@@Fleato call it an “homage” all you want, he’s a straight copy/paste in this instance minus the doorbell scene. While the character in whole is being called original and innovative when it’s not even the first time Donnie Yen has done it himself
My only problem is that it doesn't make much sense. It's cool, but making him blind was basically pointless since it barely effected how he fought. The doorbell thing was only shown in one scene and never brought up again, so I don't really see the point of introducing that idea in the first place if it is not utilized.
Something I wanna say is: Rest in Peace, Lance Reddick, the wonderful actor who played Charon in this series, as well as Commander Zavala in the Destiny games. He will be dearly missed, ans I’m glad he could make another appearance in John Wick before he passed.
Let me just say for everyone a wholehearted Rest in Peace for Lance Reddick. Perhaps best known for his role as Charon, he was a good man. As Charon we got a refreshing character for John Wick to interact with, and someone that reminded us that the film series wasn't all killing and murder. There were fun moments and moments that had us like "Aw yeah." or even moments that just had us laughing. Thank you Lance, for giving us the good times in John Wick, and for your roles in so many othwr franchises. I know I'm going to rewatch Fringe to see Lance in his role as Broyles, and to really enjoy the story he had to offer in his characters.
Caine is so amazing because he isn't the stereotypical blind monk, he's a fighter who's become blind and has learned to work around it, not once is his blindness shown as an advantage or as not a hindrance, he fights like someone who's just recently lost his sight. It's really refreshing
This film was not just unbelievably fun, it was unbelievably gorgeous as well. Some of the set pieces and shots genuinely look like they're taking place in a heavenly realm.
Agreed, the lighting and cinematography from John Wick 2 was amazing; especially the use of mirrors and reflections. This film then surpasses JW2, especially the scenes in the Killa’s club and the shot of John in Osaka covered in red lighting.
@@zacharymenchaca2336 Killas club was amazing. Between the synth beat mixed with the choir vocals, to the lighting and slow motion shots, to the waterfalls, it made it actually feel like he was going up against a God. I would like to see Killa in his prime.
Mr Nobody was such a cool character. He was literally the underdog in this movie and had a subtle but satisfying story arc that paralleled John's life.
Yeah, him and most of the supporting characters helped to cap off the series pretty well. He's likely going to have his own arc in the Continental show if it ever comes to fruition, which would be satisfying in its own right, since he still never got his money.
The whole point of his character boiled down to that one scene, and it was sort of necessary because there was always a dog theme in the other movies. Even when it was Sofia's dog he still had the line "I get it". The entire theme of his random ass meeting the CEO of Grey Poupon and their following interactions made almost no sense at all. He was asking for way too much for just being another random assassin with a dog. He also should have died easily the moment he pulled that presto vesto move while looking the shooter dead in the eyes.
The hotline miami sequence was super amazing, I love that they played the same Le Castle Vania song from John Wick 1 in that sequence too, great callback. The whole movie was so freaking entertaining, I was smiling from start from finish.
The osaka scene has some of the most beautiful shots and choreography i’ve seen in all of filmmaking. Coupled to a fantastic degree by an awesome soundtrack, it was easily one of my favorite moments in the series.
@@tiberianexcalibur It literally establishes part of John's history as an assassin and serves to connect it to his main friend/rival throughout the movie, but okay. Nope very pointless indeed.
The Dragons Breathe scene was easily one of the greatest action scenes I've ever seen in my life it was like I was playing Hotline Miami all over again and I love how they respect classic cinema theres a reference to Lawrence of Arabia in the first minute of the film god what a stunning series of films also Donny Yen what a boss.
Even the original john wick film reminds me of hotline miami with it being about a one man killing machine against the russian mob Also the russians from john wick wear black and red the opposite of the white and blue seen on the hotline miami mob
I don’t think anyone goes for the plot because it’s a really simple plot Everyone goes for the top tier action sequences, choreography, and stunt work done. Camera work especially the top down view was a work of art
@@iNoodl3s I think the plot is very interesting because of the past of the character but it is overshadowed by all the rest. Still you're right, the plot is deffinitely not the selling point of these.
