JUST LOOK AT REPORT on INDIA. Check timing and who initiated it. That is who you should do your bitching with? NOT CANADA but ?
Fernand de Varennes, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues, has termed the status of the “deteriorating” rights situation in India as “massive, systematic and dangerous”.
In his opening remarks at a hearing on policy options for advancing religious freedom in India, organised by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) in Washington DC on September 20, 2023, De Varennes said that “India risks becoming one of the world’s main generators of instability, atrocities and violence, because of the massive scale and gravity of the violations and abuses targeting mainly religious and other minorities such as Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and others. It is not just individual or local, it is systematic and a reflection of religious nationalism.....
He spoke of how “in the last decade, issued numerous communications and press releases, communications being way allegations of human rights violations raised through diplomatic channels to the concerned governments. They show a steady and alarming erosion of fundamental rights, particularly for religious and other minorities from the review of communications from 2011 to now: By 2022, almost all of them involve grave allegations of denial of fundamental rights, particularly targeting religious minorities. From 12 May 2020 to 23 May 2023, around 46 communications and an estimated 20 press releases

For example, India's demographic is way better than China... in 2024, Chin's birth rate is 1.1.... that means no matter how fabulous our future is... there will be 0 Chinese left in 100 years ... but of course, there is something to revert this... like force people to marry and have two+ kids, or you don't need to worry about anything just go and have kids with whoever you want...

There is one major reason why India cannot become the next China and that is in its leadership.
Everyone is horrified at what Mao did in China. He essentially wiped out the ruling class and millions died. So many of his nationwide policies, like the Great Leap Forward, were deemed failures, but his failures affected everyone in the country.
However, Mao wiped the slate clean and China has had generations now of new leaders who can write their own ideas onto a clean slate.
That’s not India. Many of India’s ruling class are the same as the people that helped the British rule India. India has retained its ruling class. There’s not much change. Look at the great divide between rich and poor. What is happening to the poor in India is heartbreaking. Yet pretty much of the same ruling mentality remains, but it’s now called “democracy”.
There’s a second reason why India will not be able to overtake China. Look at the way the two countries treat foreign investment. Apple, for example, has been overwhelmingly successful in China (actually it’s Foxconn, Apple’s Taiwan based contractor, that has been successful). Foxconn pretty much ran sweatshops. Yet the average Chinese worker did his best for all the foreigner investors. It was a win-win situation. The foreign investors made a lot of money ( look at how wealthy Apple is), and the Chinese learnt modern manufacturing and also had a means to provide for their families. Additionally, the Chinese government put its “profits” into improving the country, building housing and infrastructure while also investing in R&D.
India’s treatment of foreign investors hasn’t changed. What India wants is not investment but a transfer of technology. It does this by requiring an Indian company-foreign investor partnership. After the foreign investor has been in India for a sufficient amount of time- built a factory, trained workers, paid taxes, what does the foreign investor find? He basically can’t take what profits he makes out of India. The Indian government imposes additional taxes, assesses “fines” and uses other means to keep whatever profits are made in India. For this reason - taking Foxconn again as example - Foxconn, after investing billions in India, has withdrawn from India. For this reason, about 3,000 foreign companies have left India in the last few years. It’s not a win-win situation.
This is just my take on the India vs China discussion.
It’s the same rapacious mentality as the British had, to squeeze everything they could out of the jewel in their string of colonies, even exporting food from a starving India. In the same way, India is squeezing everything it can out of its foreign investors.

    Your are right, so many problems with India to compete with China in current scenario ;
    1. Infrastructure in India is around 30-40 years behind than China in all aspect, which is playing pivotal role goods transportation, so it will take decades for India to catch up. Just imagine that China used more cement just in 2013-14 than it was used entire century in US.
    2. The technical labor force is not easily available so it will take at least 10-15 years to reach the basic requirements, and also women participation is very low as compared to China.
    3. China has a very stable govt with no opposition, so, policies are consistent and long term while there are so many political parties in India and ruling different provinces so very difficult on mutual consensuses.
    4. There are so many Economic zones in China which were started to developed around 40 years back, and now there are many economic zones, so different cities are famous for different products and more economic zones are being develop, which is not seen in India.
    5. BRI is linked with more than 150 countries, which means billions of projects are underway and some are already giving benefits to the economy, but best yet to come.
    6. Chinese companies are busy all over the world in infrastructure development, 5G, Telecom sector, Railways, dams, motorways, electronics. All top and most expensive infrastructures are being developed by Chinese companies, India is not 70 yrs behind.
    7. 80% of world electronics are made in China, so it will take years to replace, and by that time Chinese mobile companies will be everywhere and apple is expected to go down. 85% of Iphones are made in China, some of it can be shifted to other, but not all.
    8. China is leading 5G, AI, Drones, solar energy, wind energy, electric vehicles, electronics, space technology, high speed rail, nanotechnology, agriculture, batteries, etc, while India is far behind.
    9. For the first time in history there more Chinese universities than US universities in world top 2000 universities, and this number increased dramatically in last 5 years, while India is so behind.
    10. China is mostly self-sufficient while India is depending on outer world for many things.
These are some examples and overall, still many fields where India is very behind, and there is no field except population where India can cross China in coming years.

