#teezmcgee when this tour was going on in the early 90s it was state of the art, the most expensive tour ever (at that time) and was the most profitable tour ever (at that time). Bono called various people at different shows during the phone bit. He once called the white house and spoke to Bill Clinton. Bono took on different persona's during the show and dressed the part. He said the different persona's allowed him to be ridiculously bold as he was "acting" and it was not meant to be taken seriously... unless it was. Teex it's so cool to see you taking notes during the vids so you dont forget to mention stuff afterword's. I only mentioned the notebook the other day cause I was curious. The reason people enjoy these reaction channels is because of the nostalgic moments of watching someone hear epic songs and remembering how we fellt when we heard a track for the first time. It's all about nostalgia, just like chiptunes / nintendocore but more on that later. I dig what you do, you are quickly becoming a favorite reactor.

I was thinking about it, and just about any clip of any song from this show is review-worthy. "Angel of Harlem" would be a good one, but there are so many others. Zoo TV will never be topped, IMO.

@@bminturn Have you read the wiki page for the tour and the concept itself (the stage show concept.)? I get lost clicking the links in those but its so cool. This show affected me alot when I found it on dvd in 1996. In the early 90s when the sho was filmed the Berlin wall came down live on CNN. The 24 hr news cycle with its celebrity cult of personality and ambulance chaser (and sometimes OJ drivin bronco) sensationalize EVERYTHING business model took America by surprise. The Zoo TV tour just held a mirror up to it and said "look at this shit. Is this n ot fucked up?" The show was well ahead of its time and prophetic in terms of what the future had in store. (reality TV etc.) Sorry I rant sometimes. I love that show though, what a mind blowing concept it was way back then.

@@deejayturtle it helps to understand the backdrop as far as how poorly "Rattle and Hum" was received. For one thing, following "The Joshua Tree" wasn't going to be easy. For another, "Rattle and Hum" is packed with great original songs. But the media elite decided it was time to smack U2 down a few pegs because how does this Irish new wave band think that it's just going to all of a sudden explore American music with any kind of authenticity? It was a load of BS. Bands can try out whatever they want, right? I think that most fans, as opposed to critics, don't give a shit. But this tour was in large part a reaction to that media scrutiny. The decided to just make a parody of it.

@@bminturn I think it's great to show U2 playing Lemon, especially live.
It shows how different they are as a band, it shows creativity.
And it's also incredible to think that the band that makes Sunday Bloody Sunday is capable of making Lemon, with a perfect falsetto vocals.
I think U2 is too big a band, but people only know (even if they're not a fan), their thousands of radio hits.
I believe that few people today, young people know their incredible B-side. Which I think has beautiful treasures like Lemon and others.
Another point is the performance of Lemon, it is incredible how difficult it is to find Bono there, at this moment he is Macphisto.

The "Lemon" in the lyrics refers to the colour of a dress that his late mother would wear. It just stuck out in his memory.
It's in this performance he's channeling his inner David Bowie.

I saw the show at Arrowhead Stadium in October of 1992 - just home from boot camp. It would have been an absolute disaster if the performances didn't live up to the stage set, but that was the beauty of the show - the performances were (for the most part) fantastic. Better than the album versions of their songs.

More than 10. I would dare say 1985-2009 They held the reigns of biggest rock band in the world - at least over time. In 1985 (Having already released War and The Unforgettable Fire - (Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Years Day, Pride, ect...) Then obviously The Joshua Tree, R&H, Achtung Baby, Zooropa, POP, hitting it huge again in 2000 with All That You Can't... and then in 2004 with Vertigo and Atomic Bomb getting 8 grammy's including album of the year, aaalllll the way to 2009 having the largest grossing tour of all time with 360.

Here’s something I saw online explaining Bono’s character Macphisto
In a nutshell, MacPhisto is the Devil, in the form of an ageing rock star. But rather like the Biblical demon calling himself Legion ("for we are many"), this satanic celebrity incorporates a myriad of influences - probably more than will be mentioned here. Bold and theatrical, charismatic yet fragile, controversial and just a little bit camp, MacPhisto brought to the shows a wicked humour as well as a sense of faded glory that's genuinely moving at times. Dressed in a gold lamé suit and outrageous glittery platform boots, speaking slowly in an upper-class English accent, he inherited the Mirrorball Man's penchant for prank calls - and ran with it. Over the course of several months he phoned a wide variety of politicians, celebrities, royalty, religious leaders, taxi companies and more, with decidedly mixed results.
Great review.Always go with U2 live, arguably the greatest live band ever.

This was the at the tail end of their Zoo TV tour to support their Achtung Baby album, which was released in 1991. This concert was filmed in 1993, so they were into year 3 of a world tour. This part of the tour changed up a little bit by the time they got to Asia and Australia, though, because they'd released a kind of "filler" album while touring, called "Zooropa". They wanted to try something a little more "out there". This song, "Lemon", is from that album. The whole stage act at this point was really just the band being a parody of itself, because it took so much shit after it's commercial success following "The Joshua Tree" in 1987. You're not old enough to remember, but these guys ruled radio from like 1984 - 1993. I mean just killed it. That crowd in this video was over 100k, and that was normal for them. If you want another good example of U2 live, albeit a little later in their career, try "One" live from Slane Castle.