It does try to not go beyond too over the top with everything particularly the weapons and gears. They don't go into the realm of old school Bond gadgets, the best they have in these movies are probably guns that shoot and reload faster. The bulletproof suits are the peak of this universe's tech so far and I hope it stays that as I felt like that was pushing it a little bit
Shimazu was actually my favorite character in the movie. He was only in the beginning. But his absolute loyalty to his friend, badassness, and refusal to stand down made me love him. (Spoiler) I wish he survived
I wish their were more necessity for his death. At the end Caine wasn't even asking him to give up John; he could have walked away with his honor then.
(Spoilers) In hindsight, it gives you at the end an exemple with Cane/Kane and his daughter of what Johnathan would have done to earn Shimazu's loyalty. It all came back full circle.
Love the scene where he saved nobody’s dog, you can see him remembering what happened to his own dog in the first movie. The dragons breath top down view scene is immaculate aswell.
Bill skarsgard did such an amazing job in his role. The suits he kept wearing was crazy lol. Had some funny memeable moments. Everyone in this movie did an amazing job.
For all of Donnie Yen's martial arts talent, they gave him a gun and made him blind, and he was about as deadly and graceful as he's ever been. Scott Adkins wore a grill and a fat suit, put on a ridiculous accent and character and still fought as if he were in only a gi. The talent they brought in over these films really elevated every scene they were in. Couldn't ask for a better ending.
Absolutely, adkins stole the show in my opinion. Most people would be shocked to see him doing all those stunts because they don’t know he was in a fat suit 😂
Donnie’s movement was so enjoyable to watch. I didn’t know who Scott Adkins was before this movie. I could tell it was a guy in a fat suit at the card table, then once he started fighting I was like damn, I need to find out who this guy is.
@@SlenderGray59 True. RIP Daisy but at least the rest lived. I still remember gasps seeing Chapter 2 when John's house was blown up and people thought the dog died again.
The reason why crowds and bystanders don't take notice to John Wick killing people is because the directors wanted crowds to act like NPC's in a videogame throughout the franchise. They found it especially funny in the silence pistol metro scene from I think it was the 2nd film, where John Wick is very obviously shooting out in the open and only a few people take notice. John Wick is very much like a videogame in that there are no police around during the action, and there are no conscious bystanders.
I just really enjoy the allegory of video game mechanics, as an action movie. John being able to take ridiculous amounts of damage, "npcs" not reacting to firefights, the crazy kills, John using a lot of the same moves. It all feels like video games levels for each fight and minimal "cutscene" story scenes
It’s crazy that the motorcycle scene was the only time he unlocked infinite ammo in the entire series. They’re usually so on point with frequent reloads.
I believe he had a 24 round magazine in the weapon he got! Additionally, there were a few times where he was taking ammo off of bodies quickly. I wasn’t counting though
I am curious to see people like Corridor Crew or someone similar review this scene. From seeing the scene once, the enemies were definitely CGI'd - but I'm always fascinated by how we're able to blend VFX and practical so seamlessly.
I loved the idea of Mr. Nobody. He tracks targets, and keeps his sights on them, but influences the bounty to make it higher. I imagine in the end, he manipulates bounties so much that he gets an even bigger paycheck by the end of his hunts. That’s a really cool concept. I’m sure this isn’t unique, but I still love it.
The idea of him being a helper to John but also willing to turn on John should it now benefit him puts both parties in an interesting dynamic, not too unique but it is an interesting chemistry regardless.
The apartment scene with the dragon breath rounds set the bar as the coolest scene in any action film imo. They went full video game mode with the panning camera and I think it's gonna be hard to top that whole scene tbh.
