    Lol! Loved it Steve! I can not tell you how many times I have tried to convince people that cooking of any sort is a “garbage in, garbage out” scenario. If you use crappy booze, you usually get crappy booze. For those of us who have some taste buds, it matters! I am sure that you will enjoy this. I may have to drag out a bit of “something” myself tonight!

    I'm still giggling, oh my goodness I can so relate...and you know the alcohol in the gin will kill anything so no worries about the spoon washing and stick to the story ;) ;) Honest, with hand on my heart I had writen down today to get me sloes and make sloewodka. I've made it a few years ago as I saw it by Ruth Goodman on one of the series Victorian Farm or Edwardian farm one of those, pricking it with needle, adding sugar and wodka and shake it often until all was disolved. It became more of a liquor and I don't mind that one bit : D hehehe.... I'm going to pick some sloes tomorow ( I tend to wait until after some frost nights) and then have some fun coming weeks and a bit more when it's ready to enjoy and I will :D Cheers xo Vleer.

    • @DigwellGreenfingers
      @DigwellGreenfingers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching Vleer! They do say that the sloes are best after a frost but if it's not cold just throw them in the freezer. I prefer Sloe Vodake to Sloe Gin myself (And Sloe Bacardi too!) I think gin is just used because it already has a base of aromatics for Christmas drinks.
      Side note - on the submarines we used to clean the periscope lenses with gin, a great job when you surfaced. A splash on the cloth a mouthful for me, a splash on the cloth a mouthful for me LOL x

      @@DigwellGreenfingers When you put your life on the risk by cleaning periscope lenses you deserve to get some of that gin into you for sure. I think it's alcohol abuse to use it otherwise ;) ;) LOL

      @@valeria1966311 Looking back it was a bit scary Vleer. Hugging one periscope to get to the next in the North Sea bobbing around. Ahhh, now I understand why thy gave us 500ml gin for such a small lens!!!

    OK, so how would you describe the final flavor? Awesome job Steve. I used to freeze elderberries before striping them off the branches. Faster and less messy than picking them off fresh! I always caution folks to stop adding sugar before they think it’s sweet enough. Easier to add a little more later than try to take some out. Some people add sugar in too many steps so they lose the ability to stop adding sweetener when enough is added. Enjoy the gin!

    • @DigwellGreenfingers
      @DigwellGreenfingers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hard to describe the taste really as it is unique. Less intense than sloes and a bit flowery I'd say. But like all flavoured drinks, this will change over time. This one is only 6-7 weeks old so I'm thinking it will deepen in its flavour and be less floral on the nose!

      @@DigwellGreenfingers we used to make Renaissance cordials. Many of them improved with age. We made some with a decent scotch but never got to try it because some kids broke into our house while we were out of town and didn’t ask it all. We figure they’d have some explaining to do to their parents - it was a medicinal recipe using LOTS of cloves and cinnamon. Bet they had a bellyache!
