- Swedish police chasing a SV1000S -04. The rider was arrested in his home and pleaded guilty which was a stupid thing to do. In Sweden you have no obligation to give information who was riding your bike. The police must prove you were riding at the time and that is almost impossible if you use a helmet.

I checked the registration number, it's an SV1000, still in traffic, with one owner since new! This is very rare .
I find it amazing that they went after the bike and not the BMW that was up his arse and clearly overtook him further down the road

He was running for his life/bike, caus the police car is totaly undercover. And the BMW need to be arrested too
I think they were just racing. He was behind the BMW several times and could've taken another route, he _chose_ to follow the BMW.
The police didnt have their sirens on so maybe it was a "civilian" cop car? And in that case yeah I would fear for my life too if someone pulled up in front of me and tried to box me in without showing they are police.

I don't understand one thing - why don't they use a siren or some official way to signal to the biker "we're the police, stop". I mean, what if the biker didn't know and just thought "some idiot is chasing me and wants a fight, better run away"

Sure that's an SV1000? Can't see for sure but going by the single exhaust - which is very rare on an SV1000 - I'll bet it's an SV650. Also going by the performance it seems more 650ish. Source: I own one of each.
Only 6 years later - Yes, it's an SV1000S. I checked the plate. Still the same owner to this day.

wouldn't it be a great idea to switch the siren on when chasing someone with around 140 to 160 km/h in an urbanized area? Or is it an undercover police cruiser? But even then it should have a siren installed

To your comment: A Charger wouldn't be that useful over here, cause we have to h´carry a lot of material (also on cars of the highway patrol). The cars used nowadays in Sweden actually have a very good performance (e.g. the Volvos do keep up with e.g. a Mercedes SLS).
And here in Germany we mostly use BMW 3-/5-series Touring, Mercedes C-/E-/S-class or Volkswagen Passat/T5

Can you really expect anyone to stop when a unmarked car, possibly with only a small rotating light on the roof, and no sirens try to pull you over?!. I wouldn't.
I would. Here in Finland the "unmarked" are a bit different perhaps than in Sweden. You need to see in the back mirror.
One of the "cooler things a experienced. I worked a while n Cali US, on a weekend trip i drove down an empty road to get to next town. Saw a Police car parked on the other lane, i slowed down, he waved me near and I told him where I am going. He said this road is closed(it was near a military area and they had some flight or some training going, I believe). Well, that was U-turn, decided not to take the other cattle road to that other town.
I expected an answer like that. Logic always prevails.

As a German i find it disturbing that so many people don't know how to drive properly fast. Those Policeman make some pretty dangerous maneuvers while driving over 200 km/h.

Guess you have pretty much same system in Sweden as we have in Finland. You can find any car's or motorbikes basic details from traffic authority database based on plate or serial number.

@SpiiV I had both a SV650 and an SV1000s. SV650 has 2 into 1. SV1000s has a 2 into 1 into 2. PS I loved my 650 but hated the 1000. it lost something when they made it larger.
Also not sure but don't the 1000 have 2 exhausts??

It's Sweden in summer time, especially more up north. Very few hours of darkness if any up there during summer time.

People, if it would have been an official painted police car, do you really think that both the BMW and the bike would have passed them at such high speed? Unlikely, therefore we can draw the conclusion that this was a "civil car" as we say in swedish. I agree that with the fact that they should have left the sirens on all the time. Since the guy confessed afterwards I don't think that he is the kind of person who doesn't stop for police.

I think these laws should be reconsidered.
Here in Finland there are no "ghostriders". Some try-outs, but they are easily handled.
No sirens or lights? Here in uk even undercover police vehicles have blue lights and sirens.

Its an SV1000S, although it may seem like a 650. The width of the rear tyre and the sound is definitely NOT 650.
I have 2 SV1000's like that, and both have 2in1 exhaust like the one in the movie.

Per Hultman You're wrong. It's a SV 650... the 1000 need dual exhaust for more flow 650 has one. Look it up yourself... I own a sv1000..
You can get a single exit exhaust kit for the 1000 (M4 full system), but I reckon this is a 650 because the rear tyre doesn't look fat enough (160 vs 180).
It's registered as a 1000cc... regardless of what exhaust it has.

when the police car drive in 200 around that sloop into opposing lane, they could have killed a family ... in Norway and even America they stop follow if it get to dangerous for rest of the public..so this was a crappy chase... they should have arrested the driver in the cop car to....Risking kids and families like this, when they already have the plate number on the bike and all on top of it all.... Shame to cops here.

There may police lights shown - please specify where you can see the reflections, but I can't hear any sirens until 6:12 which may or may not be coming from the car that is filming. I do hear a car horn being used however, not the most effective method though, you must admit.
Yes there is a need for police in pursuit to identify themselves - this gives the person being pursued the opportunity to pull over and tells them that they are suspected of doing something wrong. Without identifying themselves, they could be just another joyrider/ raging driver.
It is also essential for better safety of all road users who can do their best to make way.
Old post but yeah you're correct, unmarked car (a marked car has the word "polis" in big blue letters on the hood) , no uniform and no sirens/lights. Police was in the wrong because the rider had no way of knowing it was the police.
KoivuTheHab Actually yes you do, if you feel that your life is threatened you have the right to get away from the situation/threat. Which an aggressive, unmarked and unidentified car chasing you can easily be seen as. This has been done before in roadrage incidents where the same criteria was met.

And for your example I am one, was chased last summer by two bike jackers, called the cops during the incident though which is one difference that was in my favor. I drove extremely recklessly to avoid the situation and wasn't charged with anything.
You proceed to call the police and it takes around 2 years for the case to go into court. If you're one of the lucky 25% percent of cases that actually make it to court in the first place.

He is NOT in jail. The only time he ever got caught he let them catch him on a bmx bicycle. The know who he is, but the laws in Sweden say they have to actually catch him. They have never caught him on the busa or gsx

That's not always enough. They also have to make sure they know who drove the vehicle first. Well in this case it shouldn't be a problem since they stopped the speeder.
How could you get caught on an sv650 never mind an sv1000? 0-60 in 3 seconds and change on the 650 what a crap rider.
The laws in Sweden are just stupid. Far too many are getting away by claiming "it was not me driving that vehicle". Instead there needs to be an owners responsibility, as in many other countries.
You only need sirens in the city, so people can hear you. The sirens have no effekt on the highway

It is indeed a SV1000S, it is registered as such and it's impossible for it to be wrong... The rider was caught at home through the registered address. It's an SV1000S nothing else.