U2 Concerts are the most intimate and electrifying concerts to be at. They are seasoned professionals but true artists and maybe the last of the rock n rolls stars. But if you check the Grammy's or concert attendance records, U2 is still up there. 10 year ago I was over 35 with my 8 yr old daughter at a U2 concert (360 Tour to South Africa) and then travelled in the week from Johannesburg to Cape Town to attend the other concert of the same tour with some friends. Type of stuff still done for Rock bands like U2. \m/

Thanks for being the only reaction to Lemon that I could find on TH-cam.
This is the performance that made me love U2!
I'm gonna take y'all back: when U2 hit it mega-super-big around 1987, my anti-bandwagon gene caused me to turn the other way. Around 1995 I was working at a Circuit City selling car stereos, and the dude in the music department would play this concert video (U2 Live in Sydney...on VHS) regularly. And, this song specifically struck a chord (no pun intended) with me. I went on to become a huge U2 fan and only regret that I didn't start sooner.

    Warning ❗️ essay inbound…
Your reaction was absolutely perfect, I have seen them a lot ‘live’ and the ZOO TV Tour was not just a concert it was an experience, I am a old school Hip Hop head through and through but living near a big outdoor concert venue growing up (The MK Bowl if you wanna look it up) was an easy magnet for big bands and concerts that I would never buy, plus we was able to get in through holes in fences and I saw Bowie, U2, Simple Minds, Michael Jackson (although MJ was hard to get into because he had a sold fence around the wire one so it was on peoples shoulders to get in but we made it lol)
Anyways I saw U2 on the ‘Longest Day’ tour/concert and then then when they took a break and came back with Achtung Baby they had me 100% hooked, I saw them at the Birmingham NEC and it I was like you and your facial expressions, mind blown, awesome bass, more than a concert and something I really do feel blessed to have seen, I’ve seen them since on the Popmart Tour, Eleventh Tour, Vertigo Tour, 360 Tour and they all just got better but nothing was able to beat the ZOO TV Tour. (This is an essay through passion lol)
‘Lemon’ is a gem among gems, Bono’s voice and Adams bass are so distinctive and obviously Edges guitar playing is so recognisable as its ‘his style’. I love how you have to do what I used to do and make notes lol, McPhisto was such a clever character to portray and I really highly recommend watching the whole concert and add ‘Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me’ to it from the Popmart Tour. Your man sent you a great song to start your U2 journey, I will def check out more of your reaction videos…stay safe

Here's one more mate, "their of your heart" Sinead O'Conner, Bono wrote it, its about the Irish people wrongly convicted for IRA bombing, my people picked up off the streets, innocent men hard working, beaten and burned into confessing for the bombing when even the IRA said they were not involved but the Brits needed a few Paddys, in England they even call their pick up vans 'Paddy wagons' because they'd pick us up for nothing, I'm an Irish traveller, I was picked up by a copper who said to me "you know I hate Muslims but I really hate you Feinians" that being a derogatory word for us, even today there are signs outside pubs and restaurants 'no travellers permitted' and if you even Google 'Pontins anti Irish' that was this year a British holiday place that told its staff to not allow anyone with a f****** Irish name, don't get, me wrong most are sound people but it hurts me when my wee daughter sees those signs, used to bigotry now though, they never have the balls to say it direct to me though but my wee girl and wife's done nothing wrong, I've never wronged anyone, honour means something to me and considering I've three combat tours in the BAF I've done more for THEIR country than most of them, 'In the Name of the Father' is the name of the movie btw, thanks a million, sorry for my whingeing here, hope work gets better my friend! This 4 song section of the 360 tour, gives a glimpse of the diversity U2 has. 4 different song types, with different execution and performance style. They go from an experimental song which was not an official U2 release. It was a duet originally recorded with Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, with Bono taking on Pavarotti's operatic parts here live. It is executed straightforward and simple. Then the questions ending Miss Sarejevo give way to the sprawling experimental space epic of Zooropa, where the screen expands and envelops and obscures the band, and creates an alien spaceship-like entity looking like it is scanning the audience for signs of life. Then City of Blinding Lights illuminates the screen with more serene band imagery, and finally a dizzying dirge of rawk with Vertigo. The video and audio aren't great quality or even a great view. However, this somewhat shows that even with poor fan audio and video, you can hear and see the scope, grandness, otherworldliness production staging execution and thought that goes into their performance. How the music band and everything is presented, is approached. It is not a stage/band at the end of the field, nor merely in-the-round, but something completely other. th-cam.com/video/fAXtOGW-x6Q/w-d-xo.html

McPhisto was Bono’s “alter ego” - I like the studio version of this song better myself.
He sings “Daddy’s Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car” at this concert, too.

Lemon je najluđa pjesma od U2 a zadnjih pola sata ovoga koncerta je čista umjetnost.

Any U2 really..........listen closely to Adam and Larry.......I know the 'Voice BOX' (German word bono means voice box) Bono is distracting.but......try....feeel

U2 would never be this experimental or great again (as with Zooropa).

Saludos.

One of the worst songs I’ve ever heard from U2. I could not believe this when it first came out.
After 14 years of following this band
I pretty much cut them off after this album.😂
