      So true. That rare quality of genuine humility in such a transformative athlete, the paragon of his sport. It's not an act, either. Every interview is the same, deflecting credit and honour to others, minimizing his accomplishments, putting everything into historical perspective. Not sure how anyone could not love this guy.

    There's a difference between being shy and being humble people. I'm reading a lot of annoying comments saying he's shy, he's so shy, blah blah.... Wayne always was and always will be a humble, really kind man people. Also.... Consider the time, and like mentioned perhaps young stars like him just were not used to these kinds of interviews at the time..... Also consider his age being the puppy playing with men a good 4 years older than him. This is just his personality and although he's grown up and bece the best hockey star of all time.... If you even watch his interviews today, he displays a very similar yet perhaps more matured demeanor..... He's not a loud and proud, cocky kind of guy..... Never was never will he.... That's why he truly is "the great one".

Now you aren't allowed to hook or interfere, so it is much easier for a superstar to score. Gretzky would score 200 goals in a year if he played today

  • @LemmingAttack
    @LemmingAttack 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LemmingAttack The skill level of most of the players was much lower than it is today, making the game nice and slow for someone who was so fast and skilled. The hockey being played at Gretzky's time just wasn't ready to deal with Gretzky's skill and speed.
    Also, goalies wore tiny equipment compared to today, as well as the fact that the butterfly style that exists today is so effective at keeping the puck out of the net. Goalies back then were much easier to score on.

If players like crosby and ovechkin played in the 80s they would probably put up some giant numbers too. I'm not saying they would put up Gretzy, gretzky also had the benifit of a great supporting cast, guys like gretzky, lemieux, orr , ovechkin and crosby all had/ have the ability to make their team mates look way better than they are
