The last chorus where Pete belts "off" so beautifully & then transitions into a scream gives me chills every time. His vocals don't get nearly enough respect.

I think that's partially it. I think it was more that he put so much effort into this album that if the fans didn't like it, he knew he would need to take some time to focus on other stuff.
But clearly that hard work paid off, this may be my favorite song of theirs ever

And I like Clones too because it's so unlike any other song and it's kind of like a diss track to those who constantly compare them to other bands lol. Same Old Trip is also wonderful. The whole damn album is a masterpiece. I love their more melodic stuff so HOTTB and Sci Fi Crimes are my personal favorites. But I gotta give it to "Take out the Gunman" off of "La Gargola" because that song has my favorite Chevelle lyric of all time: "he's crazy as a straw". Pure genius right there, it always makes me smile.

Chevelle has a way of latching itself to many of my major life events. So whenever I hear any song of theirs, flashbacks of good and bad memories resurface.

I woke up this morning partial deaf with a left ear issue, depressed, could barely hear so put on headphones and this popped up in new releases. WOW, 3 in a row. WHAT A SONG! Really changed my mood. If this was the last song I heard it was amazing. What an emotional song.

This song has brought me nostalgia, when I bought my first album Vena Sera and listened to it every night, those times that I met this band and it changed my life. Melodic yet heavy and punchy and splashy. Perfection. I love deftones as well and their melancholy vibe and obscure lyrics. Both bands are so refreshing.

I am going through the years in my head remembering when I heard every chevelle song in my youth. Starting with The Red at the age of 13. I am now 31.
Tears brought to my eyes to how much this band means to me after all these years.
