Urg, definitely one of my only real issue with this game : how the verbiage feels confusing. Every item that inflict a status effect reads (for example) "Burn X", it makes complete sense to see cauterize and think it means "when you inflict burn, heal 30".
@@Naelhinn But cauterize doesn't say "when you burn, heal 30", it says "when you GAIN burn, heal 30". It's more of a comprehension mistake in this case imho.
Was triggert like crazy from Rhaps being so exited and building around a synergy that does not exist. Of cuz the wording of the game could be more clear (like "get burned" instead of "gain burn") but the name of the skill should also make clear that it is a defensive trigger.
loving the series, and your wonderful patience in reading and explaining all the mechanics and interactions. One of the few youtubers I can watch play an unfamiliar game and not have to pause every 0.3 seconds to read item descriptions! Always enjoy your content, please keep making it as long as you enjoy doing so!
To note for future reference around 49:00 when you were debating to keep the kukri on board or not. If you look at the pufferfish during the fight, you can see that even with the kukri on board it is shooting constantly, so extra haste triggers are in fact inconsequential as far as pufferfish or aiden goes, for that matter you want to identify what's the least amount of haste triggers you need so you can then pivot the rest of your board to cover your other bases, IMO. The kukri here was actually an insaaane pick up since it hugely benefits from your entire build with only a single small slot. Ah, the one caveat would be freeze builds, if you stack extra haste triggers you are more resilient to disruption stopping your haste triggers.
Yea... I loved that with Eclipse... so it does less dmg, is 3x as big and scales slower then kukri :) Also, i belive kukri was the perfect counter for builds that beat heavy poison: mass shield attack and mass heal. If an enemy has so much healing that he is faster then poison kukri can scale very fast to be bigger then enemys max hp.
Came here to say exactly that -- 8 extra gold per day is far from nothing. Look at the not-aquatic-not-Vanessa-not-poison shiny, sell it and buy a skill or something.
I don’t like playing these types of games myself because of the PvP but I love watching you play it. You do a very good job of explaining everything you know about the game and the decisions you make, so thank you for some really enjoyable content!
Small note on the celestial conduit enchantment. There really was no reason to put it on astrolabe. The astrolabe really doesn't care about being slowed or frozen as it still hastes things regardless. It should've gone on the illusoray as it does the vast majority of your triggers with its 3 multicast. And that bared itself out almost immediately when that Vanessa harpooned your whole board away
Imo, should’ve just kept the diamond kukri for waaaay longer. You were doubting it every other moment, and ended up replacing it with jelly fish, then replacing that with The Eclipse. The Eclipse was basically just your diamond Kukri. But as a large item and it couldn’t crit.
Yeah I don't think he's aware that there's an upper limit to how many times any item can active per second, so he kept trying to boost the puffer fish which didn't do much. And he didn't quite take the time to read cauterize, it says "when you **gain** burn" so he was playing around a synergy that didn't exist. It was quite unfortunate to see, but oh well, he got the win anyways with a bit of luck! XD
Now that I finished the video: did you notice that Cauterize says "When you *gain* burn, heal"? I'm sure it wouldn't have made a difference if you had caught it before, but I couldn't but giggle when you mentioned burn after picking it. Great video! As you've been learning you're following Vanessa more and more: "Next time, less blunder, more plunder!"
Hey @Rhapsody , just wanted to remind you that there's a limit to how many times per second an item can trigger, so at 49:02 when you're considering adding more haste triggers it might be worth noting that the pufferfish and co. was already easily hitting that limit, and the same was just about true at 1:16:40 when you picked up the astrolabe. Something that might be worth remembering and drawing attention to! I'm not even sure you read comments but hey, whatcanyado! XD Fun run to watch, this game has some nuts combos!
I assume you already know this, but there is a limited amount of times things like pufferfish can activate a second. So at some point you were getting more haste triggers than could activate pufferfish a second, meaning all the excess was simply redundancy, only useful if you got frozen or some of your items got destroyed.
12 poison per haste trigger over the course of 3 seconds is about 432 health lost, 14 poison per haste trigger over the course of 3 seconds is about 504 so about a 20% increase for a 14.3% increase in poison applied per trigger, this boost differential is far more extreme when the base damage is lower.
Was the decision to keep Eclipse over Kukri done for purpose of experimentation? I'm fairly convinced Kukri would have given you better scaling. Or is there something I'm missing?
What a shame about the shovel not giving you anything super useful but, it makes sense, vanessas builds are very bootstrapped to work within her item kit, specially aquatic stuff, it would require something insane to get value out of extraneous items. One thing that _would_ have worked, is the astrolabe. With the astrolabe you could have then used puffer fish, astrolabe and aiden (and _maybe_ the stingray but it's probably unnecessary) and pivot your rest of the board to either be synergistic shield items from dooley or something else that was good. so you get 4-5 slots to play around with to cover whatever you feel like you're lacking. One thing I did learn from this is that pufferfish and astrolabe are an insane combo, astrolabe itself is likely basically all the haste you need to trigger pufferfish constantly if you build your board correctly.
my dude, "my own kukuri may not be able to contribute too much this fight" meanwhile your kukuri nearly 1 shots that guy as it scales so absolutely insanely well with you setup, that it breaks anything that your posion stacking cannot break. My man if you take that off later in the vid -.- oh boy xD. If you kept the kukuri with the astralope you would have the best setup. All the wasted enchants could have gone to the kukuri to. It would have scaled to 2k+ dmg every 3 seconds
hey Rhapsody (big fan, following all the way back from your FTL days) have you seen the "card" game Dimensionals? i think you might like it, the raid mode is a brutal rogue lite
What site are you using for the monster information? The one I'm using doesn't give me a damage reference like "x damage every y seconds" like you mention for example at minute 13:45, and that's pretty usefull so I don't have to do the math myself
Cauterize works when enemies burn you, it cauterizes the wound by healing you 30, it doesn't trigger when you burn them.

Thrusters burn both players, so technically you can burn yourself.

It said when you gain burn. Not when you give them burn. Thats how you heal with thaat skill cauterize
That iceberg actually did save you. That armordillo would have oneshot you.. but it stopped the armor buildup
"My own Kukri is unlikely to contribute to this fight..."
*Kukri hits*
"Well, the Kukri did do it!"
What a sequence! ;P

Nice video! And by the way, cauterize triggers when you get burn, not when you burn an eneny. You read it wrong.
An enchanted run for sure. The monster skills and rare drops are always such a treat when they show up.

Once the pufferfish is constantly going, you don't need more haste triggers.
Replacing waterweel was good, but should have happened much sooner.

Shovel, bucket and you. Got a shovel and a bucket, and I'm bringing 'em home to you. *sings*

504/432=1.1667
14/12=1.1667
Unless the enemy has heals to cleanse the poison, it should be proportional, all else being equal.
I don't think any of us will ever run across Nufu and think anything other than: "Nufu sells skills"

There is something imposing about bringing a shovel to a duel to the death.

Interesting bit of hidden info. Solar farm stacks. So if you and enemy is burning its 2 second cast. ;)
Regeneration should directly counter poison the way shield counters burn.
