  • I put up a poll for you guys asking which fast food place in Albuquerque I should review first. Overwhelmingly, you guys chose Blake's Lotaburger. (Although all the Bob's Burgers fans are cropping up in the comments now!) Thanks for all the interaction, y'all.
And yes, I now know I should have ordered the seasoned fries...before I moved to Albuquerque, I'd never ever seen one of these in my life.

Frontier for green chile stew and one of their famous cinnamon rolls. El Bruno, but the original out in Cuba (worth the drive).

Raised on the west side of alb, live in NC now. my wife and I will be going back to alb to visit for a few days. Once a year I have to have Bob's burgers on central (the one and only)and Dion's green chili pizza.

Hello! My name is Mitch, and I very much enjoy your videos. You're quite intelligent and bluntly honest. RESPECT!
I'm a local metal musician, and I used to rent a jam space very near the Blake's location in this video. I would like to mention that there is a thriving metal music scene here in NM, based in Albs. I invite you to attend some local shows here in Albuquerque! I'm not sure if you enjoy the metal genre, but perhaps it can be a new and entertaining experience for you!
Love the videos, love the info, love the the mustache!

Growing up in the 70s and 80s, we had extended family in Silver City, Grant County, Gila Wilderness area. In Silver there was a Blake's, a Sonic was next door. As kids we wanted hamburgers. I suggested Sonics, I'm 8 so what do I know... My Aunt and Mom, in unison No! If we're going fast food we're going to Blake's!!!!
35 years later, I'm stationed at Kirtland AFB in the ABQ area. On my way home from work, tired, hungry, and grumpy. I stop by a Blake's on my way home. Yeah, I had to wait... The burger was hot and cheesy, the Pepsi was cold and large, the fries were crispy. I got home ate, and forgot why I was grumpy!
What really impressed me about Blake's was their bfast Burrito 🌯. Not a little freakin taco.
The Burrito 🌯 was big, filled w/shreddee hasbrowns (my favorite) cheese..., and of course crispy bacon. All you need is one.
While I lived in ABQ, Blake's was always on my rotation. It brought back fond childhood memories in Silver. Caused me to forget my grumpiness. For the price, it was a value.

Patties are not frozen when they hit the grill they have a special refrigerated cooler so they’re thawed... they used to advertise angus beef, been awhile since I’ve seen that advertised. 1000 Island? A lot of places in New Mexico people are going to recommend you try are good places but if you’re expecting an “amazing” meal, you’re probably going to leave disappointed or wondering what the fuss is about (as an outsider).
Blake’s is good, no doubt. Every time I go home, I try to eat there. (Double meat, green chile, cheese, mustard, regular fries, vanilla Dr Pepper). Is it the best burger you’ll ever have? Probably not. Is golden pride the best breakfast burrito you’ll ever have? Probably not. But they’re both good. The list goes on...
A lot of recommendations you’ll get are based on nostalgia. I’m sure this is true of many places but especially of New Mexico. Going to Blake’s with my dad for lunch is one of my earliest memories. I tell people all the time, if you want to taste New Mexico, Blake’s is ONE place to try. I never tell them it’s the best burger they’ll have but it is a very New Mexican staple.
Until you understand that about New Mexico, you’ll never really understand the state. It’s a place of deep traditions and pride. For example, New Mexicans can criticize, make fun of, and complain about New Mexico, but you can’t because you’re not a New Mexican. It’s like a dysfunctional family that fights all the time but still loves each other. Within that family there are different factions both geographically and culturally that have their own twist on being New Mexican. Growing up there, I pretty much considered eastern New Mexico to be Texas and southern New Mexico to only be important for green chile, the Butte and White Sands. (Which isn’t true) Haha!
As New Mexicans, we think our food is amazing, and green chile is king. It is really good and I crave it now that I live out of the state. My freezer is still full of green chile. That’s a must! But with eating New Mexican food, you have to understand, you’re tasting and experiencing a culture, not necessarily the best meal of your life, even though we tell you it is. I don’t think a lot of Americans appreciate that aspect when eating food in the United States. Not in the same manner they would when visiting a place like Italy, for example. And I’m not comparing Italian food and New Mexican food. More the importance the food is to our culture. As Americans we tend to discredit different “American” cultures within our own country.
Anyways... just my two-cents... If you really want to feel like a New Mexican, you have to find a little hut or stand on the side of the road where someone has a big cauldron of boiling oil on a fire and is making fry bread. There used to be place like this on the reservation off the road up to the Jemez. Or go to a matanza. Belen has a big one every year. Drive over to Gallup and eat at Jerry’s Cafe then take your wife shopping for jewelry. You just missed the Gallup Inter Tribal Indian Cermionial which is definitely a unique experience. You need to hike the La Luz trail. The state fair is coming up and that should be an interesting experience for you. Rafting down the Chama. There’s a lot... you just have to eat Golden Pride when you wake up and are on your way to do these things, Blake’s for lunch between experiences, fry bread as your afternoon snack, and your favorite New Mexican restaurant for dinner once the day is done. Then you’ll get it. Haha.

Blake's is better than Whataburger, I agree.
I go for the regular fries, but seasoned are good as well.
should definitely try the onion rings, they have the best imo.
I miss Blake's BBQ sandwiches, sadly they don't sell them anymore.

If you want a really good pizza place here in town, you should try saggios definitely my favorite restaurant here in town. The pizza is delicious but I personally love the subs there more than the pizza.

Odale' brother! Blake's Lota Burger is badass and of course being native New Mexican, I was privileged to grow up with these all around. But, if you want an awesome burger, drive to Bosque Farms (going towards Los Lunas) and try the Benny King Burger from Benny's Burgers! Trust me bro, you'll love it!

A lot of people in Albuquerque will tell you to go to" Bob's burgers" for their green chili burgers and their chili fries. But let me tell you this. It is not better than "Julian's burgers and More"
"Julian's" has the best green chili burgers ever. Also there red and green chili fries are hot and flavorful. I recommend "Julian's".

Frontier (it's the same food as golden pride but more menu options)
Everyone has to go there at least once and get a sweet roll.

Lota Burger 'tis the best! If you get up to Santa Fe you might like Horseman's Haven. Great food including the burger but beware; the green chile is by far the hottest around! If you love really really hot, request a sample of the "Stage 2". True fire!

Hurricans off of Lomas! The breakfasts is the shit! Red chili enchiladas with fried eggs on top with tortillas and coffee 😇
P.S: Golden Pride’s burritos! With a lime coke!

You gotta try El Modelo on 2nd street .... stuffed sopapillia or a chicharron burrito with refried beans and cheese. Or the red enchiladas with two eggs on top.... you'll be hooked!

@@DomesticDabbler Correct. I'll take a stuff sopa from El Modelo, but chicharone wise, NM Beef Jerky co. And the burritos are great too.

@@donnyd7485 I agree the chicharonnes from NM Jerky are great. I actually love NM Jerky we eat there atleast weekly. And Modelo is another of our favorites. But I wouldn't even begin to compare them beyond the chicharonnes. Everything is so different.

Ya gotta try SAGGIOS PIZZA ....with some roasted green chili added to your toppings.......also i remember blakes lotaburger being way better as a kid, it was way better bigger thicker patties and tons of french fries with plenty of salt kinda like steak fries and also you can request grilled onions and have the buns toasted a bit......
