I'm at peace and in a balance now, in a world of difficulty, adversity, trouble.., but, for sheer peace and enjoyment and a sense of the great past and the unlimited future, nobody should ever miss or ignore the great beauty of baroque music and so much of fine arts.., peace and joy to all...
This movement always brings a smile to my face somehow. I experience it as the musical equivalent of someone putting their arm around me and saying, 'hey chill out, it will all be just fine'
This selection is so fortified in beauty and perfection that one might feel mortally wounded - so to speak. Dying daily, as it were, is a wonderful position to hold. There is to my ear no prominently featured section in the whole. Each subset portion is suspended between that which preceded at that yet to be heard. This is one Corelli diamond to be sure. VOM is more than just the icing on the cake.
That's a violone, tuned an octave lower than the gamba, but there is no real standard for how it would have been tuned, and you see both fretted and fretless basses in iconography for this time.
jtorres5381 Greetings from Lima, Perú. You're right: it's part of the soundtrack of Master & Commander. I'm a fan of that movie I went to saw it 3 times at the cinema & I've bought the DVD. By the way, I'm a violinist. This piece is played when the Surprise has left behind Cape Horn & again when Dr Maturin must be transported to the Galápagos for taking out the bullet from his body. Greetings again.
Thank You Walvis and Voices of Music for this wonderful piece !!! ... MY SOUL ASCENDS THE SKIES ... ♥♥♥ People should learn not to misuse and overuse vibrato... amazing what one can do without ... :-)
The eighth concerto in G minor is, like the first seven, a church concerto whose movements preceded by tempo indications in Italian alternate between slow and lively tempos, homophonic and imitative writing. The work Fatto per la Notte di Natale is structured in six movements. The final Pastorale, which justifies its subtitle « For Christmas Eve » is linked to the last Allegro, contrasting by its tonality in G major and its tender swaying with of the musette sonorities. The Allegro - Largo (Pastorale ad libitum) evokes the lovely nativities that the Italian painters of this period, such as Antonio Balestra and others, bequeathed to us. Its date of composition is uncertain, but there is a document according to which Corelli performed a Christmas concerto in 1690 for the pleasure of his new patron, Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni. The twelve concertos are structured in two parts: the first eight of which are concerti da chiesa while the last four are concerti da camera. These Concerti which form this opus constitute in fact the apogee of this musical form of the Baroque era, at the same time as a testimony to the exceptional talent as a violinist and conductor that this Italian composer possessed. Music begins where the power of words ends. *Lucien*
Such a great fab group! Baroque rocks! Bill & Ondine :)...they're a great couple & yea long live baroque! I sing in Richmond CA.....@ St. David church and ummm they play this stuff...in fact Ondine gets some of Voices of Music to help since yeah...her and Bill are with VOM :) lovely all lovely!
You might like the film called "The Mission". It shows how a priest in 17th century South America entices the natives with a very simple oboe....but more than that ....great film ...music by Ennio Morricone. just a thought....thought you might like the film!
I've recently found out that among intellectuals during the 18th century, Corelli was a kind of rock star of his time. Thomas Jefferson's favorite composer was Corelli. His great works circulated among the elites during this time. It's completely understandable. His works have withstood the test of time.
If you listen closely you can see the Hms Surprise sailing far away. Awesome piece of music ❤️
If one gets to Heaven and turn on the radio, this is what one would hear...
"But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8
Exactly!
...truly, some of the most beautiful music on Earth....

Arcangelo Corelli es el primero de los genios italianos de la música cuyo legado fue continuado por Vivaldi, Marcello y Albinoni.

Hitchcock may be the master of suspense, but Corelli is the master of the suspension.

No se porque tengo la impresión de que se tomaron libertades con esta obra. Favor de corregirme si estoy equivocado.
No liberties were taken with this work :)

I think Pachelbel got his best ideas from Corelli.
I can't believe they are still playing this song when it was made in 1700s
People will be saying the same thing in 2100 and 2200 and 2300 and 2400 and forever
@@leo32190 I don't think youtube would even exist that time