Just got back from the cinema and I agree, that scene is just so unique. Couldn't stop smiling throughout the scene (it's just fun, what else can I say)
One of my favorite moments was when John Wick saved Mr Nobody’s dog and when Caine used a pencil as a weapon, a clear callback to the previous films. And I didn’t expect Scott Adkins to be so hilarious in the movie. Overall, the movie was impeccable. Perfect casting, perfect choreography, perfect ending, the entire movie was just perfect.
lets give those ninja assassins at the Osaka Continental more recognition, damn i still remember Koji saying to his crew "Our Guests has arrived, let's give them hospitality" then proceeds to open refrigerators with those bow and arrows, Shuriken, Katana, and those 2 sumo wrestler guards damn you cant get more Japanese assassin group more than that, still give me chills
It was ridiculous (in a good way) and cool. This movie plays with absurd stereotypes, it's meant to be crazy and uninhibited, and it does it very well.
Rest In Peace Lance Reddick. It’s so sad that he passed away a week before the film came out. Regardless, I’m so hyped for the fourth film, and am gonna see it tomorrow in theaters
The dragon breath scene with the video game isometric angle (EDIT: top down angle) that was done all in one take was the highlight of the movie. I also really enjoyed the German Table villain, his personality was amazingly villainous and I did not expect him to be a serious threat against John.
that German Table villain was non other than Scott Adkins, he's a fenomenal fighter, loved his Undisputed movies, they don't have the greatest plots but man, they have amazing fight scenes
I loved the movie. And what made it so much better is that everyone else in the theater wasn’t scared to be vocal. So when something gruesome happened, like when John jumps out a window and falls down far, we all went “oooh!”. And that scene when he keeps falling down the stairs, we were laughing our asses off. Having a vocal audience makes watching a movie so much better
I like to think the stair scene was the directors poking fun at themselves over Chapter 2, where he and Common kept tumbling down stairs. The chose to quadruple the time he fell in this one and it was amazing.
There was definitely some comedic moments in the movie, like that stairs scene, or when Winston has a painfully long walk down the Marquis’s art gallery. The dog urinating on Chidi’s gave was unexpected but welcome.
As someone who just finished watching John Wick 4, I can easily say it is one of the best action thriller movies they have released ever, and just overall extremely well-directed and produced
Finished it at the cinemas rn and i recognized the japanese references and 1 anime reference 😂 which only i understood but nonetheless i love this series, the music, quality, acting, mystery, action is perfect
You might think that Charlie just got out of the shower, but that is in fact not the case. The movie was so good that even HE was overcome with moisture for this movie. Truly the highest of praise.
I love how they incorporated subtle techniques in his fighting style that account for him being blind. Like the fact he sometimes shoots in triangle patterns. In certain scenes, when someone is next to him or nearby he would shoot in a triangle shape, and one or two of the bullets would miss, but one or two were guaranteed hits because of the pattern. That kind of detail is awesome. They make it clear that he doesn't have some super power like Daredevil. He is just very skilled and very lucky.
Think I like about Donnie's scenes the most - how casual and effortless he makes it look. How elegantly he moves while outpacing seven guys at a time and making sure to act like a blind guy. The little split-second subtleties just peppered in between those insane explosive acrobatics... what a pleasure to watch !
Honestly, who expected John Wick 4 to be bad? The movies were incredible, and of course, this movie did it all. Props to Chad Stahelski and everyone who worked on this amazing series
I expected it to be fine. The third was good, but it was definitely a step down from the first 2. I expected this to follow the trend and be a little worse than 3.
I don't think I've expected it to be bad but after the third film which I think was lacking in comparison to the first two films. I sorta expected the new one to not reach those heights plus Keanu is getting really old but also then again Scott freaking Adkins is in the film so maybe it'll be just as good as the first two
There was definitely a fear that the John Wick franchise will go down like the fast and furious franchise, milking the shit out of it until it becomes ridiculous
I also LOVED that part when he's in the car going in circles shooting the guys in the middle. The Directing and Cinematography on this one were INSANE.
RIP Lance. *John Wick films- incredible. *Destiny voice acting- incredible. *HZD and HFW voice acting as Sylens- incredible. You will be incredibly missed.
man i just started replaying the horizon games recently. he did a flawless transition into voicework and the character is absolutely integral to the games. his presence is rly gonna be missed in any future entries.
