Our thanks to Neil Draper for providing the Go-Pro cameras and in editing this footage together.
XH558 is the last flying Avro Vulcan and the last flying representative of Britain's famous V-force. She is operated by a charity that must raise around £2 million each year to maintain and operate her. 2015 will be her final season of flight.

This is the best Vulcan footage ever! That last climb you can clearly see the attitude indicator shows her going upside down before rolling out.. Amazing!

+Steve Walton Watching this again what struck me was the sideways camera view at the top of the climb, the horizon stayed almost constant as the aircraft rolled, meaning that the fuselage was properly vertical at the time!
If Carlsberg made air displays, this was it.

I have been visiting Battle of Britain air shows since 1950's, also served in the Royal Air Force, there were always favourites with me especially when it came to displays , Lightning, Harrier, but the Vulcan topped the lot, it was a crowd puller, it was one of the aircraft which "made" a airshow.

Vulcan air displays from the eighties stay with me. Power, beauty and grace. Howl and groundshake. No plane before or since has been so awesome. Awe. That's the word.

Brilliant video. I used to attend Junior school in Leicestershire and occasionally Vulcans from RAF Cottesmore used to overfly the school occasionally, quite often at lowish altitudes. If this happened at breaktime, the whole playground would stop and stare (teachers included ). A truly UNFORGETTABLE aircraft.

Lovely to see inside a great British icon. Fantastic flying and great footage.
I always try to pop to Doncaster to see her fly and it will be sad when she touches down for the last time.
Seeing images from the bomb bay and that shadow across the landscape makes me sad that after this year, we will never see that again.
I will try to see XH558 as much as possible this year (seen her twice already) and I hope that we will be able to come see her for that final landing.

Thanks for the video guys fantastic! Such a shame this is the last year, There will not be a dry eye in the house I'm sure! Sadly I will miss her as I am over in the US. Last time I saw a Vulcan was the fairwell 4 ship back in 83, wonderful memories !

Visited three of these aircraft now and slowing going to do the list of remaining ones. Never seen them fly but grew up when these things were on standby. Fantastic aircraft. Chalking another four of them off this summer fingers crossed. XJ824 Duxford, XM597 East Fortune, XM598 Cosford....already done 👍

I think you can hear one of the pilots saying "I can't believe you did that" when he does the wing over at the 10:33-38 mark! They clearly enjoyed themselves though and put on a good final show!

    • @leephcom
      @leephcom 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

+arrrgee However that was not the wing-over that basically took her upside-down - interestingly any meaningful horizon-shots were edited out during that manoeuvre and you could only see a white-out from inside the cockpit. THAT was the best part of the entire display. Slightly ruined by the Reds taking off at the same time...

Excellent display and thanks for putting this great footage together. Two questions:
    1. What altitude did it reach on the final power climb?
    2. Are we going to see a full roll before the season is over?

Being curious what bank angle and inclination they did I had them measured with a protractor, measuring the angle between the horizon and the botom of the screen.
My assumption hereby was that the camera in the nose was fitted level.
The maximum bank (wingover) angle was a massive 135° (just 45° away from flying upside down!) , and the steepest inclination when climbing 70°, which is vey impressive for a 111ft wingspan plane.
Thats aproximately the same wingspan as a Boeing 737-600, imagine one of them trying this.....
