thank you so much for this video! It helped me for my discussion post in my Ethics class... please continue to do more! You stayed on track and it was so clear!!! :)
Animals are not so dumb. They certainly have a conscience and are not simple biological machinery. They have spirits too. Aquinas was not a zoologist 😊 we need to understand ideas in the conditions they arose from. I disagree that we have an instinct to preserve our species. Caring for offspring is a completely separate matter. I disagree that we have an instinct to preserve our species. Caring for offspring is a completely separate matter. I think Bastiat does a better job at describing the origins of natural law. We apply our faculties to resources to sustain ourselves. Thus, from a right to live arises a right to the land we work to sustain ourselves. Thus, law arises from property rights, to include our bodies, and then extends to a right to travel in order to trade. Law then becomes the collective use of force to apply the rights that any individual has, and not more than that.

Sometimes the graphics are a bit distracting and not particularly helpful, particularly the one at 0:33, which is supposed to illustrate "the world", but focuses on 2 continents that were still undiscovered during Aquinas' lifetime.
This has been so helpful and chewed up bit by bit as if it's tailored for 12 year olds, and that's why I love it! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
