Thanks for the information. Start in three days driving a 2019 T800 tri-axle dump, with trailer hauling heavy equipment and aggregate/asphalt. Great tips and common sense approach. Peace on...
Don't fprget to lock the tailgate for the next load... Sometimes dump trucling gets monotonous, & you forget to take the PTO out or lock the gate.. It happens. I remember when there were no buttons. You pulled a cable/handle from the floor to engage the PTO, Moved a lever between the seats for up & down < Had a handle outside the cab for the tailgate no air or hydraulics ..all manual
I know this is an old video…but I am 52 years old. I decided to make a career change after covid. I left my job after 22 years in a warehouse offloading trucks and shipping containers. I got my CDL B. License last year. I’m still trying to find the right fit. I’m looking at a few dump truck companies outside Philly. Hopefully I can find something that encourages new inexperienced cdl drivers. I have a couple questions. 1)Does the dump truck driver get out of the truck to do any digging, tampering or excavating or does he/she just stay in truck to drive and operate it? I don’t mind stretching my legs out and getting my hands dirty but at my age, I’m not trying to do too much physical work at this stage of my life. 2) what is better? Getting paid by the load? Or paid by the hour? One place said that they start new drivers at $22.-23/hr. 8-10 hour days. Another place said $230-250/ day no overtime. They give 30-50$ over 40hours. Can you or any of your followers help give me some idea before applying there?
I have one main question, what is it necessary to push the clutch in to operate the PTO? Do you have to hold the clutch in in order to operate the PTO and when should you press the clutch for the PTO? When bringing the dump back down, do you have to press the clutch in at all? Thanks for any feedback
That’s interesting about the tag axle. I never knew that was that much to a dump truck. I’m trying to get a job driving a dump truck, going today actually to apply. Got to ask you, what’s in the bucket in the floorboard? Just curious.
You should be getting out after dumping to ensure the tailgate is indeed locked but lose debris on the sides of where u dumped, & in between ur tires, too many drivers are taking the easier way. Otherwise good video👍
Do you have to hold the clutch in when lifting the dump up? My main thing that I'm trying to understand is when is it necessary to press the clutch to operate the PTO
I would imagine the biggest safety issue with some types of garbage trucks is the ones with the front loader forks i.e ( The analogy would be a skid steer in terms of construction vehicles /possible forklifts) ...As if not properly operated you could dump tons of weight on yourself/front of vehicle.
yes actually there is a definite difference in route length for dump trucking. You can spend a week trucking a half mile on site all day or haul asphalt which can be 100-200mile round trips. I've driven tt and dump truck and enjoy both. I do watch videos like this because you never know what tricks you might learn from someone else. Hope that answered your question even tho i think you just felt like leaving a sarcastic comment
Bobcat325 ok cool I can see the reason for turning left and right but what is the reason for a stoplight? I just got mine and I appreciate the heads up

I sub'd! I would like to be a dump-truck driver as a second job... I heard it is hard to get a job... I wonder if any company would train you and have you work for them. I don't want to straight drive a big rig and be gone for days/weeks on the road. I like the construction site, so I'd like to drive a dump - truck and that ways, I can be home daily to lay in my bed...
@@Bobcat325 , not in the Western Side of Ohio though... They are very picky about who they pick. They usually want you to do OTR but I have too many obligations like rental multi-units to attend to with tenants, so I have to stay grounded... I only would like to do something part-time (PT) during my extra time, but preferably in CONSTRUCTION such as a dump-truck... However, despite a few ads, whenever I call, they often require prior CDL/OTR... A couple of companies in Ohio claimed to be training for dump-trucks, but I contacted them, and instead, they tried to get me to do OTR...lol. I would do TANKERS/GAS TANKERS or DUMP-TRUCKS only at this time (I may also consider delivery of heavy-equipment such or delivery such as with UPS trucking, but I have to be home daily)... just to keep me occupied during my leisure between acquisition and TLC of multi-units... I guess I'd just cut them all off and just start my own DUMP-TRUCK/TANKER/TRUCKING company because I easily could...
You have to pick it up on tight street turns just enough to take pressure off. then put it back down, unless you have a axle that turns with you as you turn. If you don't pick it up the truck will slide thru the corner.
Don't limit your self to just dump trucks consider running concrete most company's have a couple dump trucks start with what you can get and look for a better company when you have experience
Lot's of Dump jobs down here in Florida.. We have several companies in my 1 town that have dumps & always hiring One company has over 75 tri-axles. It's also easier down here . Everything is flat & sand, not like up north in New England where I learned . Rocks/boulders & a lot of hills.

Hourly is better. Dumptruck work depends on company if you get out and labor or strictly driving. They'll tell you.

I usually step on clutch, put truck in gear, engage PTO, take truck out of gear and release clutch

short haul dump trucking is awful lol. I like driving tt for longer runs. It can be very monotonous but hey you might like it.
so awful you spend your nights looking at short haul triaxle dump truck videos lol. whats the opposite? long haul triaxle dump trucking? lmao

Hey bud do you have to drop the suspension before you dump like an end-dump? ......so you dont blow an air bag?
No this truck doesn't have air ride suspension with the airbags.
Has different kind of suspension
ThankYou
Very nice truck
👍
Sir if we have two trailers then how to operate both
You dump the end trailer first , then unhook end trailer and dump first trailer then hook em all back up. Its a process pullin a pup trailer dump
The supervisor is wondering why is it taking 7minutes to dump your load. Lol!
Roger that
do you drop the axle when unloading the dump truck?
No not if on level ground ,etc. ,but if on little angle and it needs to be dumped there I'll then lower the tag axle for more support
Is that a school your working on and have you ran a bobcat toolcat
Good run through. How bad is it if you forget to take pto out?
Yeah & your body could go up if you forget to check where the button is
You still have this truck
Great narration
great video man
Thanks
Question my dude, why do you raise the axles at a stoplight
You only raise your axle when you turn left or right. Stop sign or stop light. Etc. And raise it when backing up too.
Bobcat325 ok cool I can see the reason for turning left and right but what is the reason for a stoplight? I just got mine and I appreciate the heads up
