I've found that quite often when I respectfully walk away I tend to get another counter offer before I am out of ear shot. Like you say, haggling is an art. I think personally for me the key to getting good deals is to show a bit of interest but not that it is a deep thing for you. You need to seem like you can easily walk away you just kind of seem interested. It works the best for me.
I bet that coin show was lots of fun! Great additions with that Canadian and US commemorative half dollars and the Leif which has been on my bucket list for a while! Well done!
People using Ebay pricing are not including multiple factors: 1) Is the price asking or sold price as the dealer mentioned in the video 2) Does the price have additional shipping charges 3) Don't forget sales tax 4) It doesn't factor in the value add of being able to not only see the actual item in hand, but also taking it home that day versus waiting days or longer for it to arrive 5) There is also value to cash and carry Obviously, there is value to the dealer to sell at a show - no Ebay or Paypal fees, no worries of lost packages or bogus claims by unscrupulous buyers, etc. So this has to work both ways.
Hi. Spectacular, nice group, Glad to see you got a few more Commemoratives. The older designs are my favorites, especially the 1794/1795 Flowing Hair pieces. I bought a lower grade 1795 half when ai was young, 11-12 years old for $30-$50 , A good investment ,over 65 years ago. Upgraded to a better condition a few years ago, now I have both. Thanks, Bill
Be polite, stay out if other people's deals. If your gonna set for long periods of time and go thru dealers books and bins , buy something. Even if it's a couple bucks. Haggle but don't argue. And always ask before grabbing, oh and don't walk away with something even to ask a buddy, call them over. Keeps hands and coins you are looking at in plain site. Have fun! Number one rule. You will learn something guaranteed.

Its been a long time when I was able to go a show! But everytime I did go, all the dealers are so informative... they want to pass on the knowledge they have! It is there passion! Besides the more we all learn the better negotiators we can be. That's when it becomes more fun! 🇺🇸👍

I love coin shows, try to go to them when they pop up. Went to one this weekend and picked up a couple 19th century proofs in pcgs with CAC stickers. A 1883 or PR 64 quarter and a 1882 PR 64 nickel. Love the treasures they have to sell. Thanks for the show report spegtacular 👍
Man this was a great video. You took some really good shots at the coin show. I very much enjoyed. I had no idea there was a 2008 Eagle with an 07 reverse. That one dealer selling the 2020-w end of WW2 gold coin for $3000 was insane though lol. I was like what?! Nice commems! I love ship coins too

As a coin collecter been to hundreds of shows number one rule never buy a coin with a hole in ,and never ever pay asking price ,there's always wiggle room 🤔
The biggest thing to conscience of is to be respectful. If you respect the dealers they will (mostly) respect you. I've seen dealers who are jerks just like anyone can be a jerk but for the most part they're decent and even nice to you if you are respectful to them.

One part of etiquette that you always practice and have mentioned before but I appreciate in your videos is asking permission to look at and pick up someone’s coin. It is very courteous and demonstrates treating someone with respect.
Beautiful pick ups speg. Nice info on how to behave at a show or lcs for that matter. I picked up a 5oz Armenia Noah's ark coin on ebay for $145 shipped $29 a ounce from a seller who was not a silver seller just happen to have a couple silver pieces. Had some toning but overall a beautiful coin.
I actually never have been to a coin show. Maybe I’ll go one day. Nice pickups you animal! As for etiquette, I’d imagine busting out a Sigma and verifying coins in front of a dealer would be rude.

But I’ve literally seen two coins side-by-side one worth $11 and the other one worth $140 and to me they look almost identical. Open to any suggestions
Nice pick ups, all coins i have, guess we have good taste. I bought that maple leaf solo also without the eagle. Love the commems with ships, just got a really nice Long Island at a coin show last month to replace the banged up one I had prior. Leif Ericson set I bought last year when LCS had one in, not my usual cup of tea with modern commems but that set was hard to resist. Got it with the Icelandic coin that came with it also
18:49 and 19:54 The halfpenny in England when I was a kid had a sailing ship on it and I do agree they make beautiful designs. Not as gorgeous as the ones on the coins you showed but still nice. If course those halfpennies were copper. The ship looks better on a silver coin but I do have a 1951 Proof Halfpenny that has killer tab type toning. Common coin but so pretty.