My favorite part of this movie I think was the radio announcer at the night before the duel, specifically the transition into the French cover of Paint It, Black. So good, such a jam done in such an amazing way with the radio announcer and everything. Pure art.
After watching John Wick 3, part of me was thinking... They have to up the weapons for the fourth movie, semi automatic or automatic shotguns with frag-12 type rounds or dragon's breath. They read my mind and went for dragon's breath.
@@el-xg6pu Everything Everywhere All At Once came out around this time last year as well. And guess what? It was still the best movie of 2022. JW4 could easily be the best film of this year
what I loved about this one in particular is that some of the random nameless guys actually did really well. In the beginning one of them actually blocks multiple bullets and keeps up with john for a bit
Also worth mentioning that Marquis' men actually use the same fighting techniques and wore the same bulletproof suit John used. They were incredibly formiddable even for a rank of henchmen.
Yeah in particular the right hand of the marquis, the one that speaks spanish, was a beast. He's there from start to finish, and is on the same level as John Wick and Caine. He didn't deserve to be pissed on by that dog lol.
Jokes aside, Charlie’s John Wick impression at 3:29 was real spot on. I looked away for a sec and thought it cut to a Keanu clip. He himself could genuinely stand in for Keanu if he wasn’t a super beefed 7’9” specimen of a man
the craziest part was it had an end credit scene. I felt stupid waiting for the credits to end, and when there actually was a scene afterwards, I nearly screamed
Just watched today with my dad , we always stay till the end . You never know it’s always worth the 3-4 min and a nice convo about the movie you just watched.
Can you explain it? I quickly searched up if it had a post credit scene but all the sources that said "yes" were actually just referring to the ending, so I left thinking that there wasn't one😭
@@LeoD.J Caine goes to meet with his daughter with flowers but then the scene cuts to Akira walking in the crowd with a concealed knife towards him, the implication being that she will kill him to avenge her father before he manages to meet his daughter. Very inline with one of the main themes of the movies, consequences.
I missed the end credit scene, but I left the movie thinking that Akiras story must have a revenge arch if Caine lives. They definitely left some stuff for set up to next ones.
This was one of the best movies that I’ve ever seen. Absolutely thrilling from start to finish. My heart was about to explode during the roundabout scene. The tension was off the charts, the fights, the artistry of the fights and gunshots while trying to avoid speeding cars, while the amazing ambient music is played perfectly according to the fight. Then they followed that up with 3 more amazing sequences including the dragons breath scene. Absolute perfection of a movie.
This was the most fun I've had at the movies in years. A ballet of mayhem, choreographed to perfection. Mixing influences of Crime thriller, Manga, Hong Kong cinema, Western, Techno, Fantasy... I couldn't believe what I was seeing and almost cried tears of joy during the Arc de Triomphe and the incendiary bullet scenes.
I’m telling you!!! I don’t think the writers even realize how good of a movie they just created. Round of applause to everyone involved absolutely breathtaking
My wife and I recently tried out those dragons breath rounds. While they dont nearly hit as hard as the movie they def catch shit on fire. We almost burned down a mountain out where we live in utah lol. So cool to see them used
The overhead shot in that run down house toward the end was a thing of beauty. I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect action scene. This series is goat status
Literally came here in the comment section to comment that the video game style Charlie referred to was similar to Hotline Miami. That scene was excellent, literally thought to myself, “it’s like hotline miami”, and got chills right then and there in the theater.
The quick graceful blade jabs by Caine was stylish af And the best part is the movie didn’t bring donnie yen in for clout only and utilised him as Caine for the storyline well
this is why i still defend john wick as the best movie franchise ever. its quality, and each movie keeps upping things in a realistic way that doesnt feel contrived.
I think Chad Stahelski has officially earned his auteur status as a staple of action filmmaking. When we see action from movies from now on like the John Wick movies, it should be called a “Stahelski-esque” or “Stahelski style” action scene. I want him to keep making good action movies. Whether it’s spin offs or another project.
