Man, this made me love Zeke way more than I already did. Y'all know about my appreciation for Amalthus already lol
I love Xenoblade 2. I love that the only thing that made Rex the true #ChosenOne wasn't being born with special blood or being given the special sword- it was proving that unconditional love still exists. Rex isn't the only good boy in Alrest, but the new driver of the Aegis was not like Addam, and definitely not like Amalthus. Two people who wanted to save the world, but lost the ability to empathize in the process. Amalthus is definitely one of my favorite villains.
Well said, one of my favorites lines of his was in one of the scenes I mentioned in this video but he says "Salvagers pick up more than just artifacts. I'm not daft, I know fine words alone won't change reality." And it's true, he's a good person and positive but he's not naive or blind to the real world. That's why he's taking these big steps where others won't. These other governments scrambling for power and resources without truly having a solution and wasting time, so he places his bets on the one place people refuse to go even when there's realistically no other way to turn. Maybe Rex having a shorter life span for sure helped him move more steadfastly, but him and Amalthus are still very alike but significantly different. And like you say, Rex wasn't like Addam and he couldn't be, it wasn't what the world needed, there was more push to be made

@@aaronferno9881 I think he's still the same optimistic guy, he just grew to be more protective. He'd rather take all the responsibility himself if it means making the people he cares about safer.
Even Mythra and Adam suspected the truth about Amalthus the entire time too.
Up until the final moments, I thought Amalthus would be an irredeemable and contemptible villain, but the scenes you talked about in this video actually changed that perception. What he did was unforgivable, but I also felt for him. I was sad that he had to die. And that's the mark of a great sympathetic villain. Getting what they deserved but also knowing that they could've been good had they made better choices.
Glad I was able to change your perception some, I have a high opinion of Amalthus and Zeke thanks to these scenes and like I talk about I think they mean a lot to the game's narrative. And you put it well, he got what he deserved but he could've been the chosen one had he played his cards right (also nice Amadeus pfp)
@@MetaSF_ I already felt this way about Amalthus when I beat the game. This video is moreso confirmation of my feelings lol. Amalthus is one of the best religious villains. Too many of them are one dimensional.
@@ShallBePurified ooooh I see, well then glad to see another that already had openmindedness for a character like Amalthus, yea media tends to make religious villains pretty one note and just leaves a bad taste but Amalthus is much deeper than just that so it was a nice to have one be an actual character instead of just some subliminal message of the creator lol
Zeke, Minoth, the entire Torna crew (including Nia tho she left the group) and Morag all knew/suspected the truth about Amalthus the entire time.
Definitely were aided in those suspicions after Jin brought up to them about Indol having a monopoly on the Core Crystals, a very easy thing to miss if people of Alrest just think "that's just how things are"

Amalthus was also secretly ruining the crystal cores with his ceremony, saying it helps, but what it really does is stop blades from evolving...leading to the end of the titans and the world ending
That's actually a very strong point I didn't talk about, so not just figuratively preventing them from evolving like as a culture, but literally

Amalthus is a underrated, epic villain. Him being revealed to be the real villain of the game is the definition of a absolutely perfect plot twist.
Actually not, Amalthus reeks of villainess the first time I see him. I can tell he is the hidden mastermind.
Underrated for sure, I know people feel Jin and Malos outshine him but man hes really my favorite of the 3 even moreso cause of his FOIL to Rex. Jin still comes super close though

When Rex sensed Malos from Amalthus, I actually thought that was Malos in a disguise the first time I ever played Xenoblade 2!
I thought somthing similar but to me I was thinking Malos was controlling Amalthus like Egil was with Gadolt, cause Shulk had a similar static phasing vision of Egil for Gadolt that Rex had for Malos on Amalthus
Wow, I have to say, this is some great interpretation of just a few cutscenes of the game. Y'know there's another connection in the terms of how Rex and Amalthus are foils to one another, remeber back in one of the final cutscenes when Malos and Rex wondered how things would be different had Rex awakened Malos and not Amalthus. Would Zeke still feel the same towards Amalthus and/or Rex if Malos was awakened by Rex's optimism and positivity? How would Amalthus's answer change if he woke up Pnuema instead of Malos, especially given the fact what happened 500 years ago.
Anyway, great video as always. I can't wait for the next analysis if this was an analysis.
I do remember, and now that you bring it up, that's definitely some interesting thoughts, I really wonder how Mythra would've turned out with Amalthus, or rather how Amalthus would've turned out having Mythra. As far as Zeke, like I say in the video he's not dumb so I feel he probably would've still tried and tested them both out to really see where they stand but at the same time if he suspected Amalthus even a little, he may not have felt the need to test Rex if Amalthus had Mythra in the first place. He might've been a bit more "trusting" to say the least, maybe less skeptical is better to call it. But I'm glad you liked the video and now that I think about it it is an analysis of sorts lol, will definitely be doing more analysis' similar to this and differently in the future

I feel like Amalthus would have hated Moebius (same with the Torna crew) because they all predicted the Moebius mentality.
You know I think you're right, even though Rex said Amalthus was the person who didnt wan.lna change, I disagree with that. He changed more than almost everyone just in a bad direction, all for getting rid of the world. All Moebius wanted was to stay stagnant, so he really probably would hate Moebius 🤔
