A quick guide on flashing WLED to a NodeMCU ESP8266 board

- I'm learning how to control LEDs with a NodeMCU, and the first step is flashing WLED by AirCookie to an ESP8266 NodeMCU.
This video goes over downloading the appropriate software and WLED firmware, as well as how to determine which COM port your NodeMCU is running on.
I learned after rendering that the video artifacts weren't from my editor, but were from my camera, sorry about that... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you for a simple easy way to flash my esp8266. Every other video seemed to just show you how to do it through the web browser and the moment I disconnect it from my computer it no longer works. Now I'm up and running for on the go led projects. Appreciate it!
I got to the step where you open ESPEasy Flasher and then flash wled onto esp but i get an error reading "Flash failed with arg--port com6 --baud 115200 write_flash 0x0 .\WLED_0.12.0-b4_ESP8266 (1).bin are the Settings correct?" i have no idea what i did wrong, i followed your steps exactly. any idea what i should do?
Really nice and simple explanation. keep it up for super cool help...
What about the driver? cant find one
Thank you man! it's working very well here with your flash method tip! Hugs from Brazil!
Awesome! After many weeks I'm finally done editing the video on getting it connected to the network, I hope to get it published tonight. I'd love to hear what you wind up using your NodeMCU for, I'm still very much new to this device.
@@ChasingSquirrels it's because I've two ws2812b strips in my room, so I decided to try WLED because of the wide variety of colors and effects, It's working very well now! :)
Thank you for the great demo! I was able to load WLED to my ESP8266 but I cannot seem to get it to connect to the WiFi. At the end of your video you just clicked on WLED-AP in your WiFi list and it just went straight to the website. Mine is asking for a network security key? I'm assuming it's not my router WiFi password as it does not work.
exactly the same i dont know the password
Chris Maher mentions a default password somewhere in one of his WLED videos.

Thanks! Easiest way to device manager is to right click on start button and selecting Device manager. :=)
Some uses sacrificial led to boost the data signal and turning on skip first led on wled
Thanks for the video!!! It was perfect and helped a lot. 👍👍👍
What happens if you don't have a port?
muy bien explicado! muchas gracias! saludos desde el fin del mundo!!!!
what is the password of esp8266 sir?

Thank you 🙏🏻
I hope this was helpful, I ran into all kinds of problems the first time I tried installing WLED, but now that I've done it a few times it is much easier than I though. I should have another video soon on setting up the network, then on connecting LEDs.
Good day sir. Where to get password?

What do I do if it doesn't recognize the nodemcu in the com port?
Use correct driver
Any tips for getting a 2nd NodeMCU flashed and running on the same WiFi network? I am smooth sailing with the first, but can never connect with the second.
Great video just hoping you could help please, when i used the Flash tool, select the correct com port and firmware, The tool starts "connecting" then a few dots then lines more dots then lines then fails, Any suggestions what i am doing wrong ?
I keep getting an error message, and every board I try.
Wled not install esp8266
Same problem as another commentor. How do you configure the wifi? I can't connect because it wants a password.

Awesome! Thank you so much!!! It worked for me.
Thank you. This worked.
Thanks for the great video, got mine to work but could you answer this; when I unplug power to esp8266 it reset the lights back to ember color then I have to change back to correct color. It’s like it doesn’t remember settings. Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure, I'll look into it and see what I find. We may be stuck with resetting LED configs after power cycles based on how the ESP8266 works, but I'm not sure. If I find a way to do this, I'll post a video about it.
Looking at options to setup LED strips for my house. Looking at options like RGBW2 or SP105e, and now this that I've seen these videos of yours. For RGB(maybe RGBW) LED strips for the kitchen where I may want to have an effect sometimes, which option would you recommend? I can't see much on either of the first two options regarding list of effects and how they look (Just some people saying, "Look it has lots of effects, wow" and maybe trying 2-3 of them.)
Also kitchen under cabinet lights, Cool white or Warm white do you reckon?
Cheers from Down under.
I'm looking hard at using ESP8266 with RGBW LEDs, sticking with warm white, but I need to figure out how to manually code things because I want to do kitchen timers and specific data-driven color changing effects, but I'm not sure how to do that just yet.