Gareth Evans too...watch Gangs of London it's hardcore...he has a movie with Tom Hardy coming out this year but I think if he made a movie with Scott Akins we could see something really special.
I love the villain of the movie, sure he wasn’t exactly scary physically, but his stature and his attitude really made him stand out in the cast I think
Was great seeing the Klaus scene, for anyone that isn't familiar "Klaus" is played by Sven Marqvuardt who is an absolute legend of counter-culture, he has run the door of the most legendary techno nightclub in history (Berghain) since inception. Those little details of having him escort John Wick in through the back door of a rave dungeon in Berlin (the Mecca of techno), that's what makes John Wick the franchise it is. Attention to detail.
honestly combining that with the multi-layered easter egg that was simply using genesis by justice during the staircase scene, im convinced the directors are just huge edm nerds
The Dragon's Breath shotgun scene was my favorite from the movie, especially when the iconic dubstep played in the background! I hoped you will talk about it! And at the end when Winston told the antagonist that wick didn't shoot yet, MAN that's also one of the best little plot twists!
Killa was easily the coolest villain in the movie and aside from the "Dragons Breath" scene his fight in the night club was fantastic. The music, the stunts, 🤌🏻 perfection
I knew that Scott Adkins was going to be in the movie for awhile, even when he showed up as Killa, I didn't even recognize it as him. It explains why for a big guy with asthma, Killa was a bad ass until John eventually kills him. Props to Adkins for getting a really unexpected character role since he's typecast in so many movies as this super fit badass martial artist/fighter.
@@CopenorMcbrokeleg I know. I loved the concept of him being this fat powerhouse bruiser type character, but also being agile enough to throw round house kicks. It was sooo good.
SPOILERS! in the end, where he had to get upstairs he looked at his watch and it was 5 minutes to 6 am, the time it took him to get upstairs with all the fight was exactly 5 mins in real life, when he got downstairs, it was 6.00 am and the sunrise was at 6.03 and to get upstairs took 3 mins in real life. This was timed perfectly
The Dragon’s Breath scene was meant to honor John Wick Hex the video games as well as a throwback with the Le Castle Vania songs from the first two movies playing. Best scene in the whole movie for sure.

I thought the music was a bit disjointed with the way the crowd was moving, was a bit out wack. There was some quite passive musical parts where the fuck crowd were moving like there was a 90's rave anthem going on. My only critique of that entire scene.
John Wick is one of those rare franchises where every installment gets better every time, even though sometimes it can get a little bit goofy. I can’t believe that a simple action movie has evolved to this artistic form of storytelling filled with unique set pieces.
For me the third movie slightly downgraded from the second one, it's not bad by all means, just didn't hit the same spot as the second movie but it's getting better in the fourth movie though
The camera angle with the dragons fire was insane it looked so nice Also the part where the dude gets an arrow through the leg and gets pegged to the wall and killed was awesome

The lighting, the cinematography, the set design, Incredible

Mr Nobody was such a cool character. He was literally the underdog in this movie and had a subtle but satisfying story arc that paralleled John's life.
Yeah, him and most of the supporting characters helped to cap off the series pretty well.
He's likely going to have his own arc in the Continental show if it ever comes to fruition, which would be satisfying in its own right, since he still never got his money.
Felt bad he didn’t win anything in the end
No he didn't. He had zero arc 🤣

When we see action from movies from now on like the John Wick movies, it should be called a “Stahelski-esque” or “Stahelski style” action scene. I want him to keep making good action movies. Whether it’s spin offs or another project.
Or chad-esque/ chad style
Gareth Evans too...watch Gangs of London it's hardcore...he has a movie with Tom Hardy coming out this year but I think if he made a movie with Scott Akins we could see something really special.

i think its already established as "Gun-Fu"
Equilibrium/Kate/Atomic Blonde/matrix etc. all fit that genre.
