Maddy, thanks for bringing this song to my attention. As a Vietnam veteran, I appreciate what every veteran who has been a combat zone goes through both abroad and at home. It was less difficult for me in my transition out of the service, but as a person who worked with veterans afterward I felt their pain of lack of respect and acceptance when they returned home. Many of us Vietnam veterans are now late in life, but we do understand what our fellow veterans from other wars go through.
Aussie combat vet 3 weeks ago there was a rock put thru my car window that had my regiment insignia sticker & l actually fought/bled for whoever did it to have the right of free speech. 99% of civilians plain don’t care 🇦🇺🇺🇸
Thanks Maddy, great reaction and such kind words. As a UK veteran myself I find it so difficult to understand that not only in the US but the UK as well there are so many veterans that seem to have been forgotten and are living on the streets. It seems as though once they cease to be useful as a member of the military they’re discarded with little or no support with a multitude of problems both physical and mental. They deserve better.
I missed the calling to join the service, but if I ever hear or see this without shedding a tear or two...just put me down, right then and there...much love to those who served...thank you for watching this. ❤
Thank you for reacting to this Maddy. Keep in mind all the statistics in this video are nine years old and things have only gotten worse. Veteran suicides are no longer 12 per day but 22. My prayers are with each and every one of my brother and sister veterans out there.
This song breaks me every time I hear it. My nephew was a proud Marine, he enlisted when he was 18. When he got home from his 5th deployment in Nov 2015 we got the call he had become one of the “22 a day”. He was 25 years old 😭🇺🇸
easy. stop voting for republicans. problem solved. elect democrats, who will raise taxes on rich people and corporations so we can fully fund the veterans administration. republicans keep defunding veterans programs. not democrats. you can not find a single instance of a democrat advocating for cutting funding to veterans services.
This video and the messages within always, and I mean always, hits me. My best friend is a Veteran. He is an inspiration and a great friend. He luckily survived and is doing well. I don't have a lot of friends and he serves a purpose as someone that I always enjoy getting together with. I'm sure I help him as well with his mental health. Will always support the veterans even though I don't support war.
Another great song about life in the military is Rooster by Alice in Chains. Jerry Cantrell (the guitarist and backup vocalist) wrote this for his father who served in Vietnam. The lyrics were his perception of his fathers experiences out there. Per Jerry's father (when he first heard the song) he said "You got too close - you hit it on the head". He even cried during one of their shows where they played this song. One of the best ballads in grunge history. I'd highly recommend reacting to Rooster if you get the chance.
Brings everything into perspective. We need to do so much better for our vets, and we can. Thank you for reacting to this and bringing attention to it.
@Maddy, this is a very emotional video and still every time I see it, it hits me. Being a Veteran myself. But there are three spots in this video that really hurts. 1. The scene where the Veteran was sitting down and the little girl came over to give him a flower and the mother yanked her away from him like he is some kind of disease. 2. The part where the police officer is hand cuffing the Veteran and then notices that they were in the same company or platoon being that they had the same tat. 3. The end scene where the Veterans are talking and the one Veteran tells the other Hey its me, you saved my life brother.
I can see you are a very empathic person and I praise you for it, there are a lost of people that put on a strong face but need more help than they let on but are too proud to stand up and say it.
Now Veteran is one thing I wish I could have claimed but an injury i recieved in my late teens kept me from that. Appriciate you supporting our vets as well. Always a fan. HOG forever!
Absolutely love your channel, such a fan. Its so nice to see someone like yourself bring light to such a sensitive topic. Active duty Marine here who in the last two years lost the majority of my family as well as my home. Seeing videos like this really keeps my head up to strive for a better tomorrow. Thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart.
Glad to see you reacting to this. This is a huge problem, and unfortunately veterans are a group of people who though they have earned our appreciation and respect, are too often cast aside and forgotten. Everyone should see this video.
As a vet myself, I appreciate you taking the time to spread the word regarding veterans in need. I like "Be the One" from the American Legion. They focus on veterans who are considering taking their own life (can't say the S word).
Young lady, I've seen dozens of reactions to this song. This is the first video of yours I've seen. Throughout this song I didn't watch the music video or listen to the words much. I'm very familiar with them. I watched you. I watched your face, I watched your eyes. Even if you've moved on from how you felt in this moment or these feelings you felt in this moment have faded, it's fine. For a few minutes you let us in and you saw us. You didn't look away, you didn't stop it to compose yourself. You rode this ride to the end. I'm proud of you. What I just saw took courage, an impressive amount of courage. Thank you for seeing us. Even if it was only for these few moments, I don't care. You didn't look away and you let me and my brothers in for a few minutes and that's plenty. At least for me it is. I don't know you and we'll never meet, but one old warrior that fought two wars admires your courage and his old heart is lightened for a few minutes by your courage. I don't say this often and I don't say it lightly, but I will remember you to the gods of my ancestors and I will ask Odin to lend you wisdom, Thor to lend you strength, Freya to show you love and Loki to grant you mirth along your way. Thank you for seeing us, if only for a few minutes.
