  • @webwarren
    @webwarren 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    two issues I'd bring up here: (1) not all 100% cotton fabric is preshrunk, so the first thing I'd do is prewash the fabric - on as hot a setting as possible, to encourage maximum shrinkage. (This time, it will go through the hot cycle on the dryer). (2) A lot of Jo-Ann's quilting fabrics are skewed off-grain, so they need to be washed or dampened and ironed back to grain before you cut the fabric. Keeping the selvedge edges will make this difficult; it is better to trim the selvedeges before straightening the grain.
    A third issue I'd add is in hip measurement: if you have "thunder thighs" like me, my "hip" measurement will be several inches larger when I'm sitting than when I'm standing. Make sure you have enough width to sit comfortably!

    I’m making a skirt for a tall person, 5’7”, and so her stride would be kinda long because her legs are long. What her size guide measurement be?
    What would the size guide measurement be for someone who is 5’5”?
    They wouldn’t be the same size, right?

    • @erlidawnroy5892
      @erlidawnroy5892  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Possibly adjust the tension, or use a double-sided satin ribbon. That type of ribbon has a thicker weight to it. You can tell the difference between the Amazon ribbon and that double-sided ribbon once you feel it side-by-side.

      @erlidawnroy5892  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi I'm not too sure of the brand but these ribbons I bought from hobby lobby when they have their 40% off sale. They're double faced satin.
      It's up to you to wash your fabric/ribbons before you work to preshrink it. As for after it's made, I hand wash my skirts and hang them up in the shower. Iron once it's dry.

    for your elastic do you have to cut it smaller than what the waist measurement is? if so how much smaller? when I try put my elastic in it isn’t stretchy and bunched up looking lol help!

    • @erlidawnroy5892
      @erlidawnroy5892  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I typically cut the elastic to my waist measurement. My waist was 34" so I cut the elastic at 34". When I sew the elastic together, I overlap it by an inch. That way I lose about an inch. By that way, the skirt is not too tight or too loose.

    • @erlidawnroy5892

    • @erlidawnroy5892
      @erlidawnroy5892  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you have a serger you can serge up the edges. But Im not that cool yet so I iron the seam to the side and sew it down so it don't catch and start to fray.

    • @erlidawnroy5892
      @erlidawnroy5892  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a pink thread, that way it matched all the ribbons. I could've used matching thread for each ribbin color or reversed the thread colors to the opposing ribbon colors (maroon ribbon-white hread).
