Hello everyone, I am from Switzerland and I love their songs. In the early 90s I saw and heard them in the Red Rocks Amphitheater Colorado. The weather, the atmosphere, the audience and the music are simply unforgettable. Hare Krishna!
America was Dan Peek, Dewey Bunnell, and Gerry Beckley...Peek left the band in the mid seventies. Beckley and Bunnell carried on as a duo afterwards. You should listen to the tune Sister Golden Hair...
It sounds like a song about a guy being at peace and serene from city life that can be uncaring, competitive and stressful... what a masterpiece 😍 I love the guitar work and vocals!!!
Despite my knowing this song in detail for decades that was an eye opening analysis you provided, and it shed much light into the prominent escapism theme, and then to realize that the escape was never a solution, actually turning out to be much worse. First wanting to get out of the rain (water) but eventually being surrounded by the sea (near drowning). Now I'm wondering what the metaphor of the horse represents 🐎. "Horse" was still a common street slang term for Heroin by it's users back when this song was written. This song has always been ubiquitous, and you'll both probobly recognize it immediately when you hear it again sometime out in your daily life.
this song is woven into great memories of the time when this beauty of a recording came on my 67 Camaro's radio as we drove from NY to California on a quest of adventure and partying back in 1972, it was a blast----4 months of freaking out with west coast crazies! this song is like always alive!
I enjoy views on music, especially views from a different perspective of culture. The you can't escape problems by running interpretation is nice. Beyond that, i see that you can't escape the weight of being a part of the larger human whole. Life hid within the desert. Life hid within the ocean. Life hides in human community, and life is problems for us. We fail ourselves in a way that is unnatural by comparison. Thanks. I enjoyed this reaction video.
_America_ did the soundtrack for the animation movie _The Last Unicorn._ If you don't know it, I recommend watching it, for it is such a great fairytale. I love the wide range of musical genres you two are covering, I love your Indian accents. I love Kirti's perpetual good mood, and Savio's "hand dancing" as well. Keep up the good work, all the best from Germany!
Amazing that you are doing this song. I bet nobody has reacted to this one. You are such a adventurous couple. You would be very interesting conversationalists. It is nice to see openness and rationality at the same time. Thanks for the brief escapes from the often upside down world that we seem to be living in. Love your work. Cheers
I like what you said, you can't run away from your problems. This shit me like a ton of bricks.. its very true tho, we need to face out problems straight through
Bruce Lee said we should be like water. Water is strong and flexible and it always finds a way around obstacles. It adjusts to its surroundings. If you fill a cup with it, it assumes the shape of the cup while also retaining all of its own unique characteristics.
Always loved this song . You could see Kirti liked this song by her lovely smile - I suggest playing lots of Beach Boys songs so we can see Kirti smile a whole lot more !
Well, that’s different ain’t it! This takes me back to fifth form at school when I first heard this played only on two chords...but it works...and still does for me
I'm watching you react to this song while driving down a deserted desert highway in the heat! So far I've seen two wild Burros a bunch of lizards scurrying across the ground butterflies and ground squirrels and I've been feeding my lunch as I travel down the road do lizards have my bananas for lunch
I subbed about a week ago, love how detailed and sincere your reactions are :) If you haven't checked it out yet, take a listen to America - Sister Golden Hair :)
You probably found more meaning in the song than what was intended, but it was very interesting. This group has quite a few really great songs and eventually worked with the Beatles' producer George Martin where they put out some of their best.
Love your channel! Now here comes the butt kissin. Would you please react to Grand Funk Railroad live in concert Los Angeles 1974 video. The song Heartbreaker is our favorite. My wife of 48 years and I were there when I was 24 and she was 22. She was tiny ( still is) and we watched the concert with her on my shoulders. I am so old now that I couldn't do that for a million bucks.
Some people thought it was a subliminal message for heroin he was so on heroin he wanderered in the desert and forgot the name of his horse and also some thought it was drug dealers meeting like they do in the desert making drug deals where police wouldn't be, horse one of the nicknames for heroin but those guesses are wrong because the singer when asked the singer in an interview How did you get a song title horse with no name? The singer said i was driving a jeep in the desert and a jeep is like a horse with no name and the interviewing host asked "why isn't it a horse"? The singer replied, "Because it a jeep"?. Answering telling the interviewer in a form of a question.
That was perhaps a tad obscure, heh. I just recalled that America performed a few songs from the movie adaptation of The Last Unicorn novel. (One of those rare? non-infantalized children's movies, btw.) Like so: th-cam.com/video/EtfP0FeEN0I/w-d-xo.html
“Horse” is a slang or street term for the drug heroin- At first the narrator is enjoying the feeling he gets from it, he can still see the beauty in life “plants and birds and rocks and things”... The “fly with a buzz” represents the first time he gets the “high” from heroin and he clearly enjoys it. But “after two days in the desert sun, his skin begins to turn red” as the fun fades and the addiction takes hold. The dry river bed represents where life once flowed freely but has now disappeared “dried up” as his senses became dulled due to the addiction. After 9 days he “lets the horse run free” (lets the drug run his life) the desert turns to sea as the addiction completely swallows his world. “In the desert you can remember your name, cause there ain’t no one for to give you no pain”, you run from your pain and those that cause it by hiding inside the drug. A song about drug addiction and its’ inevitable complete envelopment of the addict... Heavy subject matter in a catchy little tune indeed.
@@michaelcullen5308 ....I was being ironic, if you remember Heart of Gold got bumped from #1 by Horse with no name, that Neil complained sounded so much like 'H.O.G.'
Kids, Kids...This is a drug trip song, horse is heroin, that's why it has no name. the first hint that it's a drug song is "a fly with a buzz" (I was born in the fifties.)
I am 47 years old and can remember the first time I heard this song while riding in my Dad's car. I was maybe 7 or 8 years old! This song is timeless.
Same here. And my dad knew every word that's why it stuck with me
This song is like an out of body experience tinged with some deep seated sadness or nostalgia.
One of those 70’s songs perfect for laying under a shady tree, watching the clouds go by, gathering your thoughts.
One of my favorite 70s harmony groove bands. Enjoy your journey as you experience more America tunes.
America. Just fantastic. Was lucky enough to see them live in concert.
The harmonies in this song are absolutely breathtaking. Love this song!👌🏽🎼🎶
America was one of my favorite groups growing up, so sad there’s no music like this in today’s time. God bless 💜🙏🏻✝️🕊

