Looks good but this and the Mefadrives sequel both pale in comparison to the Megadrive original. Rocket knight adventures is one of my top five 16 bit games of all time.
I think it was a clever use of Mode 7; most games used it to either rotate the background, simulate sprite scaling, or create a faux-3D effect, so this is probably the more unique and impressive way someone used it.

Sure it isn't as good and creative as the original RKA on MegaDrive but this is still a very solid followup for the Super NES. It retains much of the speed and charm of the original.
If Konami had did another game in the vein of RKA, people would've bitched, because Konami would've done "more of the same". Once you do something unique and creative, kind of hard to follow up with something different for the series.
I didn't know this furry game existed in SNES. It's like a mix of legend of zelda, megaman x, rayman, sonic, king of dragons, gunbird, 1942, and a reverse ghouls n' ghosts (enemies get disrobed too) with firebrand
Completely different people. You can compare the credits, not to mention that Gunstar Heroes was released in 1993 while Sparkster for SNES was released in 1994
Except that on snes: 1.it's not funny 2.you don't feel like being on an adventure since the stages aren't linked and are just randomly put one after another 3.the shoot-them-up phase was slow and the giant robot fight incredibly lame (same for Sparkster genesis and its horrible mechas) 4.the Pig Star on RKA was just cooler, and it was also cooler that the final boss wasn't the King, and that the man-to-man battle with Axle Gear was almost at the end. Ok, the snes version is more beautiful (94), but that's it, I felt like it was just a lame version of RKA, a sad copy. Sparkster genesis isn't as good as RKA too, but i still prefer this one because it had its own ideas and because of how nervous is the gameplay.
dude, wtf, the only stage is random its the musical one, also the robot and shoot em up segments in rka always were kind of meh (Especially the robot) and the axle gear battle in rka its a joke because the stupid AI the only real problem whit this game its the rocket, its too fucking fast
@@xenotypos The stages make sense, and pretty much lead into one another. Even the musical stage, as you land in it after the mechanical bird throws you off at the end of stage 3. You just didn't pay any attention at all it seems. A lot of other games didn't have stages that linked to one another, and for those of us who grew up either long before (myself), or right around this era didn't give two shits, we just played these games, and loved them.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP fine, i agree that graphics are better, but i thought controls were almost same that i didn't have any problems to control in both games. The reason why i don't like sparkster as much as RKA is that there are too many annoying traps in the most levels, which bothers me to enjoy high speed action game. In RKA i can just boost my rockets without risk except in some trap rooms, but in sperkster using rockets to progress levels makes me to lose health, constantly bound to opposite direction,or even get a insta-death. also the Continuity of rocket in sperkster is too short that spining is almost useless. in RKA spining was really useful especially in boss battles.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP looks like you are out of topic and mismemorized. We are compareing RKA with snes version of sperkster, not the mediocore genesis version (which you can't charge the rocket manually) as well as other genesis games. Don't change the topic to useless 16-bit console war. It was over 20 years ago. It's true that The shoulder buttens in SNES version looks cool and useful to charge another rocket in mid air when i get used on it. But, it made the control quite complex that it felt like they were forgot their objective - making a mascot game of konami. Do you remember how simple and easy mario game's control was ?
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP i mean the control is simple, not the difficulty itself. I don't want to have a disscussion with you anymore. your answer is always "nintendo is better everything else is shit".
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP hell no, i like some great nintendo games as well. And i couldn't even owned any sega consoles at that time and only enjoyed them by emulators. I have a nes clone, nintendo ds i with some game cartridges now.
Honestly, and without giving offense to someone, but for me Rocket Knight/Sparkster is a much better character than the overrated Sonic, even his games seems much more dynamic and fun, not only because they are also fast action, but also because he is a more dynamic character, with better playable mechanics, and who also allows to have a better sense of exploration, something that does not happen with Sonic. I'm not saying that Sonic games are bad, no, but they simply can't offer me the sense of pleasure and comfort that Rocket Knight/Sparkster games do.
These games are vastly underappreciated and significantly better designed than any Sonic game. They offer a superior sense of speed without sacrificing solid play mechanics and level design. Although the original Sonic has an undeniable timeless character design so I won't knock that. Sparkster deserved better.
Awesome game on snes almost as good as rka, Sega version of the sequel was terrible compared to this, was almost like a master system game by comparison.
Konami did that a lot during the 16 bit erqa, maybe to try and get kids to have their parents buy both consoles, so that they could buy copies of both games for two different experiences. Hell they got me, but not until years later after the Genesis was cheaper to buy (I have had my SNES since 1991), and the games had gotten significantly cheaper, and before their prices came up again. The TMNT games, both belt scrollers, and fighting games, both Sunset Riders, both Lethal Ebnforcers 1 (and the Genesis sequel, as well as RKA), both Tiny Toons platformers, both Tiny Toons sports games, and both versions of Animaniacs.
Sparkster a knight blue hero like do then she got her kidnapped the princess more want my destiny just when as light been by villains very rocket moment rather find your save the world to rescue.
I've noticed a few accounts that type gibberish like this on WoL videos, guess they must be bots or something as all their posts seem like basic gibberish.
The blast into space at 36:45 is an absolute masterpiece. That transition is so good, the way the music comes in.. it blows me away every time.
One of the SNES' most underrated platformers, IMO.
Sparkster for the Mega Drive was fun, but this looks so much more like the sequel to RKA
This game is like a mix between sonic, mega man x and king of dragons
Pretty much nailed it!