    • @EnchantedScroll

Corruption is not the real cause of underdevelopment (sure, it has an effect, but not to the extent people believe). Proof of that is the fact that China has had a corruption problem as well; in just the last decade Xi Xinping had an extensive crackdown on corruption across all levels of the government. Every country in the world including the US, UK, and other developed nations face major corruption issues.
The real problem is the economic system of India and the colonial nature of capitalism (rich countries thrive on poor countries, which is why US kept Africa purposely underdeveloped.. how else will they get their "cheap" resources). In 1949, China had a revolution and chose a socialist route. While in 1947, India got independence and chose a capitalist route. We can see the differences in outcome today.. as clear as day.

    • @EnchantedScroll
      @EnchantedScroll ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@gohsiewhau4819 You are correct on that. I am not saying India/US are doing the same.
In India and US, government officials at the high level don't have much incentive to take action against corruption. Because they all benefit from it and the system is designed to cater to the capitalist ruling class. So policies that are enacted turn out to first enrich the already rich and the demands of the majority are ignored or given last priority.
In China, the tables are turned. After the revolution in 1949, the working class came to power and since then they have managed to maintain power over the capitalist class, even if there were some that were corrupt among their ranks (that's why I am saying corruption is not the core issue). Since China's government doesn't care much about enriching capitalists, the government uses democratic mechanisms to figure out a 5-year plan and politicians have to actually go on the ground and do real work (eg. CPC members lived in rural areas for 1-3 years at a time to understand their local problems and figure out ways to help them rise out of poverty).

Well, a lot of people think that if a country is a large market with a huge population then you will become the next China.
For example, India followed by Indonesia then Nigeria and even Philippines, Bangladesh and Mexico could be the next trillion dollar economy due to their sheer poplulation and market size.

    5) China invested in Africa far earlier than India. The only reason India invested in Africa is to "counter" China. Why? China invested in Africa when they're poor, India don't.

Our Indian media like to spread lies that "India" had existed harmoniously with Tibet not China for ages. Nonsense, there was no "India" before British India. It is far more correct to say the creation of "India" was nothing but trouble. For thousands of years, China co-existed peacefully with the different nations south of the Himalayas. For example, Lord Buddha from the Newars of Kathmandu Valley in present-day Nepal was revered by the Chinese. There was never any border problems. The British Imperialists arrived to change all that by giving birth to this devious "India" that has every intention of subjugating every other nation that still exists on the Indian subcontinent, and even want more. These are predatory traits inherited from criminal Father England.

We are more concerned about India's environmental health and all kinds of interesting people and food on the streets of India. Chinese people have no malice towards Indians. We just think your culture is very interesting. China and India are both Asian countries. Haven't you found that the contradictions between our two governments are basically caused by Western countries? We should unite rather than fight.

The real reason is China had a revolution. Under Mao, all the conditions for attracting Western investment were there. Infrastructure, education, healthcare and the fact that the CPC has political power and did not privatise the commanding heights of its economy. It leaves much of the consumer goods to the private sector. Therefore, it can guide investment where it’s needed. The neoliberal model followed by India can only go so far and it’s economy is much more subject to the vagaries and pressures of an unstable market, especially since it has a large comprador capitalist class which is extremely politically unreliable and easy to manipulate by foreign powers (US)!

In 1980, the average length of education for Chinese people was 4.2 years, lower than that of Ghana, Africa. My parents' generation were basically semi-literate.During Mao's era, cadres could stay in the cadre ward when they got sick, while farmers relied on fake doctors to wait until they died.
In 1980, the average life expectancy of Chinese people was only 57 years.
In 1976, China's per capita consumption of meat and eggs was lower than in 1954.

India only began market economic reforms in 1992. Before that, it had adopted the Soviet Union's centrally planned economic system. India did not allow railways to purchase rails from private steel companies until 2017.
Until now, India is still blocking large supermarket businessmen from investing in India.
It can be said that India today still retains a large amount of the legacy of the Soviet-style bureaucratic command economy. (also known as planned economy)
Although China also has Soviet-style bureaucratic enterprises such as FAW, Dongfeng and BAIC that are obstructing the country's further development.
But at least China's market-oriented reforms are much more thorough than India's.
India still views all foreign investors as alien colonizers. (These colonists came to rob Indian property). But the Chinese have no such mentality at all.

"There's a confusion about China, the popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labour cost. I'm not sure what part of China they go to, but the truth is, China stopped being the low-labour-cost-country many years ago. That is not the reason to come to China from a supply point of view. The reason is because of the skill and the quantity of skill in one location and the type of skill it is. The products we do, really require advance tooling and the precision that you have to have. The tooling and working with the materials that we do are state of the art. The tooling skill is very deep in China. In the US, you could have a meeting with tooling engineers and I'm not sure if we could fill the room, even worse in Vietnam and India.
In China, you could fill multiple football fields.."