Beautiful harmonies on this cool song through a desert journey . Thanks for the reaction !
One of the best sing-along songs EVER!!
The 1970s is the best decade for music ❤️🎶🇺🇲👍
Very, very well put.
The Spring of 1972-------Gary Beckley-------Dewey Bunnell, & Dan Peek, who left the group in '77. ----MJL, 76 y/o
This song just flows so nicely. It's a good song to listen to when stressed as it just relaxes you.
50 years of hits and tours…..need the America rabbit hole.

This song will never ever get old.
Love America and this song in particular. Good choice.
Love this song.

According to Dewey Bunnell the song was inspired by him remembering when he would go riding with his father in the desert near where they lived.
CLASSIC song

America had a lot of classic songs worth giving a listen. Love ur expansion of songs. From Metallica to Carpenters, Wow!
I always liked the "soft rock" groove. America, Seals and Crofts , Lightfoot. Beautiful tunes.
A wonderful reverie on a cold rainy day brought this wonderful song together 🏜️And the heat is on when the desert turns to sea🗻 Great reaction 🎏🎋
Sandman a must hear. Great guitar work.
love this song its relaxing calm song ,love both your reactions and smiles light up cool :)

Loved your take on the song! Love it and it appears to my intellectual side.
This song came out when I was 13.
Great song! Loved the analysis :)
Love you guys!!!
How many poetry in authentic music...

I want to know more of the story...... I could start a petition for more verses!... Lol..... 😃

"America" the band, all were so called "military brats" that were born to US servicemen stationed in Germany, they did capture the essence of America.
I like the beat🤗

So far I've seen two wild Burros a bunch of lizards scurrying across the ground butterflies and ground squirrels and I've been feeding my lunch as I travel down the road do lizards have my bananas for lunch
When I hear this song I'm always the one riding that horse in that desert. 😀
The band with the addition of George Martin made magic, there is no doubt.
You can do magic. Tin man.last unicorn...great songs..love to see reaction s you will love these songs
I subbed about a week ago, love how detailed and sincere your reactions are :)

I've never heard of America the country before...
Great song and band! Nice reaction! Would like a reaction to The Marshall Tucker Band - Fire on the mountain. Namaste
You probably found more meaning in the song than what was intended, but it was very interesting. This group has quite a few really great songs and eventually worked with the Beatles' producer George Martin where they put out some of their best.
Tin Man and Old man took are also wonderfull
'This is for All the Lonely People' is another fantastic song by America. Treat yourself and share with us if you'd like. ;^)

After going through a desert on a horse with no name, America found the Last Unicorn ... which also had no name, except when she was a woman.

America. Try the song, Don't cross the river.
Soulshine- Allman Brothers
whatever you do, don't ask why you wouldn't name a horse! :)

Are you sure about this?
They were very young and fresh when they did this album. the rest of the material on this album doesn't sound like heroin to me. Sad if it was.
They denied this. The song isn’t about drugs, it’s about their trip to the Southwest after being in rainy England.
bet you had to change your a/c filter after blowing the dust off this one.
thanks for a new insight. this song reminds me of walter white. he lost insight.
This song was written by Neil Young. America asked Neil to write a simple song for them and he wrote this piece with two chords.
It was written by band member Dewey Bunnell

Song gets mixed up with Neil Young.. Sounds just like em..
It's a sad song about addiction. Horse = heroin
