I see strong red flags insinuating insecurity, fear, envy and jealousy in Miss USA. This woman was trying to alleviate her own fear and jealousy by badmouthing other girls...This woman should not represent USA. American women are not insecure or envious. Don't perpetuate stereotyping which is what you don't want in the first place, right? This woman is just an immature person who has been sheltered and privileged all her life, which can happen to someone of any race. She sounds like a gossipy 12 year old and should never have won Miss USA just because she is articulate. She sounds spoiled. Take issue with a person's character, not their race, and their behavior do not represent an entire race -- because this sort of thing has been done already and it has proven to be divisive whichever way it goes. Trump got elected by white supporters who got tired of being blamed for racial inequality when all they wanted was a job that paid a living wage, etc. Backlash happens when the narrative is reverse racism.

I'm from Vietnam and now American citizen. It is ridiculous to have her represent US. I guess it is hard to judge a character but just it outside beautiful after an 1 hr show even with the final question. They dont speak English well but does Ms. USA speak a second language and have manner. I bet she didnt dare saying that to their face I'm sure.

No. Cambodia and Vietnam are not multilingual. They speak one language and they are the only competitors who speak their own language so they can't communicate with anyone else. That's why she feels bad for them because its isolating and confusing. This is one big misunderstanding.

Not that it's a bad thing she can't speak English well. I think that's where the misunderstanding comes in. She just imitated the way Vietnam smiles and nods not mocked her. PS. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for not speaking fluently and don't feel like you have to speak and write perfectly. Now I know she has not much going on up there and very ignorant. Trying to talk from California when she is from the Midwest. Former Nebraskans, their words - said she is the reason they got out of Nebraska and will never go back.

I appreciate how Miss Vietnam and Miss Cambodia handled the situation. I would love for Miss USA to be disqualified from the Miss Universe competition and voluntarily give up her title (or forced to if needed), yet it will never happen despite the backlash. She knows her horrible behavior is not only tolerated, but accepted culturally as well by the organization, otherwise something would have been outside of a disingenuous apology. She does not represent me as a professional, confident and successful woman, regardless of me being an American.

Ok, I took her comments in a different way if someone would like to calmly explain it to me so I can understand please do. I took the one about how it would be hard as it would be hard because I can’t imagine going somewhere and not speaking any of the languages of the girls competing. She even mentioned that she doesn’t not just speak English no one else speaks her language and that there are other girls who speak other languages then English but no one speaks hers. I don’t really see the problem because I do agree it would be hard if no one spoke the language I spoke. The majority of the girls communicate with English and the pageant is even in English so that’s probably the common one that girls walk up to each other and speak at first when meeting. So I could understand why she would say she doesn’t speak English (as the first thing) but then she goes on to say that not only that she also is the only person speaking her language. Now the other comment about Vietnam, I can see why people would be upset
And there's Miss Colombia... just agreeing with whatever Miss USA and Miss Australia were saying about Miss Cambodia and Miss Vietnam... As if she isn't an EFL speaker too. What a hypocrite.

The pageant was in english. Those who needed a translator received one, except Cambodia. USA was commenting on that fact of how hard that would be. She never made fun of her. However, creating a video where they would make comments on other competitors on social media was not a smart move. It does make them look like gossiping mean girls.