Ask your local coin shops and use google to identify upcoming coin shows in your area. Often times they’ll give you websites or contact info with the show hosts so that you can confirm the show.
Great Video! I was eyeing the newer commemratives for $25.00 each...They had about 15 I think, If you bought all of them and could sweet talk them down to $22.00 or $23.00, you would be getting a very low mintage, mostly proof, U.S. Mint issued coin for very little over melt. Melt is $20.21 as I type. No body likes them, but they are a real value, everything considered. I buy the gold sets off of E-Bay and often can buy for just a little over the melt price of the gold.
Wish I had gone to the show. I will catch it next time. Do you know if the Hernando county coin club will be putting on a show at the Catholic church this year? It was canceled last year.
18:47 and 20:35 Do you have any opinions or videos about different grading services and holders / years of slabbing? Like there are some strict grades on green PCGS slabs. Not always but sometimes those coins look nicer than the grade. Some earlyish NGC slabs I have - not so much!
Great video Speg!! Love how you touched on etiquette. Nothing worse than poor etiquette in general, but especially at a coin show. Top 1 for me. - Do not interrupt the conversation between the dealer and another buyer. Wait until you are acknowledged.
As a dealer (in other collectibles - not coins), I highly appreciate a possible customer waiting their turn until I am done with the present customer...especially IF we are close to making a deal.
Please pump and hype the classic commem coins. I am down on most of these. But it would be nice to see these neglected US coins get the recognition that is deserved.
I would ask the dealer if he wants to advertise his shop. Let them explain their products, full time or part time etc.....views would increase and you would help the hobby.

I went to my first coin show the other day. I went in with x amount of money and a list i spent all the money and didn't get a single thing on the list lol but thats ok because i got some amazing coins. Definitely seen some awsome things you only see at coin shows. I've never seen a 5oz gold bar in real life but this guy had 5 or 6 of them in his box 🤯
Great video and coin etiquette is common sense and goes both ways. As a collector I've been passed up by table dealers probably because I look like "lower class collecting ruffian!" One-time there was two tables that happened to have the same certified Morgan dollar I was looking for. Table one dealer was clearly ignoring me then immediately gets off his butt to help this other guy in slacks, collar shirt, and a tie. I was clearly standing there waiting to see this 1904 P MS63 dollar he had. So, I mentioned I was before this guy and he actually had the balls to tell me most of his coins I couldn't afford! I walked 4 feet over to table 2 dealer and he had the same 1904P in MS63. So, I pulled out and waved my 5K wad of Franklins making the purchase while laughing at and making direct eye contact with this moron at table 1. I then went on to purchase 2K more in certified silver dollars from table 2! What is even better, tie guy didn't buy anything! Coin show etiquette...it goes both ways!
What dealers lack to understand is that, "Yesterday's Price is not Today's Price". Prices fluctuate on a daily basis..They need to get with the times...
I went to a coin show here in Salt Lake City. I found a good size roll of cash in the parking lot. I asked if they had a lost and found thy said no. I said oh well I found this. They didn't want to take it. I said its not mine someone will be looking for it. They took it don't know what happened to it.

Just one thing to add. If you’re looking for something, ask. Most dealers have more inventory behind them in boxes then they do on their tables.

Great video and coin etiquette is common sense and goes both ways. As a collector I've been passed up by table dealers probably because I look like "lower class collecting ruffian!" One-time there was two tables that happened to have the same certified Morgan dollar I was looking for. Table one dealer was clearly ignoring me then immediately gets off his butt to help this other guy in slacks, collar shirt, and a tie. I was clearly standing there waiting to see this 1904 P MS63 dollar he had. So, I mentioned I was before this guy and he actually had the balls to tell me most of his coins I couldn't afford! I walked 4 feet over to table 2 dealer and he had the same 1904P in MS63. So, I pulled out and waved my 5K wad of Franklins making the purchase while laughing at and making direct eye contact with this moron at table 1. I then went on to purchase 2K more in certified silver dollars from table 2! What is even better, tie guy didn't buy anything! Coin show etiquette...it goes both ways!
What dealers lack to understand is that, "Yesterday's Price is not Today's Price". Prices fluctuate on a daily basis..They need to get with the times...
I went to a coin show here in Salt Lake City. I found a good size roll of cash in the parking lot. I asked if they had a lost and found thy said no. I said oh well I found this. They didn't want to take it. I said its not mine someone will be looking for it. They took it don't know what happened to it.
More than likely. That money went to buy some beautiful coin over there
