently , that you are protected from harm ..rather then is harm's way, even if the risk is low. !!!! Just my 2 centz ..😀 Enjoy

    I grew up in Seattle, and had lots of adventures in Eastern Washington. In CleElum, we’d ride dirt bikes all over the old cold heaps. Around the Potholes, we’d fish/camp.
    Riding two-up, under a lean two doesn’t provide much shelter. But at least you can keep each other warm. I Solo off my ‘07 HD Deluxe, here in Idaho, and North Eastern Oregon. A plow-point tarp, pitched off the bike, makes up my crude camp. I use a tyvek ground cloth, and gortex bivy, stuffed with a air mattress, and down bag. The bike is leaning away, with the Ridgeline from the handlebars, staked to the ground, tarp, pinned at the corners. It works great. Better if it’s a lawn.
    The hot dogs were a nice touch… Your woman seemed chill. Rugged, but you’d better plan for more comfortable accommodations if it gets colder or rains. Mine would demand it. She’s not much for the bike, or Moto-camping, so I go solo.
    Thanks for the video!

      The simple approach was my favorite aspect. I like the Keep It Simple approach as well, although I'm an engineer so I tend more toward the high tech geeky version of ultralight simplicity. I do love seeing how other people motorcycle camp. I wanted a motorcycle lean-to tent like the one shown in the video, but I greatly prefer to hammock camp, and even more so as I age and sleeping on the ground becomes problematic.

    First time viewer. Enjoyed. BUT PLEASE, get a set of Rok Straps.. I almost lost an eye pulling on a bungee strap as NIKA was doing. Hot day, got impatient, kept pulling harder and harder then WHAM.. I fell to the ground my right hand under my left eye... started to lift my head and felt drip.. drip.. drip on the back of my hand. Thought sure it was the fluid from my eye. Fortunately, it was "only" blood from the slashed eyebrow the metal hook had torn through. I looked like a movie monster for six weeks. Never again. Rock straps aren't cheap, but life without a left eye would have been worse.

    • @joymachinetheshow
      @joymachinetheshow  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joymachinetheshow I was very, very lucky. Had zero vision in that eye for about a week. Doc though for a time I'd detached the retina... but once the fluid in the eye managed to filter out the blood within it, all returned to normal. But I'm a bit of an Evangelist for EYE safety whenever I see someone tugging on an bungee cord. Even a set of ratchet straps would be better as they hold stuff tight and never slip, but rok straps are great.

    @chuckwagon1892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This is not a criticism so don't take anything I'm about to say negatively. There's something luring about keeping things simple or minimalist. Your gear ... like, what gear[?] resembles something like a cowboy bed roll... a tarp ... and I guess something to boil water in and your bike is kind if like a good old loveable horse and together you're making your way west. You have zero creature comforts and you don't seem to need any. That's pretty cool.
    Some people pack everything they can fit and go to a lot of expense to buy expensive gear, and a roomy tent and a stove and on-and-on and many probably wish they had more room to pack more crap. I think your doing it better with far less crap with one exception. As long as there are two of you, it would be wise to invest in a good 3 season lightweight tent. A cold rainy night on a windswept prairie under that convoluted minimalistic shelter your using would be a very miserable experience and a good tent would offer protection from the elements. Other than that, keep on keepin-on.
    Good video and good luck in your adventures.
    Edit... several minutes after posting the above, I thought to myself... Heck, you two may well start a new trend in moto camping? The lesser and lighter - the better. Still, a good tent might save you a trip down hypothermia lane and that might put an end to what could evolve into a whole new culture of moto minimalist camping.. I wish you well.

      Hey thanks for taking the time to write a great comment. Yeah when the weather is cold we for sure have a few things to learn as far as keeping warm and a 3 season tent might be one of those things. I am also on disability, $800 a month, after I pay all my bills for the month I have about 200 or less, I have been going to goodwill looking for camping gear, I have a suzuki GN400T that I took the 16in rear wheel off and put a 18in wheel on, so both wheels are 18s,new kenda 270s, new ultra heavy duty tubes, a 1996 suzuki sp650 5 gallon desert tank on the bike now for better range of exploration, I had to put a heavy duty kick starter lever on that is also 2 inches longer so it will start easier,, i am selling my 76 Chevy van to pay for a new transmission for my 1967 vw trike that I originally built in 67 and just rebuilt for the 3rd time, I think that it is better now

    Is your tent a aussie swag tent that I see on a lot of aussie bike TH-cam sites?you should stake the other side so that the bike doesn't fall on you in the night, I had that happen to me one night, I made my own swag like I saw at a bike rally when my wife wanted to visit her family in wormamaroo Australia, I took my Harley over there and camped in a tent all the way to her father's house from Sidney, almost 3000 miles, and back, we went to 3 bike rallies and had a blast, lots of those tents there, made my own, a little bit larger, used it for 4 years and a guy and his wife bought it after offering me too much money for it
