Shaq is actually correct for 2 reasons.... 1 you burn more fuel driving the same speed below half. 2. You save more $ in your bank longer if you spend 80 on monday you will have less money in your acct than 20 each 2 days then its more than a week that you spent another 80. Plus you get to keep more $ in your acct.

Shaq also doesn't understand that many vehicles are not 100% proportional when displaying the amount of fuel that is left in the tank. Many cars will get more than 50% of the average mileage, and the fuel gauge will not actually show that 50% was used.

But, it’s still the same amount of gas you’re spending the same frame of time. Say you put in $80 for 8 days, vs $20 for 2 days. It’s the same amount however you wanna break it down. The problem with gas is the cost per gallon, not how expensive it is to fill up your car vs not filling up your car.

Rolling the windows down increases drag and slows the car down as well using more fuel so unless you're just gonna roll around in the heat with windows up and ac off it doesn't make much difference..

But the a/c doesn't "use" fuel to run and it doesn't "run off" the alternator power either.

This is applicable to those with tight budget that 80$ would ruin their cash flow for the day or even for that week. To avoid that massive one-day fueling that would hurt their budget for a day or even a week, Shaq's advice would be to break it down to 20$, although of course you need to go to gas stop more often.

Tip for those drivers that care about their car: The gasoline acts like a coolant for the electric fuel-pump motor, so when you run very low, this allows the pump to suck in air, which creates heat and can cause the fuel pump to wear prematurely and potentially fail. Always fill your gas when your gas tank is half full.
I think Shaqs point is you don't need to worry about getting to zero if you keep the car at 1/2 full or 3/4 full. You don't have to worry about running out of gas you will always have fuel in your vehicle. I think he needs to articulate that point

Shaq is actually correct for 2 reasons.... 1 you burn more fuel driving the same speed below half. 2. You save more $ in your bank longer if you spend 80 on monday you will have less money in your acct than 20 each 2 days then its more than a week that you spent another 80. Many cars will get more than 50% of the average mileage, and the fuel gauge will not actually show that 50% was used.

But, it’s still the same amount of gas you’re spending the same frame of time. Say you put in $80 for 8 days, vs $20 for 2 days. It’s the same amount however you wanna break it down. The problem with gas is the cost per gallon, not how expensive it is to fill up your car vs not filling up your car.

Having said that, the a/c running off the serpentine belt puts more of a load on the engine to turn the a/c compressor and in turn uses more fuel. But the a/c doesn't "use" fuel to run and it doesn't "run off" the alternator power either.

It's LESS psychologically and day-to-day financially painful to fill 20$ than letting it run dry and fuel 80$. This is applicable to those with tight budget that 80$ would ruin their cash flow for the day or even for that week. To avoid that massive one-day fueling that would hurt their budget for a day or even a week, Shaq's advice would be to break it down to 20$, although of course you need to go to gas stop more often.

Tip for those drivers that care about their car: The gasoline acts like a coolant for the electric fuel-pump motor, so when you run very low, this allows the pump to suck in air, which creates heat and can cause the fuel pump to wear prematurely and potentially fail. Always fill your gas when your gas tank is half full.

I think Shaqs point is you don't need to worry about getting to zero if you keep the car at 1/2 full or 3/4 full. You don't have to worry about running out of gas you will always have fuel in your vehicle.
