    Excited to see how this goes- I was watching sven thorgren go over his whole backyard ropetow setup in detail and have been super curious about making one myself! Awesome to see the process documented!.

    Seriously no joke, all my parts have arrived and i was literally planing on bolting together my backyard rope tow tomorrow morning. funny old world.

      @@GoodRoads I needed a lawnmower as well, so I'm doing the redneck rope around the back tire thing. I'll post a video on my mountainboard channel when i'm done. th-cam.com/channels/ivulrUSCAsyTg769hV903A.html

    this reminds me of the wake tow for wake boards even though theres is WAY more complicated. love the video chris keep it rocking.

      I think the winches for wake boarding are actually more complicated. They're way more powerful and they have a clutch right? They're cool machines

    Watching your different board builds, I've been thinking about how all the hiking back uphill must put a damper on the downhill fun, so I've been waiting for this project and I'm excited to see how you tackle the challenge. Thanks!

      It should make it a lot easier to practice since I won't be spending as much energy on the hike, I'm excited about it

    this is so sick! If I had this i'd probably be looking for a way to make it remote controlled with a raspberry pi or something. then you could invite people over but also know that they are not messing with the dial.

      Very interesting idea. Especially since the lower speeds are mostly to make it kid friendly.

    This is great, I made a gas ropetow last year with a 15 hp engine and a similar design as you first mentioned using reduction gears. It has been problematic at times. I would like to try this design next.

    Great build! We built a riding mower tow this year and it's amazing! However, on the shoulder months, we want to catch some of the waning snow on the north side of our property. Where did you source the worm drive?

    Dude! you are my hero! (Okay, 1 of them). I love making stuff out of other stuff. Q: where'd you get your transfer case? BTW: I'm trying to build a "rope tow" that hauls arundo (an invasive species - thing "bamboo") up the side of a hill. My system used a treadmill motor also. The beta test didn't go well, and those present said it was because the motor didn't have the necessary torque. Probably true, but I'm wondering if the power being supplied by a generator (instead of the grid) was also a problem. Thoughts? Anyway, thanks for letting me know where you got your transfer case.

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can wire it up correctly that should work as long as the voltages match

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey dude, check out my latest video on the rope tow. I replaced that whole setup with an inexpensive AC speed controller and a cross bridge rectifier. Much less expensive, much easier, and it works great.

  • @AllSnipe

    You think this motor is strong/fast enough to use as a wakeboard winch? Like to tow yourself from flat ground up a little kicker to hit a rail with some speed?

    • @GoodRoads
      @GoodRoads  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think so. I don't know much about wakeboarding but the resistance in the water is much, much higher than a snowboard sliding on snow or a mountainboard rolling on dirt. The speed on these things is astronomical, but they're not that strong. Maybe one with a higher horsepower?

    • @KapoSBR
      @KapoSBR 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would also guess you need at least 6 hp for that to work
