In the scenes where the band members look "cartoony", they are CGI 3D models. They would have scanned the band members whole bodies with a camera and then they would have performed the song in mo-cap suits, because it's a lot easier to get those effects of them dissolving if you just edit a computer generated model then it is to edit camera footage.
When I was still a crazy anime fan back in middle school, Attack on Titan was my favorite anime. Even now, I don’t even like anime very much anymore, but I still LOVE Attack on Titan. That’s how good it is.

The lyrics make a lot of sense. You havent watched Attack on titan thats why it is quite confusing to undertand what the lyrics actually mean. The lyrics are basically what the main character Eren is feeling. It pretty much just sums up his psyche.
