I just made this today. Only difference being that I didn't use chilli powder, but instead 5 fresh chillies without seeds. I made my own kerisik also in advance (toasted and blitzed it in a food processor). This dish is SO GOOD and honestly the best dish that I have ever made. I made it to celebrate Fathers' Day tomorrow, here in Estonia. Baby daddy was very pleased with this. Tomorrow we will have it again, followed by some cake. But yea, I'm already planning to make more of the wet base and keep it in a ziplock bag in the freezer so that the next time I make it, it won't be as time consuming. Awesome recipe!

I'm so happy to hear that, awesome! I have a slow cooker chicken rendang recipe (no need to baby sit it at all), do check it out. Thank you for your feedback and happy weekend!

Thanks a million Bea! I know it's been over a year since you posted this, but I am glad I found it. Tried making it today, and it turned out just perfect! The second Rendang Chicken recipe I am trying but I might not need a third one now. Love from Penang, Malaysia. 😘😘😘

Hi Apsar! Hey it's lovely to see another fellow Malaysian here 😘😘😘! I'm so happy to hear that you've tried and liked the rendang, thank you for letting me know that. It doesn't matter how old is the recipe as long as the taste is evergreen, right 😆? Enjoy your rendang and happy weekend! 😘

This is a very tasty chicken stew in coconut milk. I have tried this dish when I was in Kota Kinabalu for a month for a work assignment. Although it took place in June, 2001, I can still picture out, to this day, that open market where I would go for my food escapade after work hours. There was a section of that market where all the food vendors were. It was like local foods hub. I tried many local delicacies including satay and this dish, Ayam Rendang. By the time I was ready to leave the market, I had foods on both of my hands. It was an enjoyable and unforgettable experience for me!

Yes, it is very tasty indeed! Have you tried it with steamed glutinous rice? A perfect combo, I tell you. I can tell from your story that you really enjoyed that 1 month of food tryouts. I mean, work assignment 😃👍. Though I was not one of the food vendors there (I wish I was), I'm so happy to hear that you really enjoyed the food and the experience! And yes, going to the food market like that is dangerous. You better just bring RM10 or you'll end up buying everything there!

El Mundo Eats, I enjoyed with the foods than the work! Haha... I have very faint recollection if it was paired with glutenous rice or something else.

This is the first time I see making rendang with curry powder. And we use turmeric leave not lime leaves

I think you’ll be surprised on how many variations of a rendang there is and yet it’s still called rendang. Each house prepares it differently and this is how we’ve been making it.

My uncle n my late grandma didnt use curry powder too. But they used both lime n tumeric leaves
Yeah just like what mundo said, each family has their own way of making rendang.