Maddy....thanks for reacting......i have told this many times ....i am a veteran....Irak 92/93......came home with ptsd.....my parents and friends helped me so much......been in institutions for 2 years....now have a fulltime job....got married not so long ago.....please people....help the one who needs it.... again maddy thank you for supporting the veterans
Thank you, from this combat vet, for doing this reaction. This topic is not talked about enough because its something most people fail at, and feel bad when it's pointed out, but then ignore it again. Keep spreading your message and thanks for supporting us. I also have a reaction channel. You should drop by and check it out.
Had to comeback and rewatch. Happy Thanksgiving young lady. I can tell you that this old vet wishes that it was January and this holiday nightmare was over. Its hard to explain without seeing through my eyes.
your reaction melted my heart.... i was a Firefighter for 17 yrs until i broke my back in a fire..... there was a group of us there at ground zero for 31 days
I can never get through this song without crying. I am the son of a 20 year Canadian veteran that has PTSD. I know the pain families go through and have seen the pain my dad goes through.
Hi Maddy! I'm a 73 year old Vietnam Veteran, and I've seen this video many, many times. I've cried every time! It's a difficult video to watch, but it's a story that needs to be told. FYI... this video is 8 or 9 years old and the numbers they quoted are much higher now. For example, 22 veterans now kill themselves every day, not 12! How you reacted says a lot about who you are as a person. You're a lovely young lady and I appreciate you for who you are and how you support veterans. Take care, be safe, and much love! Peace!
I’m not a combat vet. I was in a nondeployable section: C-Shop but I’ve seen the effects on a person. I’ve been there for them. The vets that need help absolutely need it.
Thank you. This is one of the songs I listen to when I need a good cry, I am from a family with 9 generations of military service members in the U.K and Canada. The most important thing I was taught was to respect those brothers and sisters that paid everything but to remember always that the surviving vets carry just as much damage as the deceased just we can help them recover to the point that they can heal. The fact that we as a society have finally come to accept that PTSD and CPTSD are real. It is a cause and effect psychological issue resulting from inadequate support for the emotional trauma of being in combat and the loss inherent in a situation and experience of this nature, is a huge step forward to actually recognise the price of having a military includes the trauma support necessary to maintain the personnel. (just wished the politicians understood as well unfortunately they are deaf, dumb and blind to anything but cash in their pockets)
As a veteran we lose 24 veterans/active duty a day to suicide. And when we ask for help we are turned away and discarded. The government send billions to other countries, but cannot find it in the budget to help is own service member. (Sorry for the soap box rant.) Thank you sharing this video!
And I have to say are truly beautiful person, mentally, spiritual and physically, shown by your support of veterans. Keep uk the good work, and people will always defend and love you, and yours, you are why we have done this, and will, no matter how thankless or bad, for those who care and understand .
Never a truer word spoken they put rhere lives on the line every day and they come back To this shit a very thoutfull song and a great song. Maddy are you all right you looked Very sad😢❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm a veteran from brazilian army, i went to haiti and some other places in Africa with some UN military to help with many things out there. Mainly to help people without any food and to escape from the civil war. In the midst of it all we had to protect ourselves through the cross-fire.
This is still a hard video for me to watch but I rock the song in my vehicle... pops is a diisabled USAF Vietnam Veteran, I'm Operation Southern Watch / 9-11 disabled USAF Veteran, and my bro is retiring next year USAF 20 year Veteran. This one hits home...
We've been sent overseas for decades, to fight in various wars and "police actions". We've been asked to give or risk our lives for this country. And then we have politicians like the one, trying to justify his vote against further funding for the VA to help vets coming back from the Iraq war and Afghanistan with PTSD, said that we "can't afford entitlements". That's a direct quote. I graduated only 3 years after Nam ended and served near the end of the Cold War. Some of my older relatives came back in a coffin, or never came back at all. Lots of personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan came back in coffins, or came back heavily wounded, physically or mentally, or both. People want to talk big, talk about "supporting the troops", wave flags at parades and wear flags on clothes (against the Flag Code, by the way). But when it comes to ACTUALLY supporting us? To supporting housing assistance for vets, or helping vets find food or jobs, or health care, suddenly it "costs too much" and they "have to balance the budget".
@@MaddyReactions another one that hits too hard for me is gone away by ffdp. Being seen as a ex homeless vet with head issues and spending most of the last decade alone. Been fighting the battle within a long time and I would be lying if I didn't say, I will be happy when it's over. My faith keeps me here, but the life I'm stuck with isn't worth the fight. Just reality. It is what it is.
