Good overall demo Just a few critiques. Make your measurements, mark them with felt tip pin at the inside radius of bends, make all bends at once (keep them in same plane). Make cuts after all bends are made. SOLDER!! Cable ends to antenna connection points. Insulate connections. Check SWR. Use... Note: the connections will oxidize over time and build up high resistance unless they are fluxed and soldered properly. Would strongly suggest mounting the antenna to a short piece of PVC to move the antenna proper just above the metal mount. If someone can afford a radio, they can surely afford a cheap HF soldering iron and solder. All "beginners" in the hobby of radio should learn to solder as a basic skill. No excuses not to learn. If you are going to do something, do it right, beginner or expert.

Pretty cool, but if I could make one suggestion, maybe ask whoever responds, their location, so we can get an idea of the kind of range you're getting. I mean he could be down the block, or 25 miles over in the next town. Just a thought. Keep up the great work.

ya great point, usually its around 70 to 98 miles but the people watching don't know.

@@arizonasadventures8827 WOW, that's great to say the least. Have you ever thought about building a manpack radio using like a Midland 40 or 50 watt radio and a lithium battery? I've been looking to build one, but all I see are people doing it with ham radios. Keep up the great work.

Enjoying your video's,... How much better is this DIY Slim Jim over cheap GMRS Amazon antenna ?

So far so much better especially if you want to rent it on a base unit that’s putting out 50 W

Where did you get this coated steel cable/bar. Testing next to a chain-lenght fence is not as good as if you move it away.

1st.. use rg58 coax.. 2nd,, make a choke out of the rg 58 coax near the feed point , 3 turns 4 cm diameter and 3rd,, mount the antenna as high you can due to the low radiation angle ...8 degrees above the horizon... mount on pvc pipe or on a wooden stick..not metal near the antenna,, you will have perfect results..i think the gain of the antenna is 5-6 db. check swr before use..

Hi, tell me, can I use a 2mm copper wire to build the antenna? or is there a minimum material thickness?

Out of curiosity, what software did you use to figure out the dimensions?

Looking at the diagram, the measurement is taken from the outside of the radius.
