Not far from my previous stop, Islay Creek Campground at Montana De Oro State Park, is Morro Bay State Park Campground. This campground is directly across from the Morro Bay Marina which offers numerous water activities. The campground is a good staging area to explore nearby Morro Rock and Bay.
The campground offers both hookup as well as dry camping. The hookup site are very close together. The non-hookup site offers slightly more space between you and your neighbor. A quick climb to the top of Black Hill, via dog friendly trail, offers a panoramic view of the park, Morro Bay and the coastline.
Morro Rock is just a short drive or bike ride away. It's worth visiting just to see the unique volcanic plug jutting out of the ocean.

Yes you should get decent signal there. Most sites are a bit close together, but the campground makes for a good home base to explore the area. Enjoy.
We stayed there once many years ago. There's a great small sea food restaurant across the street in the harbor parking lot. Get there early because they fill up fast for supper. Someone stole my GF's camera at that campground and another camper had his generator stolen by five finger discount. I guess because the street is literally right next to the camp sites anything goes. The staff was of no help.
A little further north is a much better campground right on the beach called the Strand.
The Morro Dunes RV park is cheaper and better as well
Cool Man! The hiking trail begins within the campgrounds? I also have dogs and would love to hike that elevation. Thanks for sharing
