Yet another legendary video from the House of Power. Yes... Superkarting is awesome ... everything you mentioned was spot on. Friendly tip... dump the motor and replace it with an RS125 (Honda). Slightly more horses and a ton more reliable. Then it will be time to put some fibreglass on ... 160km/h produces a fair bit of drag...and change the seat to one with a headrest...safety first ! Really love your work !! Well done.
@@PowerRepublic Hey Des, added to Craig's comment, don't forget to add bigger front brakes and short shifter interrupt to the 6 speed RS125 gearbox. Brucie
Road racing karts is pretty popular in the USA as well. It is a total blast. Additionally to CIK sprint karts and Superkarts, we also have specialized road race karts that are more narrow, longer wheel base with a full body. On some tracks, the "laydown" style enduro karts can reach speeds in excess of 150 MPH with the right engine package. Totally sane. ;)
Hey Jar, thanks heaps for tuning in and watching the vid! agreed, it a f n blast. can't wait till she's all fixed up and I can send it again . stay tuned for an update

Hi, great videos, have learned alot from you, much appreciated. I was wondering if you have any tips for keeping the tyres cool when the temps come up. I use mxj and can justify mxc money at the moment.
Hey Yo, yeah MXC or low volume MXQ are wicked hot conditions. otherwise make sur you are sriving stright without sliding to avoid overheating the rubber
Back in the late 70's, we raced and changed from gas to methanol/Klotz oil, and seized more damn pistons than there are birds migrating south!!! lol Extremely temperamental between rich and LEAN... :)
The 125 Gearbox class have always been part of Superkarting. The modern KZ engine's have really rejuvenated the class and are making serious HP 52+ which say them hit 200kmh at places like that the Bend
KZ 125s as part of a long track tour/schedule sure. But superkarts are meant to be (or at least were) quite a bit different with 250cc/450cc, rack/pinion steering, longer chassis, full bodywork etc. It’s just a bit weird to me, but I guess the term has superkart has expanded.
@@thiswillprobhrt correct but KZ karts fit the rules and are a great way for people to try Superkarts with their existing karts vs spending $$$ on purpose built Superkarts which is the main point of this video. A KZ kart with standard sprint plastics will never be as fast as a dedicated Superkart but that's not the point. Currently Tim Philp is running a KZ chassis with full bodywork and is very competitive against purpose built Superkart Chassis from Anderson etc.
hmm, think he gears down .... if the carb is lean on the idle jets, this could happen easy... combined with rockie mistake of gearing down to soon heading for corner.... or just being of throttle closed quite a few meters ...
I feel like that engine lock was more about lack of lubrication while downshifting cause the engine still spining very fast and the throttle is close do you run premix fuel/oil or is it automix sistem where you put the oil in a container and the fuel alone in the tank ?
@@PowerRepublic nah I don't think you would forget to put oil , but you know in scooters or 2t bikes we push the clutch and wack the throttle a couple time while downshifting / engine braking to make sure the engine gets lubrication , if you look into heavy tuned 2t bikes you will see they ride like that , but here of course you can't clutch while steering cause of traction loose , so I guess the engine shoud be able to tolerate it or have some kind of lubrication sistem independent from throttle position like a automix
Heya Des, I'm running the same Vortex motor as you, but in open class dirt here in NZ. What jetting are you running? I think the previous owner had it jetted completely wrong, possibly even the wrong needle.
geez, not sure if you want my jetting !!! but I had a 175 to start with and a rich float level. when I leaned it out in float and in main jet to 170, she no likey. do you run a lambda sensor in yours ?
Hahaha, maybe the jetting before you seized! Not running lambda, the only monitoring I have is rpm. Might have to improve that. Initial runs, it wouldn't pull over 5k rpm. After a lot of trial (and errors), got it running better until the big end seized. Jetting is K22 needle on 3rd groove, 168 main, 55 pilot, 60 air, air screw 1 turn out. I still don't think it's right
Cool...but that's NOT a Superkart!! I see they're eligable to race at the club, but the 250 International or Division 1, is what most people would consider a Superkart. Twin cylinder, full bodywork, big wings, big speed etc.
yeah agree, 250cc is definitely a Super Kart. the guys at qld superkarts are trying to get people started by using the 'normal' KZ or gearbox karts for newbies
Well I can say the way you learn is by blowing it up a few times , I know myself when you go that fast in your head your thinking God dam this mite be too fast then after a few times out there you get used to it ( ha ha ha ha I don't think so ) I have a TM 125 shifter and a x30 super 175 and I never get used to going that fast because they are fast

Nyloc nuts!, sorry to tell you, but this is absolutely incorrect. Absolute false information given there. You do NOT need nyloc nuts on your wheels to race a Superkart in Australia. We use lock nuts, these are smaller and you will be able to fit a 10mil socket over them to fit in the rim. a Nyloc is to thick and the size socket you need will not fit in the rim to tighten them up. Other than that, great video.

What engine is this, and what’s the reason for 1mm before tdc? This sounds like very little, can you explain this?
It’s a TM and the reason for retarded timing is that the straights are mega long and the pistons melt away as they get too hot 🥵
