His "common sense" doesn't seem to extend to knowing those hires were not as ATCs, which make up only a small % of FAA employees.

MAGA simple minds have one big issue. They all harp on about gender identity but doesn't really effect their day to day life. America is becoming soulless.
Most people do not understand what diversity hiring involves. My wife works in local government, the way their hiring works is that everything that individualises a candidate, apart from their qualifications, written application and work experience is removed from the panel who shortlist for interview. This means the people who come to interview could look like anyone. They are then interviewed by a random panel who have strict scoring criteria, so they cannot exercise any personal choice. The person who gets the job is the person who scores highest. This is the full inclusive hiring policy, similar to the way it's done most professional places. Very different to the way Trump has hired his billionaire friends, his family members and a gaggle of young blond women to run Americaland.

Yes, DEI is not the same as "positive discrimination", where you have to meet stated quota numbers of minority employees.
It is the exact opposite of that and is designated to appoint solely on merit and suitability for the job and avoid discrimination on grounds of race, disability or other characteristics.

Standards are not lowered FOR DEI hires. No matter who is hired, they have to pass tests and standards to obtain a license. People aren't hired JUST BECAUSE they are DEI.
Also Dei isn't a thing that you are. D- Diversity E- Equity I- Inclusion. You can't "be DEI", you can be hired through DEI initiatives or programs or because of a commitment to DEI but it is not a kind of person.

“Even if it’s true” it’s not true because that is not how DEI works. DEI opens doors it allows more people from different backgrounds to enter the space, it doesn’t reduce or make things easier. For example pilots still have to have the same amount of training, same amount of flying time, same amount of time on simulators…none of that has been changed by DEI, what has been changed is opening opportunities up to allow more people to try out. If people don't meet the criteria, they don't pass the exams, they don't do the training, then they don't become pilots.

Musk forced the head of the overseeing (FAA) authority to quit, after he was told there needs to be MORE air controllers (around 3000). Trump suspended the head (and others) of the FAA, and he wants to reduce FAA personnel even further.

An aviation expert has already said the most likely cause was the Black Hawk undergoing training exercise without the Collision Avoidance device turned on, as the helicopter had already changed course 6 times in the minutes preceding the collision.

Folks keep gettin’ it wrong-DEI ain't about lowerin’ the bar or handin’ out favors. It’s about real meritocracy, not some kinda quota-based system. It means I can find and hire the best talent from anywhere, no matter their background, beliefs, or what they look like. That’s the whole point-removin’ DEI doesn’t lead to more merit, it just locks out qualified people based on bias. Look at places like Pakistan, where folks get appointed based on religion instead of ability. That ain’t meritocracy-that’s just exclusion.

The head of the FAA was removed by Elon because he was being investigated by the agency for lack of safety standards.

Given that the FAA is ultimately responsible for ensuring Air Traffic services at SQL, we requested temporary FAA staffing in the tower. HOWEVER, the FAA informed us this morning that they will NOT provide temporary personnel. The letter went on to say much much more about concerns for flight safety.
On TRUMP’s 2ND DAY, HE:

2. Fired the entire Aviation Security Advisory Committee
3. Froze hiring of all Air Traffic Controllers