As a combat vet who also along with so many brothers and sisters suffer from PTSD This hits hard. They train us for war but not how to return home. A lot of us are here but have truly never came back
That 460,000 suffering from PTSD is low...it is much higher. I have too many brothers that have taken their own lives, and a cousin just this last year. Leaving behind broken families...fatherless children. I couldn't reach them, and sometimes feel as if I failed them.
Thanks for watching this video. I'm a Marine combat veteran, I lost 2 brothers while I was in and 3 more to their own hands after we got out. 22 a day. That number haunts me. To all my warrior brothers and sisters out there, we will meet and drink a horn in Valhalla. NEVER FORGOTTEN USMC
Maddy, thanks for bringing this song to my attention. about all the veteran that took part in war all over the place like in the US but the UK as well there are so many veterans so many of them are homeless in both part of world they there who when to take part in there was war in them was after we forgot about them
You know what would really be amazing? If ALL..... Veterans had the same top shelf health care that Congress recieves. Thank you Maddy, for your heart breaking reaction and your heart felt plea, on behave of Veterans. Your tears are justified and will not go unnoticed.... by us.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned the independent artist Nini (NiniMusic on TH-cam) to you before. She plays classical Taiwanese instruments to modern music. She's currently primarily just instrumental but has some vocal tracks. She's also live streaming and playing requests doing "live learns" and she can really rock it out. Her song LongMa just hit 4 million views. She also has a song called Homeland ft. Jayant Bhadula of Bloodywood. MaZu is one of her lyric songs. Just thought you may want to check her out.
The two men at the end served together. The "white man" saved the other man during battle and the "black man" recognized him in that alley and returned the favor. The dude on the ground started cryin because he was ashamed to be seen in such a condition.
Maddy...You're a very caring and beautiful person. I hope you will react to the 60 Minutes interview of Jessica Buchanan as she describes her rescue by Navy Seals. It's a very touching and inspiring story and demonstrates what extraordinary lengths our greatest warriors will go to in order to protect our civilians without asking for anything in return. Thanks for your sincere and often emotional reaction videos. You are a treasure.
this song i you are alive gets you in your feels all of them are treated the same Canada and the USA as people they fought for they should be treated like heroes not bums i have so many friends that our government forgot about it seemed that they used them up and then threw them away like garbage rember theses people gave you the right to choose and not to be dictated to and yes i cry every time i hear this song
if you want a similar video to react to for the upcoming Veteran's Day. Try Five Finger Death's Punches "Gone Away". It is a cover of The Offspring's hit song, but rebranded to see what veterans deal with to end up where they do.
Listen, every single veteran that leaves, goes through ACAP. They teach you and educate you to enroll in the VA. (I did) those that dont and just ignore the class will end up like this. This is 2023 and this country has so many beautiful benefits for veterans. How do i know? I am one. You have to do your part when you leave. Dont act like this is the countries fault when they are doing their oart.
not always true. many national guard/reserve personal just come back and deal with things on their own. I was injured in training, was informed that va would help but never assisted with getting into VA. I had some coworkers who delt with VA and helped give pointers. I'm now considered 100% DV, neck, back, shoulder surgery struggling with depression because of the injuries costing me my job. I am now just dealing with life one day at a time.
As of today, 1 in three homeless men are US military veterans. Well over half a million in 2023 and that number rose by 7.3% this year. Things aren’t really getting better.
To all the vets out there you did not do anything wrong to me you are the guardian angels of this country the Lord ask you to do you have earned your wings

At 6:40 when he says "You know me brother. You saved my life" kills me every time.
Yep. It just takes the breath from me each time.

You know what would really be amazing?
If ALL..... Veterans had the same top shelf health care that Congress recieves.
Thank you Maddy, for your heart breaking reaction and your heart felt plea, on behave of Veterans.
Your tears are justified and will not go unnoticed.... by us.
Gone Away is another great one!
the guy at the end says you saved my life brother. i can never make it through this video
Such a hard hitting video. I see your reaction on the thumbnail and about to watch it
You're doing God's work. Thank you.
The way Vietnam vets were treated should be a crime,my dad was a pilot in the Air Force!!!!
The two men at the end served together. The "white man" saved the other man during battle and the "black man" recognized him in that alley and returned the favor. The dude on the ground started cryin because he was ashamed to be seen in such a condition.
This video wrecked me,,,so much truth!
Awesome job on this one!!
BRCC sends millions of pounds of coffee every year to vets overseas. Also donates millions of dollars to vet organizations. Good tasting coffee too.
Thanks for doing the video.
My pleasure!
This one hits really hard.

"Cutting taxes" for the wealthy has terrible consequences... "Restore taxes" to look after veterans, so many others & restore the American soul.
🌸🌸🌸

gone away and coming down are good songs to
if you want a similar video to react to for the upcoming Veteran's Day.
Things aren’t really getting better.
we are only one step away
the smells of death never leave NEVER
To all the vets out there you did not do anything wrong to me you are the guardian angels of this country the Lord ask you to do you have earned your wings
Great Reaction ❤
