Thanks for the info Matt. I help maintain the ground for the Michigan Reining Horse Association and I’m always studying info from others on how to help keep things safe (and competitive) for our shows.
Hi again MATT I've been a bit surprised along the way that some don't even consider that! Regardless what discipline legs and hooves have to be one of the top most important considerations always. No legs no hooves no horse... Pointing out the importance of going passed the top cover to the base takes it to the next level that some checking that top cover don't check further. Excellent tip to bring to people's attention. Thx as always for helping both the people but in the end mostly the horses!
Thank you for the wonderful info! I’ll definitely check for this in the arena at the barn my boy will be boarding at to see it I’ll be able to start getting him the basics of reigning down (I want him to be more of an all around western horse, not aiming for stellar in anything but I feel like ranch riding and reigning would be the big two in western that can help improve the horse other western events)
Quick question.. we are currently building a new arena. We built basically a building pad with a solid base underneath. How many inches of sand do you recommend? 3-4”? Thanks!
Hey Matt, Can you run a horse barefoot? We saw Olympic riders going without shoes, and I was curious if you have ever showed a horse barefoot? Or do they need sliding plates? Can they slide without them, or isn't it as good? Have you had a show horse that just doesn't do well in shoes? Thanks
Anna, it’s actually impossible to slide barefoot, horse can only stop couple feet when he doesn’t have shoes on. You can ride barefoot on the front but not on the back. Sliders are long and really smooth witch allows the horse to slide.
Equine Advantage is awesome.
Always checking the ground is important for all horse disciplines.
Cool Roscoe.
Nice tip of the week Matt! Could you talk about do's and dont's when training on grassy grounds. Thanks!
Great tip Mr. Mills

Great comparison using the skier going down a mountain!
is sand footing okay if it has a good base to it?

Gday mate how come sometimes you have a back girth and sometimes you don’t is it depending on the horse or saddle fitment
Noticed the boots, what kind do you like ? What sort of heel ?
Preach!!!!
