  • I love this song - a classic bit of British rock n roll. I'm focussing on the original Johnny Kidd version but it's been much covered by the likes of The Who (on Live at Leeds) and Canadian band The Guess Who. Sterling guitar work from Alan Caddy (rhythm) and Joe Moretti (lead). Music/tab here: www.anyonecanplayguitar.co.uk/...

Fabulous guitar playing - you captured that raw basic style of paying which is much more involved with phrasing than typically believed - you nailed it. Thank you for this tutorial.

One of my favourites. In Australia, it was covered by Normie Rowe & was a huge hit (he still performs it). I only discovered the Johnny Kidd & The Pirate version many years later. Many thanks for the lesson.

One of my favourite solos ever. Perfection. Quite simple when explained by a good teacher. Now I can randomly impress people with it. Thanks again Adrian.

Great to see Adrian bringing up this early classic that's a world class rocker in any category! Joe Moretti was the fretman on this 1960 session.

I heard this song from an old movie and suddenly want to play this iconic song in the 60s. Very well presented. Straight to the points, nothing irrelevant. Thanks for the tutorial.

Many thanks for this great lesson. It's an Iconic song with an iconic solo and you did a great job of taking us through it. I'm with Brian on this 60 years ago it was a real slog to even get anything near what was being played, hours at the turn table of the Dansette record player with the record on repeat play. So once again many thanks.

I've only played this song when requested from memory rather than sat and learned it - everybody always knew the main lick like they did the Peter Gunn one so it was interesting and heartening to see a younger guy reproduce it so exactly.

Ya man! Rock & Roll. From my home town: Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada! My aunt used to baby sit the drummer when he was a kid. This version really rocked the world. Very proud of these guys, and later, Burton Cummings. Have a 45 of his called Blue is the night, by the Devrons circa 1964. I bet i am the only person who still has a copy. You can have it for 100 - English Pounds. Kind regards from the west coast of Canada. Really like your guitar. Have a Jagmaster which will suffice for now. Rock on amigo. - c

Absolutely brilliant lesson, thank you so much!! Really well explained, well filmed and superb sound quality -- even through a mobile phone.
I'm thoroughly enjoying trying this song and I'm using a Squier Jaguar bass rather than a guitar.
FYI -- there's a great article on the history of the song in this month's Classic Rock magazine (May 2019, issue 263, page 20) -- a good read!
