The South Island’s has always had a strong rugby league history & could be the ideal location for a 2nd NRL team. The wahs recruitment would definitely be impacted but having direct competition from a 2nd nz based team in the long run should built an overall stronger more competitive nz rugby league. The rivalry of the North Island vs South Island possibilities are endless. A “origin” style competition & tournaments from school, juniors woman’s & mens through to NRL would have the potential to make nz a genuine heavyweight on the field & at the negotiating table. Be based in Christchurch take games to Dunedin, Nelson, Queenstown, Invercargill etc. build a self sustaining quality player & coaches pool as the long term goal with inter island & Aussie player recruitment to complement on top of that.
4 less players on the pitch. No scrum rubbish. No kicking duels. No scrum bs. No dumb lineout crap. No fat slow players. Better players. No in goal touch down and kick it back. I left Union 15 years back. NRL is 100 times more interesting.
The management at Rugby Australia has been woeful for two decades and has killed a great sport. This weekend the UK Union Premiership played in front of a packed Twickenham while the Challenge Cup took place across town at a half empty Wembley. Union is in insanely good health everywhere else but hopeless here. The NRL has built a better "product" under PvL. It's much better marketed and has across the board coverage. I remember only 5-10 years ago the stadiums were pretty embarrassingly empty at NRL games but PvL has given it a good shot in the arm.
100%. The crowds filling up the square in Toulouse a couple of weekends ago after they won the Champions Cup were insane. As strong as NRL is in Oz, there’s no way any team’s getting a reception like that after a GF win.
Mismanagement by Rugby Australia is a major cause but Union is struggling in a lot of places. In the UK the premiership final does great along with six nations but a number of historic clubs are struggling big time, they've had to sell part of the league to private equity and we lost the Wasps last year for good :( I do think the NRL is better set up for the new generation: faster paced game, more highlight plays, rules are simple etc...
@@jackhamilton5250 yeah I think the main thing is that the NRL has their marketing perfected, they get lots of public exposure out of their free to air broadcaster and they’ve got other revenue sources such as leagues clubs that act as a connector with their community. Quins is the only UK Union club that seems to have done a lot of work on alternative revenue. The NRL went through the same thing in the late 90s as the Prem is now, having to shutter teams that couldn’t support themselves financially. Union is plenty good to watch. Despite the loss of the Wasps - which was by all accounts badly run and moving their home base didn’t help - the Prem final got 82k on the weekend and the League final got 64k. There’s enough of a market for both versions of the game but the marketing for RA is MIA and Australian media salivate over laying the boot in for some reason.
Add a 2nd nz team in churchy and put their feter club in nz and one in the qld cup. Wahs have a team in the nsw cup. For oz fans it’d be like qld v nsw but nz. Can you imagine if one day, the state championship is two nz teams and the nrl gf are 2 nz teams 😂
They are turning to league because rugby is crap the red cards and the tackle laws it’s netball now I have turned to the NRL I will never watch rugby netball again

@stevensmith8876 that's a potentially valid point but I don't think it's true. League is not gaining ground on union because it is faster. NFL is the slowest contact sport in the world but is by far America's most popular, and there are plenty of other sports there they could watch instead if they wanted. Likewise cricket is the second most popular sport on the planet and arguably the slowest sport on the planet. I think union is dying in Australia and NZ because of horrendous administrative and marketing failures. Rugby league was invented and still played in England yet in Europe union is at its most popular, the world cup in France smashed attendance and viewership records. I just don't buy the idea that league is an inherently better game, it's a different game and they're both good. League in Australia and by extension NZ has a fuck load of money to market the sport, union does not

That's why it's a pimple on the world stage 😂
I’ve been trying to watch some league to see what all the hype is about. I get it, I just can’t get into it. Feels very repetitive.
Sad to see you go but contradulations your in the minority and always will be.
Think a chch based side would find it hard getting players to come there.

5-10 years ago crowds were mixed with some great crowds mixed with average and poor yet strong tv product.
Warriors games should be held at Eden park, they'd easily fill the stadium.
Build your own stadium
No thanks. Warriors fans don't want it. Eden park is not a great stadium to watch rectangular sports because of its weird shape
No way, bro Ericsson stadium is home
The home of the winners is little mt smart
@@NZSnipesGamingExactly, Perfect for Cricket but definitely not for Rugby/League
Mark Richardson making no sense as usual
He’s an absolute tosser
Is he the one who said they are not an NZ team because they play in an Aus comp?
Yup that was a weird take.
Only thing he ever said that makes sense is Ian Smith disagrees with him all the time, even when he's ordering lunch

He's only 23, of course he wouldn't be on the same level as Larkham, or Giteau, give him time.
Yep that's why Union can't mutually agree to let Sualii stay in league they need him to draw fans because it is a dead sport in Aus
Luegue famous in Aus
Nope, wants to play in a real world cup.
Aussies think Auckland is too cold. Mate no-one will leave to join a Christchurch team
Hurricanes AAALLLLL DAY MATE
Take our the Aussies in the Warriors team and they bottom 4 again. Montoya, Metcalf, Ford, Egan, AFB, Barnett and Capewell.
And fill it up with Kiwis... JFH for starters