Charlie's "yeah" at 3:30 was just phenomenal.
i was looking thru comments to see if any one noticed, i literally thought he edited keanu's voice.
he is john wick
This isnt Charlie this is John wick smh
"I am Klaus!"
honestly combining that with the multi-layered easter egg that was simply using genesis by justice during the staircase scene, im convinced the directors are just huge edm nerds
@@molh394 this scene made me crack up😂
The Dragon's Breath shotgun scene was my favorite from the movie, especially when the iconic dubstep played in the background!
It was sooo good.
that scene got me so hyped. instantly thought about hotline miami when it started
Dude fucking cosplayed Bob from Tekken and started beating ass😂😂😂😂
Killa is so meh and forgettable 😂 trash take
SPOILERS!
in the end, where he had to get upstairs he looked at his watch and it was 5 minutes to 6 am, the time it took him to get upstairs with all the fight was exactly 5 mins in real life, when he got downstairs, it was 6.00 am and the sunrise was at 6.03 and to get upstairs took 3 mins in real life. This was timed perfectly
The Dragon’s Breath scene was meant to honor John Wick Hex the video games as well as a throwback with the Le Castle Vania songs from the first two movies playing. Best scene in the whole movie for sure.
and hotline miami
Actually, The Hong Kong Massacre.
That "FUCK OFF" from Donnie Yen was awesome.
The soundtrack itself was a masterpiece. You know it’s gonna be good when the first track is called “big wick energy”
The French (i think) version of paint it black was a surprise but a welcomed one
@@タイラー-p9x LMAO! My dad started drumming on his lap when the song started so much I was shaking in my seat and right before I asked him to stop the lyrics came in and my dad realized it wasn't the Rolling Stones and stopped the drumming.
The top down fight wasn't just in my top 10. It was hands down the best #1 action sequence I've ever seen.
The church scene from Kingsman is better imo
@@dominickwest7558 That was a great scene no doubt, but from both a cinematic and choreographic perspective, John Wick’s scene was way better.
_My favourite part of this movie is when the Japanese man speaks _*_English_*_ to his _*_Japanese_*_ daughter, but decided to speak _*_Japanese_*_ when he sees John Wick._
Jokes aside, this movie was absolutely incredible. Being huge fan of both the John Wick and Ip Man films, I was ecstatic when I saw Donnie Yen on screen for the first time, since I hadn't watched the trailers. That was the moment I realised that my fantasy of Ip Man vs. John Wick had actually become real.
When Caine pulled off Ip Man's signature flurry attack, I was practically jumping out of my seat. Solid Moist Meter rating, really couldn't agree more.
That nightclub scene was so bad ass and the fact they played all the old techno music they played in 1 and 2 god such a good callback
I thought the music was a bit disjointed with the way the crowd was moving, was a bit out wack. There was some quite passive musical parts where the fuck crowd were moving like there was a 90's rave anthem going on. My only critique of that entire scene.
The scene with the dragons breath gun was absolutely amazing. I was laughing and smiling the whole time
we must not forget that the music scoring for this series and particularly the john wick 4 is so amazing
3:30 genuinely the best John Wick impression I’ve heard
@Patrick39 Absolute cringe 😬, get a hobby matey
@Patrick39 i am too but, who asked?
The camera angle with the dragons fire was insane it looked so nice
Also the part where the dude gets an arrow through the leg and gets pegged to the wall and killed was awesome
major Hotline Miami vibes on that scene
@@skyrocks12 major HK massacre vibes
I know the exact scene you're talking about too lol
Fuck I loved that scene in the abandoned house. I got so excited when I saw them loading up Dragon's Breath and the pay off with that over head angle was absolutely perfect with the music.
Charlie is right, first one is always special but this one has to be the best. I can think of literally only two things that annoyed me and both are so minor and forgettable it's not worth saying.
Now u have to tell me
Charlie actually had the best John wick impression I've ever heard
It makes sense because he actually plays John wick in the movies.
@@israelsaadesnoozer377 Damn right
There’s something so fulfilling about seeing Charlie express his love for a movie
agreed. its fun to see a monotone, dry humoured guy who criticises people for a living (sort of), fanboy over an action movie