Ok, the snes version is more beautiful (94), but that's it, I felt like it was just a lame version of RKA, a sad copy. Sparkster genesis isn't as good as RKA too, but i still prefer this one because it had its own ideas and because of how nervous is the gameplay.
dude, wtf, the only stage is random its the musical one, also the robot and shoot em up segments in rka always were kind of meh (Especially the robot) and the axle gear battle in rka its a joke because the stupid AI
the only real problem whit this game its the rocket, its too fucking fast
maybe its the scrolling?? but my point its, its very difficult to react when you use the rocket
Red Gem God ironically I finish the game in crazy hard yesterday
@@xenotypos The stages make sense, and pretty much lead into one another. Even the musical stage, as you land in it after the mechanical bird throws you off at the end of stage 3. You just didn't pay any attention at all it seems. A lot of other games didn't have stages that linked to one another, and for those of us who grew up either long before (myself), or right around this era didn't give two shits, we just played these games, and loved them.
#sparksterforsmash
love this game when i was 6.
Me too.
what happened to the genesis ver? It could it looked better than what it looked, look at rocket knight on gen lol
My old memories
it always felt weird to die and cut striaght to black both audio and video wise :(
Rocket knight adventure music is much better
@Zesanactor Over-5 no
@Zesanactor Over-5 No
It's weird out the inferior MegaDrive/Genesis version was the one that was rendered canonical by Konami.
The Megadrive original game was far better than the Sparkster sequels anyway.
25:17 You were probably getting frustrated.
Rocket Knight adventures & Sparkster
You have to mention Sparkster on SNES because on Megadrive it sucked.
Took me years to find this, always thought this was a Sonic game. Actually I remember Shadow being the piano playing boss.
better than genesis sparkster, but still not as good as rocket knight adventures.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP please, just tell the reason why it's better so i can agree with your opinion.
The space boss is a pain
13:04 YEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Ride em Cowboy!

HOW TALL IS THAT MOUNTAIN?! O_O;
Респект 👍
Cool.
Puissant
rapide
Speed
Ouais.
Great game and all but holy shit, fuck that mech battle in space. That just felt like pure like luck to even beat.
KONAMI'S SPARKSTER 30TH ANNIVERSARY 1994-2024!
Why is this different from the gnes version??
Konami did that a lot during the 16 bit erqa, maybe to try and get kids to have their parents buy both consoles, so that they could buy copies of both games for two different experiences. Hell they got me, but not until years later after the Genesis was cheaper to buy (I have had my SNES since 1991), and the games had gotten significantly cheaper, and before their prices came up again. The TMNT games, both belt scrollers, and fighting games, both Sunset Riders, both Lethal Ebnforcers 1 (and the Genesis sequel, as well as RKA), both Tiny Toons platformers, both Tiny Toons sports games, and both versions of Animaniacs.
im confused this not the game i remember from snes
its like Sonic but with actual gameplay.
Is this like a sequel or prequel?
You mean from the genesis game?
Side story to the series.
